Apparently he still does this for a living. But it is unclear whether he operates in New York in the United States or in Niu-York in Ukraine.

It is thus unclear at this point whether the next wave of Russian mobiks will be made up entirely of little girls or not, but it's a possibility.

Legitimately could have been anybody. Could have been a regular mobik who got separated or deserted. Could have been some mil blogger or journo trying to get some hot scoop. Could have been a looter picking over the wrecks for valuables parts. I don't think there's anything sinister about him, he just got caught in the open and rolled the dice to see if not moving would allow him to survive.

He glows. I posted a bit on that when the vid dropped. Probably a forward spotter sent to infiltrate & give away Ukie positions, but got caught in no-man's land before he crossed into Ukie territory. Everything about him screams operator, glowing operator.

      >regular mobik
No. Nothing about him was normal or regular.

      >some mil blogger or journo trying to get some hot scoop
I'll allow that possibility, but it's a remote second. His kit was recon, in the middle of a hot battlefield. He knew what he was doing, and it wasn't reporting to some news organization. No pages or vids have ever surfaced to support blogger, and he wasn't dressed up like it was his first rodeo. He was up to absolutely no good in any way.

what? he was wearing nothing but a vest, I don't think he was even armed. Dude was given airsoft gear and sent to die.
Recon gear would be radio, binocs, a rifle, some supplies; all things he didn't have.

How the hell is that sinister to anyone? He looks like an old fogey way in over his head and out of his depth in a situation he really wished he wasn't part of.
In the vid he looked upset and afraid for his life, not someone who's determined and up to topple a government.

I think anon is assuming operator because the guy just looks pretty good in his kit.
A bit of style, shades and some personal grooming makes him stand out from regular mobiks.
His camo is a different pattern to regular mobiks too, I felt he was pulled from Syria/Africa for the SMO.

He had a radio, which is definitely not something regular mobiks have.
That's the only thing about him that makes me think he might be some kind of operator.
But I'd lean more towards some kind of officer gone forward to play the hero and caught in a bad spot. Like a company commander or something with a bit of style. Officers should cultivate a bit of style in some direction, it makes their troops like them more.

This guy isn't a "regular mobik." He's clean & groomed like he's going to a prom, no dirt even on his boots or black vest. No ammo or grenades, no regular mobik is issued a radio. He's really out of place.

      Also:
      >chilling next to wreckage
He's clearly trying to look inconspicuous, considering that a drone is hovering over him. He's "playing dead", as they say. Not just lounging around.

Both Bond and Bourne movies have convinced us that Russian operators are in fact pretty effective. If deranged.

In another thread, someone suggested that modern RUF took Enemy at the Gates seriously and memed the executioners instead of crowd control)-style barrier troops into reality and now I'm a little stoned and wondering how funny it would be if that was meant to happen by Pentagon/CIA/Hollywood collaboration.

But yes, he's clearly done something.
I assumed it was some variety of Kung Fu but MMA etc probably make more sense for the region.

I'm referencing the old "I trane ufc" meme, I started following the sport during the Affliction/Tapout era which was riddled with 2000s cringe from wannabe tough guys.
Yeah the region has a ton of people doing combat sambo. The boxing, Judo and wrestling programs from the Soviet Union left a mark, and now MMA brought Sambo to relevancy as most boxers and Judokas aren't interested in MMA where their styles can be hard-countered, but most kickboxers and Muay Thai practitioners can't catch up to a Sambist's ground game.

                >I'm referencing the old "I trane ufc" meme
                Oh, never saw it.
I thought it was weird to call it UFC instead of MMA but if I called out every school/mcdojo etc that sounded funny...

The thing I learned doing Kung Fu and even taking a class at the Shaolin Temple and another at Wudan Mountain, is that literally everything, if trained hard enough and it incorporates a bit of sparring, will eventually converge on to something that more or less works in most situations.

I've seen a Shaolin monk demolish a random tourist frickboi in the blink of an eye because the tourist thought it would be funny to challenge a monk. And Shaolin is the most cosmetic, artistic style of anything short of fricking wushu. But frickboi was on the ground and taking kicks to the head in less time than I could process what had just happened.

            >I thought this is what the Hong Kong protests would be like.
There was plenty of kino in those but the PAP were waiting just over the border to deploy if given the slightest excuse and China would have just come down twice as hard.
There more than a few /k/ommando types making bombs and zip guns but they got busted pretty quickly and other protestors stayed away from them to avoid being painted as terrorists.

Despite, actually because of, the Tiananmen Square massacre, the Chinese government doesn't like to actually kill. They would if shot at but they're much more gentle than US cops at say the '68 DNC or Seattle WTO protests were.
This is because despite external appearances, the '89 response caused significant internal strife and led to purges and near coups. Some/many (but not all) elements of the PLA never forgave the party for making them hated oppressors of the people instead of heroic liberators like they used to be.

The PAP are part of the answer to this problem, the technocratic monitoring/b&ing/social credit stuff is another part of it. Secret police and party v&s are another.
The PAP train very hard at less-lethal responses to protests and relatively gentle mass arrests that don't leave body counts. Combined with invisible methods of control like black lists and house arrest, the party no longer needs to exterminate opponents, it can marginalise and silence them instead.

They're without doubt the most humane government that has ever existed in China. They just need to be degraded and somehow replaced with something that can work with the rest of the world now.

I was in HK for the first set of protests and that was pretty kino with what were effectively communes set up in streets in front of government buildings, students taking shifts to occupy barricades while others went to class or studied, first-aid stations, kitchens, hygiene facilities...
            It was all pretty cool.

I hope HK gets better one day but I'm not optimistic.
