i just started hunting this last year.
i fricking dusted two squirrels in my driveway an hour apart and both times I felt super shitty for a little bit. only because I was worried there might be baby squirrels in the tree.
So far those and a house cat are my only kills since taking up hunting.
House cat got railed by a truck on a dirt road near a spot I was scouting coyotes. truck didnt stop, I happened upon the cat and it's spine was broken and it was acting like it had severe brain damage, was mewing all fricked up and trying to crawl around so I put it down.
That was a month ago and I still feel awful for having to do that.
Regardless, you did the cat a service. Better you than a stray dog or coyote start chewing on it while it's still alive because that was the next natural step
I consider myself sometimes lucky that my cat died a quick death while going across a highway. I still would not wish the fate on any creature. The shit a moving chunk of steel does to a small animal is not a pleasant sight. I still have nightmares for how I found my buddy...
Rest easy, Mango. Also rest easy unknown street cat.
Sometimes when discussing random topics with people hunting comes up. I don't have any moral objections and next year I want to get a deer tag because of the memories of hunting with my dad. However, the way some of these people talk about hunting is kind of unnerving to me. What they'll do a lot of the time is wander way out into the boonies to bag a ton of coyotes or jackrabbits just for the hell of it. They're miles away from any farmland and aren't protecting anything, but rather just killing for the hell of it. That just doesn't sit right with me.
I remember a few months back seeing a feral kitten on the side of the road with half its skull gone. Made me feel like shit because I've seen that exact cat and its siblings plenty of times in my neighborhood. I don't see its siblings around too often anymore, but often enough to know they're still okay. I'm not sure what it is about random feral cats that made me care so much about that in particular.
Sometimes. I cried like a baby when I killed my first deer. I remind myself it's natural and it's a good way to go compared to being eaten alive or illness.
I'm vegan and I don't own any guns and have no interest in ever going hunting or shooting a gun. Hope that Ukraine genocides every Russian though and yes I am trans

I only felt shitty about it when I killed my first bird with a BB gun when I was like 10. Apart from that, I'm only concerned with the suffering of the animal, so the sooner it is actually dead the better. It's going to be eaten eventually, either by me, my family, or other animals. Bonus if the animal was causing property damage and I can still make use of its hide or meat.
I am glad that we don't have a wild hog population in Iowa, but it seems really fun. Deer hunting with my Uncles is really fun so hog hunting would be fricking amazing.
Is that a Gorka top? Looks like mine but is a full button-up. I usually hunt wearing my gorka bottoms with boots and a sweatshirt with layers if needed.
I’ve never felt bad shooting a deer or wild dogs, and frankly I enjoyed wasting wild dogs running deer to death, but I’d never hunt rabbits or birds. They just seem so fragile and pitiful that killing one seems demented unless you’re straight up starving in the woods. I don’t fault people for doing it but it’s just not for me.
Growing up on a farm has given me a light hatred for rabbits, so I keep an eye out during rabbit season. Most of the bird seasons are short as frick here so I don't even bother. If anything is a year around season like coyote and raccoon I just wait until the moms kick the babies out because I at least want to give them a chance.
I totally get that, I spent summers working my grandpa’s farm so I’ve seen what they’re capable of. It’s honestly for that same reason that I have a hatred of deer. I don’t know why birds and rabbits are the line I’ve decided I can’t cross but I guess I’ve gotta have one somewhere.
I'm aware that as a meat eater I'm inherently evil. It's part of my biology and nothing will change that. Even if I go vegan nothing will change, I'm still biologically a meat eater.
If aliens find us they'll probably exterminatus us immediately for being vile meat eaters.
As far as parasites go, maybe. Just cook your food. CJD is way overblown and you're far more likely to get a prion disease from eating the wrong parts of people.

Slightly. Frankly, I prefer butchering. You have full knowledge of where they've been and what they eat. Also their death is more assured to be swift, if you do it right. The only guilt I've ever had is butchering the mama, and not the baby, and vice versa. The moms get sad without the baby, and call out for it. Can't help but feel a bit, for them. Once butchered all but one of the babies, so he was left alone, and he grew up bitter and mean. From now on, the whole family gets butchered at the same time. But outside that, nah.
I never hunted and I never will. I do not own guns (being in a noguns eu country), but I have extensive guns experience (being a military reservist).
Killing animals, unless you really need it to survive, is stupid. And frick you.
It might seem that way since Eurotards hunted their wildlife (including trees) to near fricking extinction, but in the US overpopulation is a huge problem among a number of animals.
North America model of conservation gay boy. Hunters and anglers are working class folks and paying for habitat conservation, and species recovery.
You eurotards view hunting as a game for the elite because landowners own the wildlife which is fricking stupid.
You have no ground to stand on against hunters who eat what they kill, if you eat meat yourself. Also, plenty of animals are killed during agriculture too, and it takes lots of land that could be a habitat for animals instead. Unfortunately, there really isn’t any escape from harming animals.
>t has never hunted
I unironically might start hunting because I consider it generally more ethical than farming. I don’t eat chicken anymore because of the conditions they are raised in. Beef seems a bit better since lots of Canadian beef is raised here in Canada and they generally seem to get to range and milk about in fields. I am kinda considering Pescetarianism as well (I don’t feel bad about eating something like a sea cucumber, which doesn’t even have a brain). I also have thought about becoming one of those nasty people who eats roadkill.
ALL humans are killing animals to survive, at all times. Even vegans. Even you. Did you know a lot of farmers actually pay dudes to sit around their fields with shotguns and blow birds out of the sky all day to protect their crops? So even if youre a vegan, animals are dying to feed you. Its an inescapable fact of life. Humans are not separate from the food chain, thats literally not possible.
never had any but I hear it's pretty awful if you don't yet a younger sow real tough with weird flavors and you need to treat the meat of males so it doesn't taste like piss
No.
Also it’s my opening day & I have nowhere to go. Everywhere accessible is fricking private land. Last time I enter for this area. Probably just gonna go to IHOP in my gear and order a Belgian waffle
Neighbors asked me to kill a pig one time. I never killed anything in my life. Didn't want the pig to suffer so I grabbed my most powerful gun I had. Showed up to the pig farm it stunk like shit. Farmer asks me what I brought to do the deed. I say "ptr91" he says "what is that? 9mm?" I say "no it's 308" he goes "got damn!" Shot the pig. I can still see it play out in slow motion in my mind the blast pushed all the hair away in a circular pattern little tiny 7.62 mm hole appears, for a split second I can see clear through it. Pig slams against the ground then the nervous system took over. The pig was trying to run away as fast as it could but it's entire brain was bullet soup so it just thrashed around and spewed blood everywhere. Eventually the pig stopped moving and we began inspecting the body. Entire cranium is empty all the teeth are loose enough to pull out by hand. Lower jaw is no longer recognizable. In the future I will use a 22 or something. Tried to be merciful but ended up traumatizing everyone present. Pig ribs were good neighbors were some kind of Islanders and I guess they wanted the head intact but didn't tell me that. All in all pretty weird experience, clothes smelled like a pig pen for like a month even after washing.
Sometimes I forget that growing up on a farm desensitized me from the usual butchering of any farm animal. The pig was honestly dead as soon as the round entered the brain, any movement beyond that was nerves. 308 is serious overkill for butchering, a .22lr will do the job just fine but at least you can take solace in it being a guaranteed kill.
I'd love to go hunting and it would probably be a lot of fun, but I know I'd be bothered by killing an animal. Hell, I still remember some of the fish I caught and killed back in the 90s, jamming my knife through their head so they would die quickly and not flop around and suffer in my boat.
From a rational perspective, I don't really have anything against hunting, but I'm just not made for it. I mean, if I had to hunt in a survival situation, I would have no problem doing it, but killing something for sport, even if I eat it, just bothers me for some reason. It's an innate thing, not a learned thing.
As long as I can remember my family has killed any animal as long as it was put to good use. I learned to clean a fish when I was around 8. I watched the older members of the family clean deer and my mom was the one who really taught me how to get every bit of meat from one. It has kinda become a thing to cook the heart and eat it as we clean the bones. It's definitely something I want to keep going as my older cousins' kids grow up and once I have kids.
When I said it was an innate thing and not a learned thing, I didn't meant hat as a general statement. I meant it for me. I was fishing and gutting fish as a young kid, though I never hunted. Killing stuff never sat right with me though, so I stopped. Even fish, despite the fact that I liked fishing. At least I never became a vegetarian.
At this point, I don't even kill insects unless I have to. Hell, I have a spider living downstairs. In fact, I know the thing so well that I'm certain I know where it is right now, considering it's made a home down there.
I wasn't trying to demean you in any way, as it never personally sat right with you I can fully understand it. I don't want to kill anything unless it is necessary or I can make use of it. I like to keep insects around if they are not harmful towards me, frick them mosquitos.
>I wasn't trying to demean you in any way
Well, I wasn't implying that.
My point is basically this: I don't have any moral opposition to hunting, and would do it myself if it was a matter of survival. However, I have a lot of empathy for animals, beyond what is reasonable for a man, and would feel bad about killing them for whatever reason.
Hell, a few weeks ago, I found a dead cat in an old barn I've been fixing up. The thing got trapped between a support beam and a plank and died there probably 50 years ago. I still felt bad for the poor thing, having been stuck there and forgotten for so long, and put a good deal of effort into getting it out in one piece and burying it nearby. No one else I knew gave a shit about some dried up husk of a long dead cat, but I still felt the need to get it out in one piece and bury it.
I would much live as a wild animal to be quickly put down than a human rather than being born as livestock which is like the holocaust but worse and real
My step dad had dozens of chickens and when he wanted some chicken he would walk right into their large pen with a .22 and just shoot one in the head from a few yards away as they all ran around panicking. He would dress it then throw the carcass back over the fence and all the chickens would eat it clean.
I no longer felt bad shooting grouse I kick up after watching that. Shit was like a pen of hell. I pray chickens don't have more intelligence than we say they do.
Isn't that a dumb way to kill them? I mean, just chop their head off, and do it somewhere where it doesn't stress out the rest of the frickers.
It's also less of a mess, and doesn't punch a hole through the meat and organs.
You would still need to go into the pen and chase one around until you could scoop it. Then you would have to leave the pen with it and set it between the nails and chop the head off. As dumb as it sounds shooting one in the head with a .22 and walking out with it is the most efficient way. Better than his original plan of walking in with a sharp mechety and lopping off the head; didn't work a single time.
I figured they'd be domesticated to the point where you could just pick them up.

Meat birds don't live long enough to be gentled into a flock. You can do that to old hens that are past their production years or if they become mean broody b***hes.

Just use a traffic cone, grab one, pop it in, slit its throat. You don't need to decapitate it, and you want to bleed it anyway. It doesn't stress them out too much because they're moronic and can't figure out what's happening.
That's a whole process and an ordeal that is really only worth it if you're culling or harvesting a large chunk of your flock. I also don't know anyone who bleeds a chicken. It's almost unheard of around here. The method you're describing most people just use a pair of pruning shears.

I grew up raising them to the point you can pick them up and cut the heads off to bleed them out. I deeply remember my parents gathering with a bunch of friends to help clean birds the entire weekend. Probably the best weekends I had with my childhood friends besides going camping.
Not all livestock is treated like shit.
Where I live, there's a shitload of hills and mountains, to the point where very little land can actually be farmed. However, that land can be used for livestock, so the local sheep, goats and cattle can graze in what is essentially nature, and spend most of their lives outside. Hell, even some of the pigs get in on the action, though they mostly prefer staying around their little pens.
Human society has evolved past the need for both hunting in the wild and killing animals for livestock. We can have all our nutritional needs met and still eat a varied and good tasting diet without animal products in the equation.
Deer really do need to be hunted to prevent overpopulation. They will kick the shit out of your pets and spread diseases to them and your livestock, and they will literally wait for you to get close before jumping out in front of you. They're cute, majestic, and should be preserved, but they repopulate quick and need to be regulated.
A bit, killed a quail the other day, it wasn't very big and I was just out plinking, but in between reloads it just landed in a rock just by my shooting line. It was probably only one of the few male quails around in that particular valley. Still brought it home and made a fine dinner.
This is what people don't understand. Even the worst hunters still more humanly harvest game than the best wild predators. There is no dying of old age in the animal kingdom. You get old or weak and then you get eaten alive from the ass up. It can take hours for a deer to finally die while being eaten by coyotes.

As a grizzly bear who hunts humanely, I find these stereotypes deeply offensive.

My first time hunting was popping sparrows and starlings. I thought I would be ready for it because I was "not some kid" ... I cried like a b***h for an hour after killing a sparrow.
I have hunted plenty of times since then, but the memory of me crying about killing a bird still sits in the back of my mind. At the end of the day, these are still living and breathing creatures. It's one of the reasons I do not "hunt for sport" and need to justify the hunt for myself via the use of something the animal provided.
It could be the meat, the hide/pelt, feathers for fly fishing, but I still prefer a reason for why I hunt.
No. If you think about it, you're giving the animal a nicer death than it would have gotten otherwise. Animals don't have peaceful painless death. Thats a luxury only afforded to some lucky humans. But most animals either die in the mouth of another animal, or they get so old they cant feed themselves any more and starve to death. Hunting is actually pretty humane.
If it's a pest, no remorse. Otherwise I try to hunt animals that i can actually make use of, mainly if they got good meat. I'm thinking of getting into tanning deer hide and composting some of the organs. It just feels wrong to kill something for no reason, I feel like there's some sort of duty to make the animal's death not completely in vain.
I went hunting with my dad as an assistant, but I've never went myself. Once I was old enough to hunt on my own, I was making enough money that I could buy my own meat. I knew there were a lot of people over hunting in my area and I didn't want to add to that even if it was legitimate hunting.
Now nearly ten years later I'm going to be a father, and a caveman part of my brain woke up and demanded I club a mammoth and bring it back to the cave. Did anyone else experience this?
I used to hunt sparrows with an airgun, eat them with some eggs. But they were so small and their meat so scarce I kinda felt bad for them. But they were ruining my grandma's cherries and they had to go.
I don’t know if I should ask this here.
But what should I do/who should I join if I want to contribute to wildlife conservation? I can only do it part time because of a full time job.
Currently posted up right now with my crossbow. I don’t enjoy killing, but it feeds me for cheap keeps the deer from ruining the pastures we use for cattle.
I don't hunt myself, but I would feel bad 'trophy hunting'... If I go hunting, It would be to eat / consume / use the animal, not just to shoot something
Had a rat come around my mom's house once. She was scared and called me, so of course I went there to kill it. Now, I'm a citygay, never done any kind of animal killing before. I got there and reluctanly hit it with a broom. Little fella started having seizures and started to scream so fricking loud like holy shit, hit it again and brain matter splattered all over but he still didn't die. Finally died after the third hit.
I'ts funny to me, because I almost went to jail once for almost killing a guy, and didn't feel bad about it, but a small fricking rat messed up my sleep for a few days. Kek I'm probaly autistic.
I don't hunt deer or squirrels because I like them but exterminating piggers is a service
only when they cry before i kill them
only when I have to clean them myself
Same, I usually just shoot em and leave em
Unless your hunting some kind of invasive species hunting just for the thrill of killing something and not eating it is very gay
I only hunt the elusive north american mountain gorilla, they are usually covered in shit and ticks
Why? Shooting something because you like how it tastes is no different than shooting something because you like how it feels.
why? it feels great killing things

No its not, not at all. Humans build up more toxins than deer because we eat meat. Its basic food chain man

Deer live a better life than my factory farmed meat so no.
Nope
Why would someone feed it uncooked sausages?
Isn't anon supposed to be to be aiming a little bit more to the right?
>bu-but im firing .300 win mag
I never hunted and I never will. I do not own guns (being in a noguns eu country), but I have extensive guns experience (being a military reservist).
Killing animals, unless you really need it to survive, is stupid. And frick you.
There are other legitimate reasons for killing wild animals besides food. Don't be so closed minded.
It might seem that way since Eurotards hunted their wildlife (including trees) to near fricking extinction, but in the US overpopulation is a huge problem among a number of animals.
Frick you.
North America model of conservation gay boy. Hunters and anglers are working class folks and paying for habitat conservation, and species recovery.
You eurotards view hunting as a game for the elite because landowners own the wildlife which is fricking stupid.
>Killing animals, unless you really need it to survive, is stupid. And frick you.
frick you moron
do you eat meat?
Why did mill get autocorrected to milk?
ALL humans are killing animals to survive, at all times. Even vegans. Even you. Did you know a lot of farmers actually pay dudes to sit around their fields with shotguns and blow birds out of the sky all day to protect their crops? So even if youre a vegan, animals are dying to feed you. Its an inescapable fact of life. Humans are not separate from the food chain, thats literally not possible.
never had any but I hear it's pretty awful if you don't yet a younger sow real tough with weird flavors and you need to treat the meat of males so it doesn't taste like piss
what does this have to do with the weapons used while hunting? why are you sliding?
Jfc. What a gory mess. Kek. Well, at least you learned a lesson.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Killing any animal, especial hogs, isn't an exact science and takes a lot of practice.
Hey man, study the skull or anatomy of what you want to kill.
Head shot to wild boat with 30-06 was my last hunt.
22lr is good to finish at close range or for domestic.
Fricking hate boats. Loud pieces of shit disrupting my quiet time by the lake. Good on you for taking one out.
Wild boats are the worst, they just fricking come out of nowhere too
I want to go on one of those wild pig boar shooting spree helicopter / dune buggy rides, if only to feel what it was like in nam.
Killing for any reason other than survival is evil, subhuman behavior.
We are constantly in a state of survival, anon. Just because you don't hold the knife doesn't mean you are not still surviving to the next day.
>t. gets others to kill for him so he thinks he's morally absolved
Yeah I’ve heard that about places like Australia and it seems pretty ideal.
Human society has evolved past the need for both hunting in the wild and killing animals for livestock. We can have all our nutritional needs met and still eat a varied and good tasting diet without animal products in the equation.
i hate the antichrist
Only when I'm not hunting a human.
A little, but then I remind myself that whatever I'm doing to the critter is much more humane than getting ripped apart while alive.
Don't you have some salmon to catch or berries to eat? Get out of here.
Frick you, Goldilocks.
Sorry did I wake you from your 3 month constipation nap? Oh and by the way. Kodiak bears are the better bear.
frick now i need to find that long ass ASMR video of some wolf girl that hunted a kodiak bear for (you)
Yes. I try to avoid killing my fellow mammals
only if I miss or especially if I gut shot
I always cry after I cum.
Just use a traffic cone, grab one, pop it in, slit its throat. You don't need to decapitate it, and you want to bleed it anyway. It doesn't stress them out too much because they're moronic and can't figure out what's happening.
Venison>beef
It just feels wrong to kill something for no reason, I feel like there's some sort of duty to make the animal's death not completely in vain.
no
bears hunt
lions hunt
wolves hunt
eagles hunt
snakes hunt
predators are necessary
I went hunting with my dad as an assistant, but I've never went myself. Once I was old enough to hunt on my own, I was making enough money that I could buy my own meat. I knew there were a lot of people over hunting in my area and I didn't want to add to that even if it was legitimate hunting.
Now nearly ten years later I'm going to be a father, and a caveman part of my brain woke up and demanded I club a mammoth and bring it back to the cave. Did anyone else experience this?
I feel bad when I miss and have to track the bleeding fricker for hours only to find out that I fricked a portion of the meat up.
If moose was not meant to be hunted it would not be evolved so deliciously.
I feel bad that I can't hunt.
I used to hunt sparrows with an airgun, eat them with some eggs. But they were so small and their meat so scarce I kinda felt bad for them. But they were ruining my grandma's cherries and they had to go.
Hunting good
I feel bad if I miss the heart
Lmao no. If they didn't want to be shot they shouldn't taste so good.
sex
I only shoot paper. I am. Killing enough chicken & shit by eating ready food supply from supermarket.
If you kill harmless animals for enjoyment you should reevaluate your life.
Why not use a humane weapon then?
Because gun season for antlerless deer doesn’t happen until November.
Depends of the animal
I don't hunt myself, but I would feel bad 'trophy hunting'... If I go hunting, It would be to eat / consume / use the animal, not just to shoot something
A bit, yeah, I'm not heartless. But it's better to be shot and die immediately than be eaten alive.
No. I only feel bad if the animal doesn't die in a single shot.
Do you feel bad eating bacon from the store dumb ass
Nah, I feel excited.
Stick to invasive species, that way you are protecting the natural habitat.
No. Have you seen how prey animals usually die? A gunshot is heavenly mercy.
