If it is a 22160 then it's 1 less Tor and, at least temporarily, 1 less surface combatant to worry about when striking the bridge but not much else. They're not particularly capable vessels, with the Ruskies having to tie a Tor to the helicopter deck to get some anti-air capability, however it is significant when considering further strikes against the bridge

Would one of these fit on a rail car? There are roughly 1000 of them and i'm sure they are for sale, they really need to start getting smaller boats out there to protect that bridge. from sea drones.

That would be the export version, the Norks would not let Russia get the version of that with the torpedo tubes.

Yes, that tiny little thing can carry 18 inch torpedoes. 2 on the deck or one under the waterline. Most don't but still, it's kinda funny if you think about it.

I don't think sea drones themselves pose much of a threat to the bridge unless you're really going crazy on it. Like REALLY

          Anonymous

Russia doesn't have any heavily armed small coastal security ships like the DPRK does. The Norks have over a thousand of them.

The most cost effective way for Russia to screen the bridge, their harbors and even ships might be to buy up a bunch of Nork coastal boats and use them as ablative armor/interdictors.

Anon, I don't thin these things have the depression necessary to hit a submerged target at the range they need to.

The drones spend most of the time underwater and only surface for the attack run, like U-boats.

It just makes Ukraine's ability to transport their exports over the sea that much safer, as Russian interdiction becomes that much less realistic of an option.
Remember a few months ago when Russia left the grain deal and there were concerns about a "blockade"? Seems a long time ago now.

      Anonymous

Less air defense for the bridge and less risk to them shipping grain to the rest of the world for money to buy weapons. Nothing immediate.

      Anonymous

Russia used the navy to launch missiles into Ukraine.
They also threatened with a naval blockade of Ukraine.
They could threaten Ukrainian planes over the sea.
They could protect the resupply of Crimea, time comes to it.

And even if there was no immediate strategic advantage, it's also important to put Russia in a situation where they bleed lives and equipment in every front until Russia decides it's better to leave Ukraine.

The entire Ukrainian economy relies on trading through the black sea.
Cucking the Russian navy is a long term investment.

Any Russian naval asset that gets knocked out in the Black Sea is permanently gone, since Turkey closed the strait, so its well worth it

Less missiles targeting mainland Ukraine, mainly Odesa
      Less AA covering Crimea
Less means to resupply southern front and Crimea via the Black Sea
      Less danger to Ukraine's shipping
Also seeing Russia lose tens of thousands tonnes worth of warships is funny

Russia cannot give up Crimea, so turning the whole peninsula into a massive ressource drain would be a major benefit to Ukraine.

      As these anons

It just makes Ukraine's ability to transport their exports over the sea that much safer, as Russian interdiction becomes that much less realistic of an option.

The entire Ukrainian economy relies on trading through the black sea.
Cucking the Russian navy is a long term investment.

have said, the biggest thing is that Russia declared the would close the Black Sea to Ukrainian trade and not only have they been utterly unable to do that, but if this continues over time it could become dangerous for their own shipping - keeping the Black Sea open is a major strategic win for the Ukrainians, the fact they've done it so far without a fricking navy just makes it hilarious

        Anonymous

Many of those ships are either involved in supplying crimea, providing air defense to crimea or launching cruise missiles onto Ukraine, so remove the black sea fleet is paramount.

          Anonymous

Absolutely - but so is keeping trade open, and I would argue for the time being is more important than the longer-term Crimea campaign

it's almost impossible to destroy, you'd have to blow up almost every column and/or both ends. hence why it's so quickly repaired each time. it was designed for this purpose because putin wanted unassailable access to Crimea from Russia

        Anonymous

Didn't the leaked German general talks assume around 20 taurus missiles? I'm not sure what level of damage they're talking about.

          Anonymous

that sounds right. basically you need to render large sections of it unusable to make repair infeasible. even then in peace time it should be fixable, but if you do enough damage it wouldn't be fixable in wartime. check pic rep, just look at the shere number of the columns in this section. if a chunk of the bridge collapsed they can just build out from the nearest undamaged column, and these things are beefy. it's also unsophisticated, just reinforced concrete, so easy to repair. it's totally unnecessary autism for a bridge UNLESS you're worried about it being blown up. it's a strategic asset, sort of like how the Pentagon and nuclear reactors are engineered to withstand intense intentional trauma

            Anonymous

hitting the top of those arched bridges would make for a very lengthy repair.

Okay genuine question, I know it may be stupid but let's entertain the thought. How hard would it be for Ukraine to sneak in few SF on a dingy boats and plant explosives on a pillars? Maybe not to completely tear it down, but damage its static enough to render it unusable? What kind of explosive could make this happen?

              Anonymous

I feel like it would be easier and safer to just try more sea drones again.

              Anonymous

Realistically, you'd need a tonne or two of explosives to do anything meaningful. Maybe bridge security is so shit that you could drive a few trucks across, parked up, plant the bombs and drive away, but it isn't a plan I would want to rely on.

Something that russoids and their political ilk share is this notion that the other side must be as emotionally sensitive, hysterical, and distraught as they themselves are. It's total bullshit, but it's the sort of delusion that they cling on to to safeguard their fragile sense of superiority.

It's quite similar to the "libs owned" moronation you find in american politics, where flyover shitstains will engage in really cringe inducing triumphalism over the idea that they've wounded the feelings of imaginary leftists.

LGBT are the new israelites, at least in russia. Russia is a pathetic joke to the rest of the world so they have to persecute the gays. Some girl got 9 years or so for wearing a rainbow earring recently, and it wasn't even the correct rainbow (had an extra color)

if you believe russian media we're all a bunch of homos sucking each others dicks with the goal of destroying "family values", whatever that is. I guess if we go by Russian standards it means going out and drinking yourself into a stupor then coming home and beating your wife and kid. Putin loves russian family values so much he more or less legalized violence a few years back

it's even better than that, because unlike actually being israelites it's easy to jail anyone for lgbt shit in russia: 30% of males are closeted buttfrickers due to army and prison culture sipping into normal civilian life, zoomers play around with gay aesthetics and shit, even having something rainbow colored is enough to get into trouble. To be completely fair, the russians close the bridge every time the ukies launch drones because that one time civilian traffic got stranded on it absolutely terrified them. They usually shut it down when the ukies hit targets in eastern crimea.

More or less, even if they don't hit it it's still a pretty major disruption given these closures seem to last for hours. I will say I don't think they put a halt to the rail side of it during these alerts though.

All we can confirm, just like the attack on Feodosia the other day, is that an attack took place, and they closed the bridge. I they hit or sank a boat, we'd see it tomorrow or much later tonight. If they'd damaged the bridge we'd have already heard about it.

It wasn't a fake attack, but long-range drone/missile attacks just don't always bear results. The ukies have done a great job so far with their long range attacks but crimea, and especially the bridge, has better AA than moscow itself.

It's an idiom which describes a situation, task, or object that is cumbersome and difficult to manage, yet cannot be easily discarded or ignored. It implies that dealing with the situation or object in question is awkward and inconvenient, but one must still handle it because abandoning it is not an option or would lead to additional complications.

Look like cargo or towage vessel, eitherway most likely a civilan vessel.

does anyone know how they visually capture the approaching USV's in the night? does someone have to watch thermals all night, or did they have advance warning from a ship that sees the USV's earlier?

your giving them to much credit, they probably only start hearing the drones when they get close.

It did look more like a secondary than what we've seen from other USV attacks. The GUR release says it was hit in the stern and left and right sides, and we saw last time with the Ropucha that they've started trying to hit areas of the ship they've already damaged ,so it's not impossible.

It's like they think the scale of the accomplishment has to match the investment, that since they lost so many men the prize must be DEVASTATING to the ukrainians to lose.

Never does it cross their mind that it's possible it wasn't worth it. That's going to be the narrative about this war in russia for decades.

Most of the other ships got hidden in Novorossyisk (russia proper). The ones getting hit are the ones actually pulling duty protecting crimea, supplying crimea or attacking Ukraine. If you remove them as well, crimea would get more exposed and have issues with supplies.
