Did everyone freeze fighting on the entire frontline, except for Bakhmut?

Did everyone freeze fighting on the entire frontline, except for Bakhmut? And why did Russia put mercenaries in charge there?

Is this Russia's new military strategy? Army proper holds ground, and mercenaries do the advancing?

Hohols concentrated all their military assets in or near Bakhmut, it's a meatgrinder but actually for the Ukrainians and not the Russians. Pic very much related, this what /k/ doesn't want you to see.

army group is 100k men or more, corp is at least 30k, division is around 15k, brigades can vary a lot but a division is normally 2-3 brigades so 2-8k on average i guess
the smaller ones have more variety in sizes still but generally 3-5 regiments form a brigade and this continues on until you get down to companies that are like 200 men

Most of Russia is uninhabitable. Here I made a little map for you to help your visualize it. Even some of the sparsely populated areas are filled in with red, but where you see red is where the borders would be if they ended where living breathing human beings actually ended on the map.

As you can see we visualize Russians borders all wrong, a good majority of it is uninhabitable, simply rich in some natural resources. But unlivable.

Think of it in HOI4 terms. Russia has 2 divisions on most tiles, maybe 1 on shit tiles. Wagner are like 24 expeditionary force divisions sent from someone else.

Russia is just spamming all of Wagner in one area to give a superiority they could not achieve otherwise. Even in 100% of Wagner dies, they can still hold the lines y'know.

      Anonymous

      I dont understand this
Wagner gets all their shit from the Russian military
      Their Equipment
      Their personnel
      Their orders
its all from the Russian military
yet why does it not affect the Russian military?

        Anonymous

Corruption works a bit differently when you're attached to the system versus a part of it.

You can try selling off Wagner supplies, but your family will likely be fed to pigs, alive.

You can try selling off conscript supplies, but you might have to kill a few subordinates to hide the fact that you got gipped and your superior expected a bigger payday.

        Anonymous

They get their equipment yes but they’re treating the prisoner “recruits” as cannon fodder to force objectives. So it’s not really drawing to much from the societal pool and no one in Russia gives a shit if a violent criminal gets used as a human minesweeper.

Basically more dead Wagner means fewer Moscow babies having their reality broken and get unruly

one put Putin's smarter moves has been having troops that might be the greatest threat to his power in the locations of greatest casualties.

  9. 1 year ago

Russia is trying to not put too much strain on their conscription force, utilizing penal battalion and Wagner mercs as well as other auxiliaries has always been a major part of their strategy for this war. Putin, his advisors, his oligarchs understand completely that if he were to abuse the average Russian man too much, he is liable to rebel against the government and restart the government. Already happened on several occasions before in Russian history. Just making enough bad decisions and angering the oligarchs and mafia bosses is also a terrible idea- he has already witnessed a contingent of his fighting capable and fighting age population escape from Russia.

What this means politically is that the Russian's who exist in Russia today are generally indifferent towards the war and to your average Russian, the war is unpopular but generally viewed as necessary for the safety and future of the Russian people. So he knows he can use up his fighting age population (only about 33 million fighting age men in Russia last time I checked, and a good majority of them have to stay in their private sector jobs for the economy to function correctly) so Putin really only has about 5-8 million men he could reasonably call upon to give their lives and he's already exhausted potentially 250k of that manpower.

He could try to conscript more women but this would be generally unpopular. He has to rely on auxiliaries and mercenaries.

I don't think he cares about the average Russian. The Russians dying are from places far away from the centres of power. The only deaths that might be of concerns to the regime are mobiks from Petrograd/St. Petersburg/Leningrad and Moscow since that might introduce instability there. I guess it means the AFU has to start focusing on destroying the units being mobilized from the Western Military District, but I'm guessing these guys are probably in the back..

        sage

Recently those guys have been getting chewed up in northern Luhansk. But they're also simultaneously more defensive and backed up by decent forces like the remnants of the VDV (this is tactically sound as losing Kreminna would be a catastrophe) so it's nothing like the Vuhledar, Avdiivka, and Bakhmut disasters
