It's on the road to make about 100 million, decent money for 55 million budget.

It should be our duty to make fun of israelitescars. Bunch of rich israelites awarding each other and glorified prostitutes. I simply can't believe how they made the world believe they are important but the power of mass brainwashing media is strong.

    >Reported Production Budget: $50 mil
    >Reported Gross Earnings (box office mojo): $89 mil

    Net earnings = gross earnings x .5 = $44.5mil

This film is still over $5 mil short of it's production costs and will need to make even more to cover any marketing expenses, which at the low end (10% of production budget) is $5 mil, while at the high end (20% - 50% of production budget) could be $10 - $25 mil. It will probably need strong after release deals to make its money back, but it's certainly not the bomb that the Magic Black film proved to be.

It needs $125 million to break-even.

to break even at the box office. Movies like that are always profitable on vods, blurays, tv deals. This one will be massive on streaming. Northman and Last Duel did worse in cinemas but eventually made money on vods

The thing about small budgets is that streaming making up the long tail of profitability is actually possible.
Since dvd sales died they have struggled to find something to replace that part of the economics and I say it’s largely because streaming has small returns and budgets are too fricking bloated. Small vehicles like this just barely breaking even makes the rest gravy. This is a good thing. They can take chances that other studios wouldn’t touch, taking chances means they get a rep for fresh stories which feeds into more people being interested. Especially since the studios are more risk averse than ever.
A24 might not be your cup o tea but the model is what makes them successful.

I have no problem with them and agree that smaller budget films true to a single vision, as opposed to committee, is the way to go.

their success has also allowed for other companies with the same premise (utopia, neon) to start doing the same thing
i would have said Beau is Afraid killed it but I'm not even sure about that, it seems just as strong now

That sucks for an a24 movie. They usually spend 10 million per movie.
