CCW WHITE SPOTS

Hi! I carry my pistol everyday where my sweat naturally gets on the back end of the slide where these white spots formed. I wipe my slide every week with a light coating of oil.
What are these white spots on my pistol, and how can I remove these white spots?

That was my first guess, but I tried scratching it off with my fingernail and wiping it hard with a dampened cloth.

That's just where the finish is starting to flake off a little bit. Don't worry, it's only cosmetic and actually shows that you carry/use your gun regularly

The finish shouldn't be flaking off, it might be dead skin. I'd try soaking it in hot water and scrubbing it with soap.

I know right? I’ve carried my S&W M&P9 Shield every day since 2016 and the finish looks like the day I started carrying it. I don’t know what Smith & Wesson uses for their finish but they’re doing something right. The only way you’d know I carry it every day is by looking at the rear of the frame where the polymer rubs against me, the polymer has a smooth polished look to it in the high spots. I’d hate amerigan Sig even if they’re finish was worth a frick tho, I’ll admit

ive been carrying my shield for 6 years now and it just happens. from rubbing on my hip, shirt, pants whatever, they eventually show their mileage. im actually proud of how worn out it looks without having to dispatch one dark person yet.

yeah my shield is all rounded off on the polymer as well. it's a great little workhorse.

I've been carrying my shield for bout a year and parts where it contacts and grinds against the holster are showing. Also quit talking like a god damn robot or make your story not sound like some high fantasy.

you probably appendix carry inside your waist band and that part is exposed on your holster. your body oil and sweat will rip the shit out of almost any finish if you carry daily. get over it. you will wear out your daily carry firearm.

This, either wear wifebeaters like a wop or just accept it. You could always just get it cerakoted too after it wears off enough.

That’s rust, neutralize it and oil it some more afterwards and step up your oiling to every other day instead of once a week.

What kind of finish does sig use???

it's a really poor application of pvd physical vapor disposition. basically a metal ionized onto the slide. used to be applied properly and in gray color. 🙂

Also after you are done scubbing it with cleaner, oil it and let it get hot in the sun so it soaks into the metal. Use a gun and reel cloth, or, if you have a second carry piece, use real grease and let it heat soak for a couple of days to soak in good.

It's not about a sweat free diet, it's an acidity reduction diet. Sodas, excessive fruits high in acid, stuff preserved/pumped with various other acids, stuff like that

Keep it lubricated and wipe it down after a day of carry, even with a little mild CLP. Yes your finish is wearing, but salt water is pretty corrosive. 30 seconds of time to wipe it down at the end of the day will go a long way in keeping your slide from corroding and oxidizing.

They're Ruger tier now. Probably even cheaper to make, they certainly look and feel cheaper.
