      Anonymous

You gonna leave the handgun on the hood with a note, so they take it and spare the windows?

Because owning a pistol in justified disregard for the law is one thing, but the minute you go running out to confront them with it, your neighbors are going to call the cops on you, and it's going to end bad.

Anyway, if you persist, your options are building a glockalike from either a polymer80 or 3d printed frame (PSA Dagger slides are where it's at), or a black powder revolver like . Either way it's illegal AF in CA, but both are federally unregulated, so you have some chance of getting somebody to ship it to you, or to buy it from a store in another state without checking your residence.

      >any firearm
Does that include black powder? Usually you can get black powder guns even if you're not allowed to own firearms. And it's not just stuff like musket, black powder revolvers are plenty effective for self defense. Paul Harrell has a couple videos on black powder guns

      >Usually you can get black powder guns
If you mean "can get" literally, then sure. But then, felons "can get" modern guns, and do so with some regularity.
Assuming you meant "can lawfully possess", then I don't know the laws of all 50 states, but I believe "usually" is overstating it.
I know for a fact CA law does consider them firearms.
And my own state has (or had, prior to permitless carry) two definitions -- the law pertaining to carry permits had an exception for antique firearms roughly mirrroring the federal definitions, so black powder revolvers were not firearms w/r/t that law, and did not need carry permits. But the law for felon in possession of a firearm had its own definition lacking such an exception; a felon with a black powder revolver was no different than any modern firearm.

some people really like being around people. not even interacting with them, just being where other people are and everybody is doing their own thing. same reason why coffee shops are full of single people on their laptops or phones or reading a book without ever talking to another person. also, living in a big city, gives you something to talk about because there is always something happening somewhere near you. even if it's only a homeless guy digging in his ass crack grabbing a fist full of shit and throwing it around or a junkie barely conscious in some alley you walked past.

Nooooooo you don’t get it. Because there is a beach somewhat close that takes 2-4 hours to get to means that you hang out at the beach in great weather every day rather than going back to your house after work to watch tv or play video games like 99% of people everywhere else.

That attitude is down to LA being a revolving door of Middle American transplants who are still in the "extended vacation" honeymoon phase, dazzled by all the restaurants and shops, the presence of beaches and mountains, etc., and haven't become disillusioned yet. Meanwhile us actual natives, at least the white ones, pretty much invariably become blackpilled shell-shocked doomers and either turn into total druggies or reclusive angry misanthropes like me.

IIRC it depends on the severity of the reason you were committed for and whether the state holds that information or expunged it after you turn 18. I don't have the answer, you need to contact a lawyer in your state or possibly the state you were committed in.

This doesn't apply to a 5150 if you're released after 3 days. It only becomes a "commitment" if they diagnose you with a mental illness or deem you a danger and involuntarily hold you after the 72 hour period.
I know a decent amount about this because I was 5150ed without a mental illness once myself, got myself arrested over some bullshit on a Friday evening when I was 19 and the cop was an acquaintance who was trying to do me a favor by putting me in a nice cushy psych ward instead of making me sit in a packed jail cell all weekend. I was released with a clear bill of mental health but was still prohibited from owning guns for 5 years, and I think it may still be fricking with me almost 20 years later - I've bought 3 guns in the last 3 years with no problem, but then I got an "undetermined" result when I tried to buy an AR last summer.

Maybe you not having a gun is for the best.

Frick that shit. OP is a homosexual but that whole concept is gay too. Remember it’s California. Someone having a “mental health crisis” could be expressing disdain towards crossdressing men stripping in front of children at a parade. The fact you can be locked up for subjective measures without a trial is appalling and no one should support that. It shits on the entire concept of due process.

This only happens when you get dragged into the ER by the police. Considering what passes as normal behavior in the streets of California, OP must have been off his fricking rocker.

You can’t possibly be this naive. Since when are cops mental health experts? Since when are cops qualified to do anything except trampling on rights? The law doesn’t even require a doctor to do an evaluation. Even if it did, do you expect a quick evaluation with no other context and comparisons paints an accurate picture of someone’s mental state?
          >> But I'm not crazy!!!
          >Oh, but you are
Ok so you aren’t naive, you’re just moronic. Great job admitting you don’t have any chance to defend yourself and that you personally don’t believe in due process. Neat.

5150s are another thing that butthole Reagan can be thanked for along with the Hughes amendment.

You thinking everyone is in on the Plot against you is why taking your pews away until you calm de down is a good idea. You're going to be in a padded room for 72 hours anyway, so it's not as if you're getting in any range time this weekend.

Greentext is a different color from regular text so you don't need a double linebreak between them. Excessive linebreaks are a sign of compulsion and those that do so should be committed.

    The plot thickens:

    > A 5150 hold itself does not confer a firearm prohibition but does allow for the temporary removal of weapons. If the 5150 is placed by law enforcement and the person is found to “own, have in his or her possession or under his or her control, any firearm whatsoever, or any other deadly weapon,” that weapon can be taken into custody. Law enforcement can petition for the weapon to be permanently removed, on the basis that returning the firearm (or other weapon) “would be likely to result in endangering the person or others.”8 However, if the court grants this petition, it does not affect the individual’s ability to own or purchase other firearms.

If getting an involuntary hold is as hard in California as it is in my state, you had to do some crazy shit to get a 5150. Unless you have been stable for a long time with a very low chance of relapse, you shouldn't have a gun.

oh, but to add on to this; that still won't bar you from purchasing one until the judge commits them. California might have a state law about that, idk.

CA is pretty loose with it, you can basically end up with one over pretty stupid reasons - I got mine because my dad was an butthole and called the cops over an argument, and the cops knew it was bullshit but had to do something with me so they took me to the local psych ward with whatever the legalese for "going through some shit" is. They're generally not taken that seriously outside of the gun thing because people know about that too. 5250s, holds beyond 72 hours, are much more serious and require a court order or similar afaik.

Not him but yes. Shall not be infringed motherfricker. If someone is so dangerous they can’t own firearms they shouldn’t be allowed into society at all. Frick off grabber, I know you don’t own any yourself.

He wasn't allowed into society. If fact, to have a block on him buying guns, he must have had an involuntary commitment and an extended legal process. But you want to help the psycho get a gun to do lord knows what. That doesn't make you a "Patriot". It makes you a law breaking berk.

You said it yourself two hours ago that it is not an extended legal process. If he was detained then released is he not a threat anymore? If yes, why was he released? If no, then why can’t he own a gun?

Of course you have an issue with people believing in a true 2A because you own no guns of your own. I’m fairly confident you aren’t even American. But feel free to prove me wrong.

Google. A 72 doesn't prevent you buying guns. That just means the police can take the guns you have temporarily. But you can get them back.

If op can't buy, that means he had a real trip to the loony bin and has a hold on future purchases. Which is a good thing.
