is this some kind of smoothbrain moment or something? everyone uses strike fighters, what do you think the f-35 or f-15e are? do you not remember the f/a-22, until the air force was told to frick off?

you might also want to check the comparative sizes of the f-22, the f-15 and the j-20 before posting next time. i suppose you're assuming that no one in this thread is actually going to do that and realize how much of a fricking idiot you are. in fact reading the thread it looks like no one has which is pretty typical for nu/k/.

It's designed to sink american ships. Frontal stealth is optimised to let it get close enough to fire. The body is large to accommodate either large internal fuel tanks or large anti ship missiles without compromising frontal stealth.

"Frontal stealth" is a meme, in a conflict there would be AWACS with data link in the air.

That was the only way they could get enough power from the engines. Chinese metallurgy is way behind US and Russian tech, which in this case means lower powered engines.

Only incomplete F-35 blueprints. They didn't get anything on why and and how to manufacture parts and other components that make F-35 effective and stealthy.

Akso it was the early blueprints from time were F-35 had still serious growing pains and technical issues. So I wish good luck to Chink to fugue all that out without having 80% of necessary know how.

They still lag behind Russia/UK/US/France when it comes to engines

This is why their entire airforce is all copied russian shit.

They still need another 20yrs to build their navy and into engines before they can match the US

        >Pretty sure J-10 and J-20 are better than any Russian shit.
J-10C was evaluated against the Chinese import Su-35s. Very interesting results.
Long story short: Chinese avionics are (much) better, Su-35s have some tricks with the Irbis-E and retains kinematic performance advantage against almost all Chinese aircrafts, but the gap isn't quite as large.

Su-35 is useful for the PLAAF as aggressors and as 'vanguard' units because their emissions are different from more sensitive PLAAF aircrafts thus SIGINT concerns are lower. When the Su-35s are deployed, like this time when Pelosi was flying in, you know the Chinese are serious.

China is flying Su-30, Su-35 and J-16, right? What's even the difference?

            Correction, China flies the Su-27SK, J-11A, J-11B, J-15 (and variants), J-16, Su-30MKK, Su-30MK2, and Su-35.

All are flanker variants, with the J-11B and on being almost 100% sino flankers (early tranche J-11B might have flied with Al-31FM1s).

You should peruse some actual literature.

            But long story short -
PLAAF Su-27SKs are designated J-11s. They were purchased from Russia in the 90s through a part barter agreemnt.

J-11As are the original Su-27SKs assembled by China from Russian knockdown kits. Domestic content eventually started replacing Russian contents. (This is when the Russians started crying about contract breach, which has some truth)

With the WS-10A entering service and the Chinese aviation industry having more or less localized the J-11A, J-11B started production. J-11B can be considered a product improved J-11A.

J-15 is derived from the J-11B with inputs taken from the T-10K prototype acquired from Ukraine. It's for carrier borne operations.

Su-30MKK and MK2s are tandem seat strike aircrafts assigned to the PLANAF. Acquisition started in the early 2000's and these were the premier strike aircrafts of the PLANAF for sometime. They're however getting a bit long in the tooth. MK2 has a more pronounced maritime strike role than the MKK.

J-16 is currently top dawg SinoFlanker with about 200 in service, including a dedicated EW variant. It's equipped with an AESA and probably sports an uprated variant of the WS-10A engine.

24 Su-35s were acquired from Russia after about a decade of low key negotiation. China wanted the engine, Russians wanted to sell a large order of Su-35s. A compromised was reached in which Russia decided it was better to sell to China now than to have China catchup later and make no sale, and China thought having a look at the then state of the art 117S engine and giving the Russians a quick cash infusion was worth the cost of 24 airframes. Su-35s are heavily employed as aggressors, along with...the J-20.

Surface area is not a primary determinant in EM diffraction and deflection. It's the edge geometry.

It's edge. It's going to be less stealthy on the sides of the aircraft since it have a lot more edges. And also, here's the kicker.

      >filtered by basic edge diffraction physics
If you read Ben Rich's book about his time at Skunkworks developing the F 117, he says one of the more surprising findings was that radar return depends much more on the shape than size of the object. Radar return depends on the angle of the edges, ie it is a function of the shape, not size or number of surfaces. Sets of wings/stabilisers that are parallel have the same return.

And if you'd use some observational skills, you'd notice canard fighters have the same number of protruding wings/stabilisers as non canard fighters. The F22 or F35 has rear horizontal stablisers, where as the J20 does not.

        >Sets of wings/stabilisers that are parallel have the same return.
exactly. Co-Planar canard delta is not really an automatic disqualification for emission reduction. It has to do with how you treat the exposed actuator coupling, if it is exposed.

Ufimtsev's paper is still relevant today.

It's hueg because it's optimized for long range operations in the pacific theater. The main reason for the NGAD program is that the F-22 and F-35 both have insufficient range to be effective in the south china sea.

China should have a strong handle on what goes into 5th gen aircraft. They’ve been funding development heavily. Between the big state institutes and extensive university research programs, AND the data they stole — China should have been able to put out a reasonable good 5th gen. But….that hasn’t happened. Their industry simply CAN’T produce the required tolerances, exotic material fabrication, etc. Their integration and flight software is likely very sub-par. So, they had to compromise on stealth. They kept compromising. Until the J-20 is what’s left; a barely low-observable missile truck which very likely does not meet the standard of a 5th gen.

it’s designed mission is taking out long assets like AWACS using very long range AAMs from as far away as possible. it’s not as stealthy as the Raptor so it has to be farther away, and it’ll have to spend more time higher up and moving fast so it’s designed to meet those needs. I imagine it’s probably faster than the Raptor but has inferior stealth, sensors, engine live, engine response, rate of climb, and carriers fewer missiles internally.

that being said while it has a worse radar that does not imply it has a bad radar. it can probably do the job it was designed for in vacuum, but in contested airspace against even just F-35s it will have its hands full just trying to get close enough to take out those high value targets

Apparently a lot of the features from F-35s (especially the B) that show up in the Chinese planes were one's that were tossed and never made it into the F-35. I read an article where someone said that it's almost like they gathered drawings out of the trashcan.
