Dan Wesson M.15 6"

My LGS has this for sale (used ofc.)
How does it stack up to other revolvers?
Price is about half of what a used 686 goes for around here (europoor).
Should I go for it?

I've heard good things about Dan Wesson 1911s, not much about their revolvers though. If it's not too much you might as well go for it and report back.

Their revolvers are where DW made their start, they are certainly better than Smiths.
Basically they got their start in IHMSA, long range silhouette shooting. Smiths would shake themselves to death under the heavy loadings these competitors would use while Rugers and DWs held up.

      >Smiths are worse because 40 years ago they had issues with ammo used for a very niche shooting sport

Smiths are worse because even today they've never made a 44 Mag that can withstand the strain of a steady diet of hot loads.

Lol they are certainly worse than the others for that specific type of competition. Don't project your shitty reading comprehension on everyone else.

priced equal to a used 686 is a buy
priced less than a used 686 is a no brainer.

unfortunately here in burgerland the days of finding underpriced Dan Wessons seem to be behind us thanks yo gunbroker ect.

      This &

      >Should I go for it?
      Absolutely. Great guns.

. Your worst-case would be that the gun is already broken or an otherwise abused state. You probably don't have to worry about that, but get hands-on it if possible and see if there's anything obvious wrong. If everything's seemingly tight, it's a solid gamble to bet on. Chances are it's not been used that much, so low wear on parts maybe/probably. With that barrel, it should shoot magnificently. I can't make out the caliber ... what is it? Also, good personal OpSec to not publish serial numbers.

    100% buy it anon.
    I've got a dan wesson 15 with 3, 4, and 6 inch barrels.
Not sure what the laws are like in your country but you can change barrels out at home with a wrench and .006" gap gauge to set the barrel from the chamber face.
My father has a 686, when he first picked up my DW he said out loud "holy shit this feels so much better than my smith" even before he shot it.
Single action over travel is adjustable with a set screw in the trigger, double action pull is literally the shortest I've ever felt in a revolver, probably 75% of a 686.
The grip is removable just like the barrel, and because of the way the hammer spring is designed, if you are handy with carpentry or bring it to a gunsmith you could custom fit it to the hands of andre the giant or your 6 year old niece if you wanted.

They were generally well made but had to/could be tuned so youd find plenty of "broken" ones. That and the name sounding like a knockoff made them 250-400 dollar used guns till the internet got informed about it. Then the price went pretty high.
In your case its worth buying as long as you are willing to put in work maintaining it.

I own that exact same 715 and anon they are imo the BEST revolver to be made. Btw that specific one is designated as a VH model (vented heavy barrel) and it's the hardest ones to find. Usually they're pork chop or have a slant cut on the bottom.

You will need to train yourself to reload the frame clyinder release but it's made that way so your offhand holds the gun while your shooting hand goes for the reload this design also makes the frame more structurally sound
    >Incredibly durable frame perfect for hot loads
    >Parts are easy to get bc they used other revolver parts
    >Uses ruger iron sights
    >S&W K frame clyinders
    >K frame holsters work great
    >Interchangable barrels in under a minute and designed so simply that the most autistic at home gunsmiths can change barrels of they have the tool and feeler gauge
    >one screw Interchangable grips, perfect to tailor the gun to the users hand
    >Stupid accurate
    >Great factory trigger, but I will mention it's not as smooth as a Python but much better than a 686
    >Dan wesson is the great grandson of Wesson of Smith and wesson and he basically said "Fine fuck it my family company is sold under me but I'll make my own with blackjack and hookers"
    >numerous barrel options: 2" 4" 6" 8" and even a fucking 12" barrel kek

I have shot stupid hot loads from random Bubba bullet buckets and it's never let me down and across ALL manufacturers they had excellent QC this includes the later made version manufactured by CZ.

They're heavily slept on and usually ignored bc of the unique clyinder release. I strongly suggest buying it anon, I got mine for a steal last year (600 bucks!)

Cop revolver shooting competitions were dominated by DW's for a long time until they shifted to SW due to sponsorship deals.

10/10 revolver anon. I have a snub nose barrel and a 6" magnum barrel, I have that same black grip and I have a uncommon "compact" grip for my snub nose which changes the grip angle to have your hand ride higher up. I shill.

PS it uses SW K and L frame parts. Not just K frames.

      https://www.danwessonforum.com/forum/revolvers/715-frame-size/
Also fun fact there's "large frame" versions of DW's that are chambered in .357 super and .44 and even .454 casul..

Objectively a good revolver and I cannot shill harder than I have

        Anonymous

DW never chambered a 454 Casull, they made longer framed guns for "Super mags" like 445 or 357, but those operate at the sane pressures thanks to more case capacity.
Won't take it like Rugers will.

Ah, my mistake. Regardless for .357 and .44 they're without a shadow of a doubt one of the best wheelgats around

I almost pulled the trigger on buying a snub nose like yours with the same full vent but sat on it too long and it got snatched. Now all the snubs available are slant cut

Cz sells brandy new barrel assemblies for them in the VH square style in their online web store.
Just get a good frame and you can buy the barrel separate.

        Alright anons,
        You've convinced me.
If the rifling looks good and the action feels alright, I'll buy it next time I'm there.
Don't expect pictures for a while though. Waiting time is 2-6 months from time of purchase

Where the fuck are you that you've got a 60 day minimum wait time?

Also I'm laying in bed right now but I really want to get up and put the 6" extra heavy slab barrel on mine to show you what is possible with them lol

It's the transfer time which is taken care of by some police department. They don't exactly prioritize gun ownership here...

I bought a 686-3 used last week for 400 eurobucks, whats the market price there?

      Anonymous

1400 freedom bucks for good condition standard model.
Out market is a bit skewed because of import, taxes and stuff like that. So the expensive stuff isn't 3-4x what it is in the states, but the cheap stuff is.
The new Python for example is $2850, a new Taurus fs92 is $1000
Also, being a scandi is generally expensive

1400 USD for a used SW is a robbery lmao, you are a fjorddweller i presume?

I can't imagine living without the joy of buying nice guns for around 500 eur

Had one for a while, it's an awesome revolver. Accurate, light, feels great in the hand. Only trouble I had was I hated packing it into the brush, and cleaning the thing was probably twice as complicated as a Smith. If you can get it for a good price, it's a nice addition to any collection. Personally, I find my Ruger Security Six is a much better gun for hog hunting.

they're fine but have acquired a cult following because they're also pretty cheap and so poorfags buy them and hype them up. definitely not better than a smith like some other anon suggested. about on par with ruger

      >definitely not better than a smith
I own a DW made in the 70s and a 686 made in the 2010s, I can tell you with certainty the DW is better than the Smith.
The only thing the S&W wins out on is it is lighter weight and has a smoother double action pull trigger pull, but it is also longer.

Dan Wesson makes damn good revolvers. I have no idea what the quality of their other guns are.
