Colt and remington did actually run to the ground in recent decades. Enough to call a lot of their products trash. And IIRC, they got fully or partly bought out by the Czechs (who also bought out or own the majority share in a lot of other common big name "US" gun companies, most smaller names are fully American and often better quality for the price).

They are pretty alright rifles but very hit or miss with it can to QC and quality of parts, I have seen some with receiver gaps so big that you could shove a quarter through or they were some uppers that were on there so tight it took a punch to remove it, handguards that weren’t properly fitted causing them to rattle or slide out the delta ring all together, upper and lower being two different finishes, and overall parts being of varying quality. They really aren’t much better quality than your average Aero or PSA in my opinion.

Colt 6940 is a solid monolithic gas impingement system, LMT is a solid monolithic piston system. I think the LMT is more enticing for being a piston system, compared to basic gas impingement systems. Suppressor friendly, blows dirt out more reliably. Thoughts?

      >thoughts?
you don't know shit about piston ARs

I know about ak's, still learning about ar's. I love my sam7sf, have some aero ar15's, but still learning. I was eyeballing the 6940 but am leaning towards a piston 11.5" for full time suppressor use.

      Anonymous

the 'pistons are better for suppressors' thing isn't entirely true. generally speaking you get less gas in your face with a piston but if you build your DI AR correctly you can mitigate the braps. as far as decibels go, DI is going to be quieter, softer shooting as well.

The fact I could gear up my whole family (wife + daughter + 3 sons + myself) with PSA AR-15/Dagger for the cost of a single DD in here being a euro is making me sad and angry.

But a PSA knockoff M4 and then replace the removable carry handle upper with a fixed carry handle A2 from ModelOne guns and you functionally have a Colt 727

        Anonymous

That's basically what I did with my AR except it's an H&R A2 upper.

Coltgay boomer here. Colt was the big swinging dick in town for decades and made quality rifles despite Colt being super happy with stroking the fed's dick by going above and beyond to cuck their rifles in various ways to ensure no "scary full auto parts" could make their way in a civilian "Sporter" rifle. This included looping off the bottom back of the bolt carrier group, using oversized trigger axis pins, hacking into the lower and installing an unsightly "sear block" among other things. But when your only other competition in town was like two other companies, this could be forgiven. By the mid 2010s the only real reason you'd buy a Colt is because you were a clonegay and wanted those juicy horse roll marks, or you wanted a dead reliable rifle without thinking much and found an LE6920 police trade in for a smoking deal. All of my Colt rifles have been reliable and most of my rifles are either Colt or made up of Colt parts here and there because I am a reformed clonegay. I won't buy NuColt as they are way too expensive for a bog standard carbine, and they ditched the roll marks for ugly laser engraving which killed the whole aesthetic even if you want to make yourself a little Block I clone out of one. If you want an A1 or A2 rifle or carbine and find a good deal on a used Colt, grab it as you won't be disappointed and it will be reliable.
