day 438 of the 2 day special needs operation:
>Russia has completely failed to take Kyiv, and completely abandoned the northern front
>Lost Kharkhiv in September
>Lost Kherson slightly later, which according to Russian law, is actually Russian territory
>Ukrainian politicians are so confident in achieving some sort of victory that they do not feel the need to make concessions in negotiations
>Tides of war have shifted so obviously against you that Western politicians are explaining how Crimea isn't core Russian territory
>one and a half divisions worth of your troops have surrendered, over 100 divisions of men 17-35 have fled the country
Give it to me honestly: If Russia loses the Donbass and Crimea, Syria begins collapsing again, and CSTO breaks apart, how high would this rank when it comes to the greatest military failures in history? Are we talking worse than Tsushima? Maybe worse than the Winter War?

    Funniest war so far.
Probably top 5 in the most catastrophic invasion ever.

      What are the other 4?

One of them has gotta be the Japanese invasion of Korea in the 1500'-1600s probably, they did well against the country overall but got absolutely bodied by a single Admiral who was at the time also wrongfully wanted for treason by his own country.

Japanese shogun was basically using the war as an excuse to kill off his domestic political enemies by sending them abroad as well.

He was using the invasion to give the samurai something to do, the country was in civil war for so long that after he took power and unified it there were hundreds of thousands of warriors with no one to fight.

The invasion was also mainly aimed at China, with Korea only being on the way.

Then he should've put the Tokugawa on the front line.

Not the top, but some other I find funny.
        Anglo-Zanzibar War
        Rhodesian Bush War
        Toyota Wars
        Pig War
        6 Day War

        Other battle similarly funny:
        Battle of the Tenaru
        Battle of Yultong
        Battle of Khasham

there's more but I'm too lazy to remember

That time the Russian fleet sailed halfway around the world to get the shit kicked out of it by Japan, and nearly getting blown up by Britain on the way.

No military failure would ever surpass this war if Puccia stumbles to complete defeat. It will become a byword to all soldiers.

I have a feeling that once Gaijin is sold to a Ukrainian company as war reparations we will get a Ukrainian sub tree

I'm honestly surprised Gaijin hasn't put NATO vehicles in the Soviet tree as premiums for a Ukie micro tree yet. That would probably lead to the game being banned in vatBlack folktan though, which I'm surprised it hasn't after they used Ukie memes in their social media.

Ukraine is a peer threat to Russia, that's the real humiliation.

The Ukrainians won't negotiate with them. Aside from genuine bloodlust after Bucha, the kiddy rape, etc. why would they want Russia to keep Crimea? It'll just give them leverage to try another invasion in a few years, or go back to 'nonviolent' subversion like they used to. At this point taking back every last one of Russia's ill-gotten gains, including Crimea and Donbabwe and Luganda, is the only real choice for Ukraine.

Also Ukraine knows what happen to Finland historically. Giving up some land for short-term peace means Russia will try again later.

The longer this goes on the more I wonder why they don’t just negotiate to keep Crimea. They could brag that it’s “officially” part of Russia then. I guess they just want to outright fall apart instead. They currently have enough (old) tanks in good condition and shells to glue their shithole together, although they will never be able to rebuild their military at this point

      >why they don’t just negotiate to keep Crimea
Because they stalled time for too long thinking that they could still get a better negotiation position.
Now Ukraine has no reason to accept permanent territory concessions, so at the best Russia could get some sort of 50 year lease on Crimea. And that is unlikely to happen too as Russia has proven themselves to not obey any agreements they have signed.

Definitely worse than Winter War. Worse than Tsushima depends on wether Putin has to deal with a full-blown revolt in the aftermath.

Civil war guaranteed when he dies. Every potential claimant to the throne is building or already has a private army, none of them will go quietly into the gulag or be thrown out a window if they can help it. Wagner b***h is already laying the ground work for his claim, the rest will follow a similar pattern after the war is lost and everyone is looking for someone to blame. Monke doesn't give a frick what happens after he's gone and it shows in how he plays them off against each other, his b***hes will be unmuzzled and tearing each other's throats out until one becomes top dog and purges all the rest.

I wonder if there is a way to speed up the process. Like assassinating some high-up FSB guy and make it obviously a Wagner convict. Or Having Shoigu implicated in a palace coup. You know, something to trigger a rush to gather arms/allies and then someone thinks they have the upper hand and it all collapses.

    >Presidential elections are scheduled to be held in Russia in March 2024.
Could this lead to instability? We've seen protests in Belarus after their last presidential elections, and it took a couple of days for them to be squashed.
