The US military can barely fly their planes and helicopters without crashing them in peacetime, the same goes for the Navy and their boats.

It would be an insurgency on our own soil. There would be many defectors. Single gun man ambushes and kills 3-5 soldiers. Infrastructure is destroyed so military would have to choose between protecting their family and their duty to the fed. They might have limited success with bringing in their families onto bases, but then the bases become targets due to food and fuel scarcity. Once their projection of power is reduced due to lack of fuel and armament the military would splinter into different factions as some units have resources they dont want to share while others do the fighting.
Thing is, in an overt civil war, I can see much of the military abandoning post to fight alongside their families. American military is only 2 million or so, most of the ones doing the real shit are southerners or midwesterners, the ones who would be engaging in the civil war or seceding.

It's impossible to predict what the exact breaking point will be, but it'll be a factor of a widening ideological divide & worsening economic conditions/stability followed by some kind of flash-point moment, like the government gunning down protesters or something (and they're very, very careful to avoid that sort of thing and are very good at suppressing anybody who might come close to stirring up dissident sentiment). Had conditions been a little different, Jan 6th COULD have been that moment. But, despite all the screeching, the protesters clearly didn't have genuine, violent, revolutionary intent, nor did Trump seize the moment to imbue them with that intent, so the whole thing fizzled out. The next election could get spicy, though.
