Can't talk about the new one, but the older ones had energy blades that only activate just as you slice or stab.
MGs were OP in AC until about Nexus or so, when they introduced bullet spray. Prior to that MGs fired like a laser.
Swords and other melee are an option but the great filter of AC6 was a boss that spammed hundreds of missiles and hit you in the face with a large bore cannon.
And Balteus gets absolutely clowned on by melee because the missiles can't track if you're next to him, alongside the pulse blade doing extra damage to his shield.
Blading-only in any AC game is memetastic at best and suicidal at worst. In most of the series, blades are only good at destroying stationary targets, opening doors, etc. without wasting ammo.

SEAD relies on emissions from said AD, so it doesn't matter where you put it if it's actively doing it's thing and in range.
There's obviously tricks and tech advancements, but all warfare is ultimately dependent on range, accuracy, and who can see/afford to kill who.
