Everyone killed Kennedy (he was struck by thirty-nine bullets). The Soviets, the CIA, the DIA, the Cubans, Lyndon Johnson, the US Army, Jackie Kennedy (for the life insurance money) Robert Kennedy (there can only be one), JFK himself (suicide, not a negligent discharge), and dozens of others. The crazy thing is none of the assassins knew the others were there. The plots coincided by sheer chance.

Read up on how badly the Russians were shitting their pants and Castro's terrible acting job once he heard of JFK's assassination. LHO was a Soviet asset who they radicalized to do the assassination only to later try and talk him out of it for reason I can't remember, which obviously didn't work, and then went full disinformation/firehose of falsehoods to try and deflect blame from themselves. The memoirs of Ion Mihai Pacepa has a whole section devoted to it from the Soviet perspective, pretty funny to read.

The real interesting shit is Jack Ruby snuffing him out. I always thought that was a method of covering up Oswald's involvement with the communists to keep the Cold War from escalating, it not like Oswald had been on their radar before. After reading Pacepa's book and other stuff about the JFK assassination the feeling I get is that both the US and the communists covered it up because it wasn't benefit to anybody to have a probable USSR intel asset assassinating a US president in the middle of the Cold War.

Real weird shit is the RFK assassination. Now that one I never really found a proper explanation for it other than the one about RFK giving US support for Israel in the 1967 war. Which makes sense but you have to not take into consideration several things about the assassination.

The Pope was a targed of the Warsaw Pact intel services because of his campaign in support of Solidarity in Poland and being explicitly against communism, purging marxism from the Catholic Church clergy. The guy who pulled the trigger had been an Op Gladio asset in Turkey but he had turned coats and was now working for the other side. This is all straight from his mouth, by the way.

Isn't the entire north of Ukraine either mined or guarded? Also isn't that the swampiest and shittiest terrain to invade in Ukraine?

      Anonymous

Yes. Largest wetland in Europe. Tons of dense forest. Tons of rivers and streams that flood the area. Very few roads.

      Anonymous

Yup. Not only is the terrain practically impassible but the parts that are somewhat passable have been mined and fortified and artillery-dialed-in by the Ukrainians for months now. Also it's glowing so hard (and not just because of the Chernobyl Zone in the east) they would see you coming hours ahead of time. Only a complete fricking moron would try to attack from there. So naturally, I expect the Russians to go through with it.

        Anonymous

Honestly they'd probably have better luck attacking with mobilized light infantry than they would with a mechanized or armored unit. The roads up there are so narrow and the forests so thick that vehicles have to travel in column formation in a lot of areas and just knocking out the front and back ones stops the advance. Infantry would be better off simply because the trailing unit can walk through the charred corpses of the leading unit, or take a slight detour through an artillery devastated forest and pray that the barrage took out some of the mines there.

So including the 400,000+ currently in Ukraine that would give us approximately 1.3 million combat troops. Assuming a generous (very generous) tooth to tail ration of 1:2 that would mean there is currently 4 million active Russian military members. How likely is that given Russia struggled to mobilize 300k in October and nobody wanted to volunteer before that?

A thought just occurred to me: I know why Belarus won't enter the war.
If it does, all NATO needs to do is declare war on Belarus.
That way, NATO would be fighting not-Russia, and the conditions for proxy warfare would still be fulfilled.

Is Belarus willing to take on the real might of NATO? All that airpower which so far has gone unutilised in Ukraine. I think not.

      Anonymous

Problem for that. Russia is in CSTO, the Russian version of NATO. Both alliances are defensive in nature. This is why France didn't help out the US in Iraq, Iraq didn't attack the US and so France wasn't under obligation to help out. Which is why they are called Freedom Fries and not French Fries.

So if a NATO member attacks Belarus, the rest of NATO is under no obligation to join in. However, Russia and the rest of CSTO (a small number of countries but still) are obligated to join in. Meaning at least one nuclear power present in the conflict assuming it's not a nuclear power member of NATO that invades Belarus. Risk of nuclear war dramatically goes up.

        >NATO is under no obligation to join in
        counts for nothing
in politics, no nation will do anything it doesn't want to do, it cannot be compelled
corollary: no nation can be stopped from doing anything it wants to do, provided they feel they can bear the consequences

case in point: NATO is under no obligation to assist Ukraine right now. and yet.
similarly: CSTO should theoretically be obeying Russia in all things. and yet.

They stopped the invasion of Kiev from Belarus, so I don't see why they can't do it again.

    No.
That would require the invasion to reach the Ukrainians first.

Ukraine could leave the entire border with Belarus completely unguarded and the ruskies still wouldn't be able to take Lviv. Why? Because mobiks are severely moronic and operating that close to the border is guaranteed to end with a squad of dumbfricks stumbling into Poland, which will promptly end russia and the war
