Loaded cylinders from a Pancor Jackhammer were supposed to also be usable as mines, but it never made it to production so it's hard to tell if it would have actually worked
Seems like it wouldn’t work very well without a metal tube and some kind of pressure plate. Wouldn’t a piece of bamboo be too weak to contain the pressure of the cartridge?
Well you might be alright then but then everyone would have to wear armour sandals which 99.999% of the time would just be useless and just make you look like a dick.

not like that anon but let good ole Charlie teach you
I heard they used poor covered bamboo sticks as well, really horrible.
punji pits are one of those things that gives me nightmares to think about. Sharp, shit-covered bamboo all over. Bastards would set them up near ambushes in spots of likely cover so you were double fucked.

you could pretty easily put together a pressure switch that would trip a sear that's holding back a firing pin with a spring
You're still not going to make a great landmine, someone's going to have to step right on it to do any possibility of damage. You'd really have to make a little mini-gun to have any sort of hope of containing the pressure enough to send the shot through a foot (maybe repurpose a flare gun?)
Feels like a lot of extra effort to accomplish not that much...
Came here to say this. The mousetrap 12 guage booby trap, with a piece of 3" black pipe that the shell is inserted in, nailed to a tree and aimed down a likely approach like a path, trench or door with a trip wire is going to work significantly better than a shotgun shell mine that has to be stepped on
If it's set up like [...] where there's a short drop to make the victim fall forward onto the cartridge it should set it off, but it seems like it wouldn't be super reliable.
it's not enough to deform the primer.
it needs to happen kinda quick.
the theory about the short drop might work well though

This is already a thing. You know those 12 gauge pipeguns? That but shortened and buried barrel pipe up with some glue to hold the pipes in place. Someone steps on the exposed part of the barrel and the force overcomes the hold from the glue and it fires.
yes, that is my point. Any 'landmine' made from a shotgun shell won't be very practical.
A tripwire gun with a shotshell in a pipe would be much more dangerous.
>won't be very practical.
I'm unconvinced this would cause wounds that couldn't be treated with some gauze
>I'm unconvinced this would cause wounds that couldn't be treated with some gauze
Toe wounds in the jungle would suck, high risk of infection and all that. Puts someone out of action, keeps the rest on edge.
no
No, there's no barrel for gas expansion and controlled acceleration of the shot
The earth around it provides the barrel. The gas will expand along the path of least resistance.
Maybe. Or you could just put some cheapo steel tube in instead and get an actual lethal weapon.

the mass popularity of that gun and its features never ceases to amaze me give the fact there's only 1 semi-functional prototype in existence
Yes, mousetrap + shotgunshell

You can treat any wound with gauze, dipshit.
Sorry, treated with *ONLY* gauze
>treared effectively with only gauze
Get with it, man!
>wear armor plate like a sandal
now what?
Unreal calf gains and no holes in your feet.

Don't primers need an impact to set them off? Would just stepping down on them do it?

That one MIGHT work. I'd still bet on rusty, shit-covered nails though.
I thought the thumbnail was a flag. Like a moron version of the Polish flag lmao
If they were that easy to detonate, then carrying them around all day on a shoot would be deadly.
