CANADA WANTS TO JOIN AUKUS

Canada just announced it wants to join Pillar 2 of AUKUS. They want access to AI, quantum computing, hypersonics, drones and intelligence from US, UK, Australia but fricking get this, they don't want to contribute to Indo-Pacific security or the costs involved in AUKUS Pillar 1 program (SSN-AUKUS).

Imagine wanting absolutely all the benefits of the AUKUS pact and none of the costs or burdens and then really believing everyone else is chill with it because why not? It's peak delusion. I mean Australia alone is jacking in $300 billion into AUKUS.

At what point did Canada become a third world shithole begging for gibs? I mean there's freeriding and then this whatever the frick this is.

First it was the fricking F-35s that they wouldn't buy under Harper then Trudy swore he'd never buy until he did. Then they fricking scoffed at Obama when he asked about meeting their NATO commitment, then they scoffed at Trump for asking the same, then Biden. Then they want new submarines but don't want to pay for them. Then they want an icebreaker, then they want to defend the Arctic but don't want to invest in doing so. Why pay for shit when US will do it.

Is this a nation of israelites, or did the French DNA turn these anglos into selfish degenerates? At this point I'd rather die for Israel than these fricking turd roaches.

it's partly the Fr*nch (this is just what they're like) and partly thinking they're entitled to whatever benefits the UK gets because they're still commonwealth

AUKUS works because UK and US have histories of naval power and AU has an excellent position to benefit from contributing towards Indo-Pacific naval power, which is more difficult for UK and even US. NZ is in a similar position, but much less able to contribute because of its size

CAN is a naval embarrassment that has been leeching off USN supremacy and the de-facto isolation created by the Arctic for well over half a century. Mexico could sooner meaningfully contribute to the alliance than CAN, even without removing the fricking cartels

Not only do they want gibs, but they are so compromised by China that they would utterly defeat the purpose of AUKUS by joining it. Yes, many politicians in the US (and probably UK and Australia) are bought off by China. But Canada is on another level, not even lifting a finger to disentangle themselves from China. Invading and militarily occupying Canada would do more to advance security in the Pacific than allowing those homosexuals to join AUKUS

maybe then we can actually start treating the natives properly instead of doing Canada's bullshit of turning all indigenous land into federal property for "preservation" or just abandoning it altogether

but realistically speaking the US dislikes invasion immensely. still haven't even invaded Cuba, and the parts of Mexico just south of the border would literally rather be US states and the US is like "well that's your problem amigo".

Australia's strategic importance is mostly to itself. The oil flows west, China not going to cut that off and if you're thinking about Malacca and Sunda etc. those are a long way away and Vietnam and India are more important. Meanwhile Canada is on the North pole under the apogee of most significant missile exchanges

And you only have to look at naval fleet sizes to appreciate this in full. And we could not contribute meaningfully to a war that happens in the Pacific tomorrow. If Canada wants to maintain the "good ally" streak they're going to need to be the Canada that operated multiple aircraft carriers in the 50s, not the husk of today.

NO ANON. Its like five eyes. US/UK/AUS are net producers of intelligence, Canada and NZ are net consumers. They don't contribute intelligence because that requires investment in intelligence collection and analysis. Thats an absolute fact and this is your own analysts that say this read Carvern.

They don't 'contribute in their own way', the reality is they don't contribute at all and that's been the case for decades and it's directly a function of living next to the US and in benign geography. This isn't usually an issue because we'd rather have you in the tent then out of it, but don't talk absolutely nonsense about Canada's contributing in its own way. That's the kind of soppy shit that Trudy would say.

Just like it does in defence spending and NATO? Where it won't muster up close to 2%. When Ukraine started even Europe started dumping into defence. You know what Canada did. Pledged 8 billion over five years. And guess what that was for, it was an adjustment on inflation.

The fact is less than 40% of the public want increases to defense and so, no, Canada will not pay it's way, it hasn't historically and politically it can't.

            >What exactly do they need that military for beside expeditionary forces anon? They're surrounded on all sides by the USA, the fricking ice caps or vast distances of water
Canada could have a totally independent home defense while cooperating without relying on the US. Three fleets of six AEGIS destroyers (actually in progresss), six modern (not Upholder class) submarines and an F-35B carrier would be a good start. We don't need a huge land component, being able to field a division sized element for NATO/CAUKUS operations would be nice for actually being seen as contributing.

But those are all pipe dreams, Canada is missing some real fricking inexcusable basics, like "literally any system that shoots up". Canada has no theater level SAM, no tactical SAM, no MANPADS, nothing. Canada is entirely reliant on either the RCAF (which is garbage tier until we get F-35s) or more realistically the USAF to deal with any flying threat.

The problem is their current administration.
They literally just expelled someone from the current ruling party for being a Chinese spy, said party abstained from the vote and the individual in question had been acting as a Chinese spy for several years at this point.
They are also refusing to permit a public inquiry for any reason whatsoever, while bringing in people who are close friends of the party to "investigate the situation and provide feedback" which is a strategy they've used to dodge potential public inquiries several times now.
On top of all that, the party has had 7 corruption investigations brought before them and at least 4 of them have resulted in successful convictions.
The issue is that Canada's current leadership may as well be a Chinese asset, and has been proven to permit actual Chinese assets to operate within their government.

We're invading Canada in the next twenty years with or without Castro Jr. Canada remaining outside of American control opens it to foreign (Chinese) influence, and Canadians are too weak-minded and jealous of Americans to not aid China. The answer is military occupation for ~50 years, before finally being annexed as a territory like Puerto Rico

who would give them nuclear subs with the way they treated the 2nd hand British diesel subs they bought.

    >some moronic leaf leaves a hatch open during a fricking hurricane in the irish sea
    >seawater floods the battery compartment causing a massive metal fire
    >an irish coast guard ship tries to respond but has to turn back due to heavy damage from the force 12 storm
    >2 British frigates respond and since the type 23s are stoutly built (cod war was fresh when they were designed) they brave the storm and take the boat under tow before it flounders
    >they air lift the wounded sailors to British hospitals
    >literally the first thing canadian officals do is blame Britain for causing the accident due to the subs being faulty.

laid up cannibalized for spares in Canadian "service" was really a sad end for the Upholder class which is impressive since in British service their operational high point was failing to scuttle HMS Sheffield due to faulty Tigerfish torpedos

they were mid-lifed on the cheap as part of the sale to Canada but otherwise diesel boats can last a good while even if their operational availability falls off a cliff. There are still former US ww2 submarines in active service.

I guess its more common with surface ships since they don't need to be put under severe pressure.

    Impressive.

With this most recent achievement, fate has, in a single stroke, marked the decline of the west and spelled a new era of wondrous prosperity and peaceful global dominance for the Canadian leaf, which promises to firmly stand in sharp contrast to the historically bloody ascent of western powers and the cruel subjugation it brought to the humbler nations of the world. The blessings of Canadian plasma stealth technology, undetectable hypersonic combat vehicles, quantum direct-current electricity, neutrino submarine detectors, gamma titanium mono crystal turbines, quantum aircraft carriers, unmanned autonomous A.I. tanks, near-space ballistic air-to-air missiles, super light tanks, +2km range airburst rifles, quantum enhanced railguns, 5G Remote Surgery, magnetized plasma cannons, and quantum superalloy drones will be the instruments with which Canada affirms its noble stewardship of 21st century world politics and offers the non-western world a different option; an humanist alternative to the depredations of Western leadership and the opportunity for a more equitable and dignified multilateralism.

Australia and Canada are a lot a like we both have neglected our militaries for decades. We both have been compromised by Chinese spies/agents in our Parliaments. We both have be victims of chinese coercion. Australia responded by beefing up its military, planning to acquire SSNs, purging the Chinese agents like Gladys like or Sam dastaryi and making new economic deals with India or the UK. Canada responds by sitting on their ass, flip flopping on the F-35, ignoring the CSIS reports on Chinese influence and letting zhangs walk over them.

It was a deal for nuclear submarines, which Canada is not currently or any time soon in the market for. Australia is. There was a lot of hand wringing in Canada at the time, as there always is when it's not part of something. But Canada does not want nuclear submarines. They don’t have the money for nuclear submarines at this point.

However, in the months since Aukus was formed, a number of working groups have formed to deal with emerging and disruptive technologies. AI and such. Canada already shares intelligence with Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and New Zealand – an agreement known as the Five Eyes.

It's in Canada’s interest to try to be in those working groups of AUKUS that aren't related to submarines. The door is not shut for Canada to be involved, but Canada will have to show what it can bring to the table. Canada has emerged as a leader in artificial and signals intelligence, so that's likely the angle they'll play.

        Anonymous

        >door is not shut for Canada to be involved
Yes, it is. Canada is a wholly owned subsidiary of the ChiComs.

        Anonymous

Yeah but we already had a deal for submarines and the US was basically like, nah you need to buy ours instead and we basically had to par reparations to France to cut the contract and then pay for these more expensive subs. And who knows when we'll ever see them.

          Anonymous

Well at the time when Aus was signing for the French subs, they didn't hate China so much. Then COVID happened and China sanctioned the shit out of Aus, since AUS asked for an independent investigation into the origins of COVID. This made Aus take a more oppositional stance to China, as opposed to the fence sitting they were doing before. That in turn meant Aus needing something that could actually be useful in a fight against China. Instead of submarines that would protect their coasts, Aus needed something that could go up to the south china sea and work with American subs.

For the record, Aus isn't making American subs. They'll be British designed with US technology. A combination of UK submarine design and US defence technology will contribute to the development of the new SSN-Aukus submarine – intended as the future attack submarine for both the UK and Australia. Both Australia and the UK intend to start building SSN-Aukus submarines in their domestic shipyards before the end of this decade. The first such boat may enter into UK service in the late 2030s, but the Australian navy will receive its first Australian-built SSN-Aukus submarine in the early 2040s.
