quirky bit of the law here is that slingshots are as illegal as non electronically ignited explosives'
but because it is worded the way it is, almost any bow, blow gun or harpoon is completely legal, even Atlatls which are way the frick scarrier then whatever Denice the Menace shit you could do with a slingshot

      Anonymous

But people don't do hood shit with atlatls. Logistics trump other considerations: a slingshot can hide under a hoodie and put a 20mm steelie through a person's skull. Your average javelin isn't getting close to others undetected.

I guarantee you that a modern bandset and a decent extension can drive a 20mm ball bearing right into your noggin's goopchute.

not through, maybe, but it will get lodged in their skull at least. those things are frickign scary.

When you said that I literally heard "Let me show you its features" and a maniacal German sounding laugh in my head

Some slingshots are no joke. A strong one can absolutely be lethal

Hmm, i wonder if people take a firearm in a forum populated mostly by American outdoor-types... no point in checking if there's already a thread.

saw a hiker carry a pistol on his side holster hiking up Guadalupe Peak once, which is weird because it's a well-established trail with plenty of foot traffic, rescue jannies everywhere, and no wild animals

In Canada, we cannot carry handguns in the woods. So no. I don't want to lug around my 22 on a motorbike since our barrels must also be super long and non collapsible

We can. Get a trappers license. Takes 300 and a day.

Wtf? Tell me more! I have a restricted PAL already. So you don't have to contact the RCMP for authorization to transport your handgun into the woods as I have to do if I want to transport a handgun from my house to the shooting range?! What limitations are there? Wouldn't you get in trouble if you had a handgun in a national park and a conservation officer came by?

He's right though. You want hardened ammunition, it's really more important than the caliber.

For bears, penetration wins. Hollow points are for humans.

I take bear spray and bear bangers to protect against wild animals, where I hike is grizzly country but funnily enough ive never actually seen a grizzly yet. I also take a slingshot with the thought that I can take out a rabbit or something if I ever see one but I havnt gotten one yet.

I would never hike without the bear spray though, its much better than a pistol when facing a charging bear.

pretty sure apex predators are very rare in the wild so you'd probably only see one from a very far distance or if you are about to be eaten.

The laws are so vague about CC...because if you happen to have a fishing pole or fishing gear ..you can have a gun with you....before even getting your CC permit.

A pistol or hunting rifle is genuinely useful for survival.

Hunting + fire = quickly secure your basic survival

Then you can spend more time on things like shelter and survival beyond food+water

Fire to cook the meat and sterilize water.

Pistol, rifle, knife, or even a spear for hunting/fishing and defending yourself from wild animals.

Carbs, vitamins, and minerals from foraging and wild gardening while hunting/gathering.

Animal hide to make clothing/beds/shelter if you really need to.

And random criminals and feral schizos if you are unlucky enough to run into one. Samuel Colt was the great equalizer.

Yeah I love carrying my gun. Think about it, all our ancestors until 100yrs ago carried weapons. Knifes, spears, swords, clubs, bows, etc etc. There's something just engrained on us about packing heat.

Well I'm not merican. And even in murica carrying a gun fell out of fashion after the 30s and only became common again in the 90-00s.

I don't carry a gun but we don't need a permit to carry down here anymore as of this year.

Rednecks will carry them on hunting trips though because that's pretty normal, or just to go legally practice shooting out in the woods on public and private lands.
