Do AR pistols have a real purpose?

Other than being a way to get around SBR tax stamps legally, is there a point? They seem like they are fun but can you use one for a practical application? I think no. There's no real point.

That’s ridiculous, shakespeare lived hundreds of years ago. He’s not alive anymore. The chandros portrait probably doesn’t even depict him so we wouldn’t know what he looked like if he was alive

    No

Only scenario that might make sense is the buffer-tube being compact enough to not be in the way of a gas-mask, sling-tension shooting setup, .. but in that case having a compact collapsible stock would be more versatile.
Laws create circumvention, the US has "pistols" Germany has ARs trying to look different from the military version as possible to allow short barrels with less permits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdwvewyOdbg
    etc.
There is no point other than the ballpoint of some politician involved.

So how does the law in Germany work? Is it really based on appearance?

            Anonymous

There's some old stuff in the books about guns looking like the full-auto military counterpart being banned.
It used to be stricter, giving us the gray SL6.
Applies to sport shooting and less than 16''-ish (42cm?) barrels or sth.

              Anonymous

on the SL8 the HK243 shows how the law changed .. but the government took the opportunity of banning normal capacity mags when it had an excuse to do so.

      >Germany has ARs trying to look different from the military version as possible to allow short barrels
Thats just Hera making them space gun esque as possible for sport shooters.
Hunters can own ar15 sbrs no prob.

Is hera quality decent enough or should I spend the extra € 700 to get a DD in 300 blk? (Want a DI gun, only have HK pistons)

          Anonymous

If you're going for a .300 Blk you're probably going with a short barrel, I'd think a piston would be better.

            Anonymous

Kinda want DI cause of the piston pop and flow through removing solving back-pressure problems. Don't really "need" the gun so reliability is less a concern that also having a DI one.
(So looking into the available Oberland, Hera, DD, etc. )

Maybe it's some kind of optical illusion but the length of pull on these looks insanely long, what's the deal with that? I know Germans can be pretty tall but that seems excessive. (Also I think Germans might have long legs and short arms for their height too, I'm of mostly Germanic descent and I do, and I find that German cars are the only ones that ever fit me properly.)

No, AR pistols have no use, they are just a legal place to put your SBR upper when it's not on your illegal sbr lower. A pistol lower is safe harbor for as many sbr uppers as you want and that's it

Some states only allow for concealed carry of pistols and not long guns, but they're cool with AR pistols. Good to have in a backpack, also, in case there's some dude attempting a mass murder or a you want an easy gun to bring with you to an Airbnb that gets attacked by a group of home invaders.

        >i dont think that guy claims they are more effective
        He does.

Vastly superior in a vehicle. I don't think anyone contests this, and shooting from a car will suck no matter what.

Arguably superior for room clearing. Less exposure, more compact shooting platform, more fluid movement, in addition to the weapon itself being shorter.

Easy to shoot out to 300yds, although the video is more about people saying 5.56 out of a short barrel is useless.

          >in an open environment where you have the ability to shoulder a gun, there is some advantage.

            >>in an open environment where you have the ability to shoulder a gun
Have a barrel which makes intermediate cartridges perform better. So not an SBR or a cheek pistol.

                >in an open environment where you have the ability to shoulder a gun, there is some advantage.
thats a quote from him in the video you linked. like i said its a great technique but its based around avoiding NFA/brace issues to begin with.

                >but its based around avoiding NFA/brace issues to begin with
And the RDB-C is based around avoiding California's gay laws, but it's arguably the most useful version of the RDB because the normal RDB doesn't distinguish itself, but the C or survival variant is more compact in an additional dimension, making it easier to stow.
