this is dumb. bears are excellent tree climbers. and that bag of food will only wet its apetite and act as an apetizer of sorts. {your the main course btw} i keep my food in my tent. If any bear or mtn lion wants to take it they're gonna have to scrap with me over it. I'm a notorious back woods scrapper. these bears better watch out or i'll take their eye out with a trekking pole.

        >in before a bear or mtn lion could kill me real easily.
I know but these predators aren't accustomed to eating anything that can put up a fight, or slash it in the face with a folding knoife. carnivores usually don't eat other predators.
less toxins accumulate this way. leftist yuppy types go missing and get eaten in the woods every year because they invoke the hunting instincts of these animals when they run like a b***h away. dont go in the woods if you lack the confidence to fist fight a bear. or poke it in the face with a walking stick. really you should be fine just yelling, and if not shoulda carried a gun.

    be vigilant with food.

    > don't eat in or anywhere near your tent / campsite
    > never sleep with your pack inside the tent
    > keep food stored in dry bags
    > dry bags and anything that's touched food gets hung from a tree branch.
    > bottles that have contained any type of sugary drink are stored away from your campsite.

native bush rats and mice here are frickers.

you sound like such a loser. Imagine going out and then spending the whole time quaking in your ultralight trail runners the whole time worrying about bears. Frick bears. You yell at them and they run away. They hate loud noises. God i hate yuppies like you tho.
      > we gotta shutdown the woods now goys, to protect ourselves from the super horny homosexual yeti bears. exactly. lets hand carry our shit back to town with us also.

The carabiner and clove hitched stick method of hanging your food bag, but bears aren't as much of a pain in the ass as rodents or raccoons. Frick raccoons.

If I am hunting you can be confident nothing larger than a squirrel will be within 2 square miles of me.

I’m not that worried about bears since they’re uncommon in my area, but how do you deal with raccoons getting into your cooler unless it’s literally right next to you? Last time I camped, the cooler was like 15 ft away from the fire, and I was dealing with raccoons the whole time. I even shot one but they still wouldn’t even frick off after that. Keeping it in/on top of the car wasn’t an option since it was hiked in.

    pretty simple
bear can legally required: bear can (if you don't need it often they do rentals)
im actually worried about bears and can is not legally required: ursak https://ursack.com/products/ursack-major-opsak-1
im not that worried about bears and can is not legally required: pct hang https://www.backpacker.com/skills/how-to-hang-a-bear-bag-pct-style/
and no matter which method i'm using, all my food is going inside OVEN BAGS from the grocery store for smell-proofing. opsak's are also popular but i find your standard normal every day oven bags from the store work even better.

What are you talking about legally required? You’re saying it’s mandated to carry bear spray where you’re from? Why not just carry a gun?

This thread is dumb. Beats have little to no interest in human food, so really you could just leave it out in the open and it would be perfectly safe.

If you're not man enough to defend your food from scavs then you shouldn't be outside. Sleep on top of your hoard like nature intended.
