its certainly possible. We need to see how much more damage these pushes are going to do. After lyman the russians will be very afraid of encirclement, theres a chance they could fall into another disorganized frantic retreat, BUT there is a decent chunk of forces arrayed there.

retreat to where though? AFAIK the major bridges crossing over the Dnieper River at Kherson were damaged beyond repair by missile strikes, so if they're retreating it's gonna be by paddleboat or on foot.

          Anonymous

Yep, retreating without their armor and heavy equipment. swim, paddle do whatever to get across. This will rearm the ukies with needed gear, they will not have to deal with POWs slowing them down and using up resources and the ones who run across the bank with likely be utterly broken which is serve to terrorize other units (assuming they aren't pissing their pants already after so many losses up north)

Of course they do - and not the Russian party line, but the milblogger one that isn't too far from the truth (as far as tactical situation). Many read Ukrainian Telegram as well. They all have their illegal-to-have smartphones, most with Ukrainian SIM-cards, connecting to Ukrainian cell towers.

US military units always talk about morale being shit because they have to do trivial bullshit or gay-ass restrictions, but we're about to see what a TRUE lack of morale does to a military. When the death toll and videos of what happened at Lyman start getting around, Russians are not going to want to push forward. They are not going to defend positions with any conviction. They will stop obeying orders when they KNOW most orders have ended up being a death sentence.

They will be told they are fighting for their country and they should be proud, but they will only remember the videos of their countrymen lying in pieces strewn across a battlefield. The fear of death will grip them every night and day. WW1 trenches will look safe and comfortable by comparison to what the average Russian conscript will endure.

I am willing to bet there will be mass surrender at Kherson when Ukies get there. By then, there will be no question what happens to them if they try to run or fight. It will be a pointless, painful death from which there is no escape.

I don't think "VFU" is seeing much use anymore, I rarely see it even the most rabid Telegram channels. Pretty bad idea to imply that a force to which you're losing pitched battle after pitched battle, culminating in strategic defeats is merely a "gang" or a "militia" and not a real army. This is a very old trick, Russians used to call Ichkerian soldiers and Chechen militia "gangs" in the first Chechen war which backfired horribly when Russia was forced to admit defeat and sign a peace treaty at the end of that war. If anyone is using "VFU" today, you'll immediately know that not only is he a Ztard, but also a moronic Russian boomer who thinks it's still 2014.

Please just negotiate for a total withdrawal while you still hold a piece of Ukraine to withdraw from. Ukraine may still be willing to throw you a small bone to soften the humiliation in return for them being able to get an early start rebuilding and not lose anymore men in mopping up your defeated forces. Please just stop this fricking insanity.

at this point, a total defeat is the only thing that can get putin removed. if he even gets a scrap of clay, he can say it was a success. he needs to be forced out of all parts of ukraine so it is returned to pre-2014 borders.

then ukraine needs to be protected and supplied to make sure they don't try to cross again because i seriously doubt even if that happened putin would go 'fine it is over', we'd have to wait for him to die or somebody to remove him.

Also, at every point where a road or rail-line crosses from (pre-2014) Ukraine into Russia. That road/rail-line is demolished and blocked. Ukraine will have no reason to interact with Russia is any way for 1000 years.

(Also, the Russian oblasts that touch the (pre-2014) Ukrainian border should be turned into demilitarized zones.)

Pretty much, Borova, Svatove, and two cities on the border.

              >I think mud season makes crops untenable there. It's quite literally the tail end of the eurasian steppe.
Everywhere is a mud season. It's okay for agriculture, it's "chernozem" after all, like almost everywhere in central and eastern ukraine, but it was sort of frontier for a long time.
And the thing with the north part of luhansk oblast is that there is no coal there.
You can go to a donbass proper and get coal after digging a couple of feet deep in some places, and in the north there is nothing in the ground, only some chalk here and there.
And that region was really settled when russian empire started to industrialize in mid 19 century - british businessman built a steel mill, donetsk grew around it, and mining settlements appeared everywhere where coal was.
Before that it was known as a part of "wild fields", and one of the most remote - forts here and there, occasionally cossacks, runaway serfs, tatar raids and a lot of grass.

          >I think mud season makes crops untenable there. It's quite literally the tail end of the eurasian steppe.

Certain crops are very tenable since the soil is very fertile - mostly various melons and vegetables. The problem is water resources since like 80% of all rain in the region falls in spring, and not much of it is retained as the multiple rivers carry it away. Plus the year-to-year variance in precipitation levels is very large, so in dry years (and you always plan your settlements for worse years) there's very little water to support a population.

The region could definitely benefit a lot from water regime development, better regulated rivers, possibly some smaller dams, but you need peace for that.

So the plan is to try the exact same thing again, except you now don't have a single even *decently* trained brigade, your newest equipment is circa 1989, morale is through the floor across the nation, you have zero element of surprise and the enemy is more numerous, armed, trained, equipped, and has higher morale than ever?

They had a video about the Russian mobilization, and they said that it may or may not be real, and that Putin's latest speech may be a deepfake. Also, Russia is literally winning according to Tucker Carlson and that retired colonel he keeps interviewing, the one who says that the Special Military Operation is going exactly according to plan in every single interview, up to today.

A meme. World of Tnaks is stupidly popular in China, and Type 59 was the first chinese tank released on it. And it was basically ludicrously OP when released - you essentially had a very slightly worse T-54 at Tier 8... when the actual T-54 was widely considred the best Tier 9 medium tank in the game. It got so bad in the first few weeks after they released it that Type 59 being overpowered essentially became a meme in itself.
