Why? Switchblade 600 has an armor piercing warhead.

300 is cheap and small, it could burrow into the barrel, without people knowing it’s there and then boom

Why not have it burrow into peoples wieners like that one South American river fish that uses its retractile spikes?

Interesting question. You could probably do it with a raspberry pi and python maybe. Detecting and aligning a cylinder based on whatever resolution video is what it would boil down to. I bet it's possible

They already have AI piloted drones that race through and around obstacles, so it would be easy.
But would the explosion damage the barrel when it'd have to be a small enough package to fit through a barrel.

Why not aim for the fuel tank or ammo?

You might be able to damage external fuel tanks, but remember the S300 is closer to a 40mm grenade with an airbust charge
it's really not going to hurt anything bigger than a truck.

It’s possible, with image recognition AI and complex math. However, it would be very difficult to maneuver the drone down the barrel of the vehicle is moving. The system can predict where the barrel and tank may go based on their current speed, but the humans inside could turn the turret or slam the brakes. This would mean a limited success rates in modern dynamic battlefields. And, if it doesn’t line up with the barrel, and it is just the 300 without a AP warhead, it’s not gonna do too much.

Also if it doesn’t cause catastrophic failure, it would only take a barrel and breech replacement, which are already replaceable parts.

Basically it’s more cost effective to use something that near guarantees a total kill than have to use a unreliable system like this

The 300 as OP says is anti-personnel shrapnel, not armor piercing. It wouldn’t penetrate enough to detonate ammo, and would not ignite the fuel, which is separated from the crew (usually) by additional armor

Also would possibly be more effective to detect open tank hatches and target them. With a basic IFF system you could have a decent loitering munition

    >Fly into the part of a tank specifically designed to regularly have explosions in it then explode
Unless those things have a much bigger warhead than the propellant for a tank shell I can't see it being all that effective

I mean OP's idea is dumb, but so are you
the propellant charge isnt the same as fragments. That's like saying an ounce of explosive fragments in your AR's chamber is the same as firing a round through it.

Bad for the barrel sure, maybe even disabling the gun but it's not going to destroy the tank.

switchblade 300 range is shit, so are the optics and the charge is weak as frick. 6 to 10k usd lol.. useless piece of shit
theres a reason hohols prefer commercial drones with improvised rkg9s dropping bays

      Anonymous

they "prefer" using their cheap commercial drones to drop grenades because the optics are good enough on SBs to use them as proper drone recon.
Nice try at demoralization propaganda, though.

they prefer it because of optics when thats the switchblades main fricking purpose so there you go moron. A 10.000 usd device gets beat by a commercial drone a tenth of its price, plus its reusable, has more range and fly time, and much more powerful explosives - also can hover still in the air. Switchblade is a scam and per unit cost should be around 400, 500 usd at most

That's... actually a pretty good idea. But you'd need a totally different design, it would be miniaturized to the size of a golf ball and released from a mother drone to account for the short endurance. It would seek out either the barrels of tanks or artillery guns and disable them (barrel refits are costly), or high-level officers and detonate next to their vital organs for maximum psychological warfare.

While having a RC/AI claymore on wheels would be based as frick plane drones are just more simple to design and employ because you dont need to navigate the terrain when in auto mode.

how do you defend against this weapons and drones as a normal soldier?

      Anonymous

You don't. Autonomous systems are becoming their own branch of combined arms. Anti-autonomous systems (maybe autonomous themselves) will take on the autonomous systems.
At least, until your anti-autonomous defenses run out. Then you will be as vulnerable as infantry against tanks, or dreadnaughts against aircraft.
