    IMPLESSIVE 1980’s tech!

This is why I never understood why everyone on /k/ was so excited about the X-37B, they're just unmanned spaceplanes with tiny payloads.

        Anonymous

The x-37b rendezvouses with existing satellites to boost or change their orbit.

Same thing the chinks are trying to copy.

As much as people like to pretend it's actually quite difficult to track the exact orbit of a satellite, especially if you have something up there moving it around at random.

          Anonymous

You can alter the satellite's orbit over one of the poles for example where China can't directly monitor it. An X-47b can also stay up for like 6 months and wait for the perfect time to release its own secret satellite at the perfect time. So many applications.

I don't think they've actually discovered anything, nor built the space station on their own. Military applications are non-existent because their hypersonics don't work and the US has a chokehold on Chinese foreign policy. The only reason China has for being in space is to spy on Taiwan 24/7 rent free.

Euros have like a dozen competing project, none of them with the money to compete.
India have the money but they don't have the technology.
Not to mention SpaceX pretty much told everyone: "if your next rocket isn't reusable you have no future"

On the matter Mushk is once again betting everything on something that might fail big time.
I still think that if he spent a little time making a reusable shuttle for a F9 heavy he might not get the lifting he need for his Starlink but he would create an monopolize a niche that would them profit to a future Starship.
Doesn't help that to me Starship "expected operating cost" look complete bullshit, so if it isn't lower cost than F9 you ain't covering the market for those who need smaller launch.

Still want Starsip to succeed, but well, build a proper flame trench instead of being a snob

Imagine spending hundreds of millions on a frick of huge rocked with three dozen engines and then cheap out on the flame diverter.
Imagine wrecking your launchpad, your rocket and half your fricking launch site because of this moronic shit.

          >Why did he do it? No meme answers.
          Sorry,
If Mushk had any input in that choice, it probably was made on a meme like "Flame trench are a scam to steal money, we are not falling into that one!"
Or maybe some scammer DID sold him that "unbreakable cement" knowing he would jump at anything that look like game breaking technology.

I'm more worried about how he apparently hope to recover the Booster on the first try without nuking everything he put around.
I mean, ok, environmental group make you pay each millimeter you use and the FAA is breathing down your neck because your rocket didn't explode on time when you lost control but still.
But right now the launch itself damaged several of the installation.

I also don't get why they DIDN'T catch that problem during the previous "full thrust test".

God it’s miserable talking about aerospace with morons and ESLs who don’t know the first thing about what’s going on but open their fricking mouths anyway
            >flame trench
Had all the equipment for it, decided to launch before installing it. Obviously a mistake. They over estimated the concrete but the point of failure was apparently the sand beneath it compacting
            > I'm more worried about how he apparently hope to recover the Booster on the first try without nuking everything he put around.
No, that was never the plan. Ever. The plan was literally always to dump the booster in the Gulf

The other main reason for the lack of a trench is regulatory. Tl;dr the army corp of engineers gets involved if they dig deep enough or use a deluge system, because of the wetlands, which means 18+ months of delays because of regulation. Seriously

Why would you need a reusable shuttle for falcon heavy? That’s moronic. They have a manned capsule.

You talking about the crawlerway at Kennedy? What's your issue there?

What's so crazy about using Alabama river rocks for the crawler to go over?

It is the most obvious pork barrel grift to line the pockets of the Alabama congressmen who have a stranglehold on NASA budgets and demand all sorts of shit be built or based in their shit hole. Essentially a gibs program
And the rocks have to be regularly replaced.
Did you actually think that Alabama river rocks were chosen based on merit? Lmao. And the crawlerway is only necessary because of layers of congressionally mandated moronation for the design of SLS. And then look up the costs for the mobile launch tower lmao

There’s basically no where else on the Texas coast they could have chosen. Yes really. The barrier islands on the Texas coast are a big problem and Boca Chica is maybe the only stretch of coast without one a few hundred meters out

one of the big things in the satellite industry these days is repairing/refueling/servicing/etc of satellites by other satellites, aka putting janny sats in orbit. the only reason why people are concerned about this is because the same tech can be used as a vector to attack spacecraft. but afaik we havent seen anything like that yet.

these things are all apart of rendezvous and proximity operations, which includes things like spysats spying other satellites, including other spysats, like these two chinese spysats being chased by an american spysat
