Most gains made during this war were made during the first few days, Russia hasn't made any big moves since then, they acknowledged their problems and retreated from the areas they couldn't hold, fortified their positions and grinded the enemy, its been like this for a year, holding ground while the problems were fixed and the mobilized were trained, Surovikin knows what he's doing and this war will end this years, maybe before the middle still.

If Russians tried it their armored columns would get BTFO. They can't pull a desert storm with their already depleted frontline units and air force, especially when the Ukrainians actually have advanced missiles and AA systems now.

They've been sending them there to train because they don't have the capacity to train all their mobiks at once. Send them there, Belarus training fields, make Ukraine nervous and force them to(ideally) draw units off the line to cover the border just in case. Send back when done.

No and no. They are there for different reasons. Most likely training and housing them.

This. They are trying to emulate what Ukraine is doing with NATO training. Training and housing 300.000 extra troops somewhere close to the action is complicated, and every relief helps. Also, Belorussians can teach basic soldiering stuff just as fine. It’s not like moving on line and shooting an AK74 works

So Russia invaded from Belarus when Ukraine's military was in disarray, and they still got stuck for weeks in a huge convoy and eventually had to turn around and go home. If they try now that Ukraine has long range precision artillery the road north is gonna be paved with Russian bones like a medieval ossuary.

My advice is the same as before.

Target Russian Logistics without mercy and kill their officers. Then destroy their artillery and their armor.

Force them into a mass of leaderless infantry running low on ammo, fuel, and food.

Attack the Vatnik weak points without fricking mercy or hesitation, Ukraine. Turn their sheer mass against them. Troops without logistics burn through things very, very fast.

The axis past Chernihiv also posed major challenges as Ukrainian forces were caught between their positions, while the orders to bypass resistance left many Ukrainian units cut off, behind Russian lines.
            >...
            >Even with [Ukranian] efforts, the Russians achieved a 12:1 force ratio advantage on the Gomel axis. Similarly, around Chernihiv, the 1st Tank Brigade found itself encircled and lacking infantry support, necessarily drawing on
territorial defence units and reservists to adopt a position of all-round defence.
            >In Donbas, the Russian operations to fix the bulk of the UAF proved almost entirely successful. Although the AFRF made little progress against the defensive positions along the line of contact, it proved impossible for Ukrainian troops to be redeployed from this theatre.
            >From the above, it is important to recognise that the Russians achieved surprise and succeeded in bringing about highly favourable force ratios on their main axes. On the second day of the conflict, there was considerable anxiety in the UAF as to the ability to halt the advance from Gomel. ... [Russian] troops were largely moving in administrative formations. They lacked a clear understanding of where they were. Whole towns did not exist when the maps they were using were made. They had not anticipated heavy fighting, nor did they have established communications to report the situation or to receive updated instructions. Ukrainian forces found themselves bypassed and often confronted with columns of unprepared Russian troops. ... [The] contrast between expectations and reality induced panic and caused the abandonment of equipment that was widely observed on social media.

Russians were really close but the troops had 0 morale or understanding of what they were meant to do.

Also the Ukrainians did make some gallant stands, most likely via the 1st Tank Brigade.

Yup. Here's the report I'm quoting btw
                https://rusi.org/explore-our-research/publications/special-resources/preliminary-lessons-conventional-warfighting-russias-invasion-ukraine-february-july-2022
                It has some funny takeaways
                On deception (some excerpts):
                >Deception has succeeded against Russian forces at all echelons and across all three service branches. At the tactical level, the UAF have systematically employed false signals traffic and decoys of prestige systems to misdirect Russian fires. This has almost always succeeded, leading to a vast expenditure of munitions against non-existent targets and a corresponding vulnerability for Russian fires in revealing their positions.
                >In much NATO discussion of these issues subtle changes in force posture, weapons fits on aircraft, patterns of behaviour and so on are used to try to message varying levels of readiness, preparedness and will. Many of these actions are premised on the assumption that they will be observed by the adversary. ... However, when Ukrainian forces struck the cruiser Moskva in the Black Sea with Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles on 13 April 2022 there was no indication that its radar was operating. This was supposed to be the central ISTAR node for the air defence of the Black Sea Fleet, yet despite being in an active warzone, the ship’s primary sensors were not on. Nor was this an isolated incident.
                >From a deterrence point of view – or for the purposes of shaping decision-making – this is concerning because it suggests that most of the nuance in messaging may be lost. Therefore, while the Russian forces may be vulnerable to deception, the message must be clearly telegraphed. In the context of deterrence, one of the biggest challenges may be preventing the Russians from deceiving themselves.

                >In the context of deterrence, one of the biggest challenges may be preventing the Russians from deceiving themselves.
kek, good luck with that, Russia's been in a collective hysterical hallucination since the mongol rape trauma. Every day they convince themselves that (a) everything is just peachy (b) they have the right to exist. Both of which are lies.

Was the Ukie military in disarray though? They expected this invasion for a few weeks before it happened, it's not like they were entirely unprepared. I mean, yeah, equipment and morale wise they are stronger now, but why would they have been in disarray back then?

    troops is nothing.

if they were planning ANYTHING they would be amassing armor, equipment, munitions, medical facilities, etc. all on the Ukrainian border.

If our DoD isn't seeing signs of this happening, I don't think it ever will happen. Recall that it took over a year of preparation just for the initial invasion into Ukraine, they were massing equipment on the border, building bases, etc. for almost a year and we saw it happening, knew it was happening, told the Ukrainians about it and they refused to believe an actual invasion was coming and that it was just intimidation for their "military exercises."
