Canadian Government cracking down on FOSSCAD

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/3d-printed-guns-canada-increase-1.6708049

They found it a threat enough that CBC has written numerous articles on it. Many police headquarters and RCMP have begun treating this is as threat.
What are the consequences? Will the Canadian government be successful in eliminating 3d printed firearms?

We need to invade Canada and depose the hostile foreign government that has taken hold of the country, but first we need to clean house.

This happens in America too regardless.
That's why my cousins lost their generational family home.
Their mother got cancer, her "great" insurance company denied her coverage because they didn't think certain treatments were "medically necessary", she spent her entire savings and drained her retirement fund in the meantime paying out of pocket, and went deep into debt.
She survived, then spent the next two years attempting to sue the insurance company for the debt.
Cancer came back (I'm sure the stress played a part).
Hospital put a lien against the home she owned free and clear for the unpaid medical debt.
This is apparently legal in VA, they can seize your house for up to 20 years post-debt.
She dies, her children are faced with the option of coming up with the money to pay the debts or the house would go to auction.
Kids all early 20's, have no way to get this money.
      House went to auction.
United Healthcare's israeli wallstreet investors get another penny to rub between their fingertips.

Maybe if she hadn't been forced to halt treatment temporarily while bickering with a doctor employed by united healthcare to review and deny coverage who had never met her, didn't know how long she had been receiving treatment, and didn't even know what type of cancer she actually had, and then forced into two years of stressful legal battles while she recovered from intense chemotherapy, she would have.
Again, she was insured, the best plan they offered. She paid into her insurance for decades. She ate healthy, exercised, did everything she could as "correctly" as possible.

Privatized, for profit health insurance is a curse on this land. It's exactly the same thing as socialized medical coverage, but with an added incentive to profit wherever possible by both overcharging clients and denying coverage as frequently as they can.

United Healthcare made $47,000,000.00 on average for every single day of 2021 after all taxes and expenses, BTW.
That's $47m in profit stolen every single day from the American people.

If every idiot who suddenly fell on hard times could simply sell off their assets cheaply to friends and family to hold while they went bankrupt, everyone and their brother would do it. It would be another story if she had sold her assets to her kids or formed a trust before getting cancer and getting screwed by a company that decided it didn't want to perform the function they literally exist to service, and EVEN THEN there would almost certainly be legal suits brought against the trust or children to try to reclaim some portion of the assets.

The Japanese are pretty free. Guns are the only thing they can't really do whatever they want on.

There's a debate to be had about whether you're free or not if you can't do something but nobody wants to do it anyway. Like, if there is a disproportionate punishment for self-inflicted lobotomies, am I less free?

        >If their homeland sucks, like Canada, they should make it better instead of swarming better countries

Many times, this takes nearly an entire lifetime or longer. The majority of people in any country at any given time are not going to just live a shit life so the next generations can have it better. America became the behemoth it is due to industrial might because the things people gained from having massive industry were things they wanted. You're also faced with the fact that culturally (for lack of a better term) such tasks are just a no-go in some places; no matter how much of a hard-working well-meaning guy you are, if you're from Afghanistan for example it will always be a terrible place to live in nearly every metric because one man or a small handful cannot change an entire nation on their own, especially with everyone else's priorities and wants being actively detrimental. And that's something that would take several lifetimes, if that, to change. Most people are fond of their homeland, but aren't willing to live a life of toil for the hope that maybe the next citizen has it better.

So they'll hop the fence, board that raft, marry that fat pig for a Green Card, whatever they need as long as the pros outweigh the risk and they're capable enough. I know some say "no immigration of any sort forever", but that would not only be impossible politically, it would cripple the country in several ways. People come over on business all the time, they come over for tourism, they legally work seasonally doing shit jobs Americans won't for basically no money; you could avoid them abusing this and immigrating illegally by making such things verboten, but you would annihilate the tourism industry overnight, oranges would be $5 each or something equally ridiculous (that or the collapse of a lot of rural America), and international trade would take a massive nosedive. All you can really do is filter out the least-driven an least-able, but some always will.

          >skim
I dunno about who you've talked to, but a lot of the times it's not skim, it's flee. You couldn't keep them there if you tried, they're actively looking for ANYWHERE better. If the US becomes hard to go to, they'll go to Europe, or the next easiest target
          >we require slave labor for oranges
I mean that was an example, but basically yeah. The average American doesn't realize just how much average shit in their lives depends on what amounts to slave labor keeping things cheap. If Americans worked all those jobs, sure, there's more ways to earn a living (those who aren't working now won't necessarily work just because it's available to them), but you're looking at all the modern comforts everyone takes for granted being a luxury all of the sudden. This isn't just bullshit like iPhones either, we're talking basic things like construction, sanitation, food, et cetera. Also, I never claimed I know what's best for rural america or anything, I'm voicing an opinion held by a lot of farm owners. I'm not saying I'm the arbiter of truth and right either, I'm just giving my opinion on how this problem goes. Nor do I claim "more immigration", it's about aligning people's wants with everyone's wants.

          >many times
Has it ever actually happened? We've been waiting many years for countries like India and Mexico to get better, but everyone there with any shot at making them better keep immigrating elsewhere.

Yes. Norway for example used to be a complete shithole about a century ago and then it got better once it caught a break and found oil, because they've got the right culture to make good of that kind of a thing happening. You give a massive windfall to Norway, you get good living standards for everyone. You give a massive windfall to Somalia, you get warlords in gold-thread suits and starving serfs. However, being a Somalian who happens to have a decent head on his shoulders and thinking you're going to fix the sort of societal problems endemic of Somalia is a fricking pipe dream. You might unironically be the type to say it doesn't matter and you'd still try, but believe me that almost no one thinks that's a good way to spend your one shot at life.

No, but I'm sorta-buddies with a guy who runs one. We're not exactly friends as far as knowing each other that well (we don't go out drinking or whatever), but he at least thinks I'm an okay guy, always gives me discounts on stuff and we'll shoot the shit when I come in in what limited capacity my autistic undersocialized brain can converse. Nice guy, runs the store with his son.
There is also the possibility he gives me these discounts and is nice to me because he knows I'm an autist and feels sorry for me. Probably what's actually going on.

I'm getting the frick out of this country anyway and moving to the USA to some red state.

And you stupid b***hes keep going on about the mythical efficiency of the private healthcare system like you can't stop sucking off Republican capitalists or you'll die.

What a fricking surprise. There’s a reason the entire area considers that city “bad news” Virginia. Joggers shoot everything up in that city. >by pressing thin sheets of aluminum or brass to create cases
Lol, not happening, unless you're talking about rimfire. The brass used to form cartridges starts off thicker than the case head of a finished case, and is thick enough to be considered plate metal rather than sheet metal. Case rims are also formed by turning on a lathe. This is well out of hobbyist 3D printing territory and into someone with a professional skill set and a machine shop territory.

Most people don't realize that drawn brass cases suitable for modern smokeless powder pressures (number 5 in pic related) didn't come to the scene until decades after the first centerfire cases did. IMO, fricking around with homemade brass for homemade guns just isn't worth it, especially since you're still dependent on smokeless powder to make significant use of that brass. 3D printed designs would be better off sticking with swappable cylinders or cartridge blocks.

      Anonymous

      >cases are not doable for hobbyists
cases can be made from foil or paper (see .577-450 cartridges) if you keep the pressure low. Alternatively, you can place the burden of sealing the gases on the gun itself rather than the cartridge case by having tighter tolerances (See Dreyse, Chassepot, 1867 Carcano).
      >Not going to work in your 3D printed autoloader
its fine for recreational use. Besides, this is Canada we're discussing. Their goal is to ban all guns. So a 3d printed bolt action rifle is better than no gun at all.

        Anonymous

        >cases can be made from foil or paper (see .577-450 cartridges) if you keep the pressure low.
Unless you're making cases for an existing caliber, it seems like you'd be better off with other options like Smith carbine style cases. If you're just going with black powder, you eliminate most of the difficulty when it comes to safe load data.

        >its fine for recreational use
Your gun fouling up after a small amount of rounds kind of keeps it from being usable for recreational shooting.

        >So a 3d printed bolt action rifle
Has someone even made a locked breach 3D printed rifle that can make it more than a small handful of decently powerful centerfire rounds and doesn't require commercial firearms parts for the lockup?

3d printed guns should be thought of as single shot per barrel weapons of ambush, like that Jap lunatic and his cyberpunk musket.
They're for shooting someone in the back at ten feet. For that purpose black powder and crude shells work fine.

Why would any sane person try to print a die when pic related, some bushings and a cheap press would cost about the same as a 3d printer be more repeatable and durable. Help me understand. Is it functional fixedness or they got a shiny new hammer and everything is a nail

Cheaper than a 3d printer, but not cheaper than the plastic it would take to make a die. Produce them at the cost of a dollar twenty apiece. Distribute them. Make them impossible to control.

Show me how you plan to use a disc cutter to cup and draw brass.
Here are the processes involved in producing a brass case:
      https://www.petersoncartridge.com/technical-information/drawing-brass/
For each step, you can absolutely make a 3D printed forming die to draw brass into a form.
Printed forming dies were already around two years ago for steel:
      https://hackaday.com/2020/03/10/forming-sheet-metal-parts-with-3d-printed-dies/

        1. Punch out disk
        2. Center disk on hole with desired od
        3. Use bushing to center undersized punch
        4. Press through
        5. Repeat as necessary
lube and annealing where necessary ofc.
The lower die will need some of its holes radiused and the drawing punches will need blunting. With a light duty die like this it's probably best to stick to balloon head/rimfire cases.

There's basically no stopping it as all you really need is information/data. Just like if you had the know how you could weld/mill a firearms from nothing. 3D printing just removes most the learning curve.
