Canada is giving outerwear with embedded electric coil heaters and access to outdoor power sockets to the homeless instead of giving them shelter spaces. How do you feel about this?

Can confirm. Stayed in a shelter and a welfare hotel for a while. The longer you stay there, the chance of being stabbed or catching some horrific disease approaches unity

Actually, the truth is most shelters require you to be sober to stay. They also prohibit smoking jib dozens of times through the night. Most of them would rather take their chances in the cold while high.

I hate bum junkies so much that sometimes I can't sleep. Every winter I hope that the cold nights take as many of them as possible so they can't further ruin my city.

Especially since they don't charge via sockets. They need the rechargeable USB batteries as well, and even a large one will only run the heat for half a day if that.

I use a suit like that when I ski, so I don't have wear a bulky jacket and layers. But I do need to bring a few extra batteries in my ski bag.

I don't think words really do it justice. See this map? All that grey area is Crown Land. That means the government is just hanging on to it for a rainy day and nobody can build there.

This pisses me off so much, it’s always been my dream to build a log cabin in the middle of no where by a pristine lake hundreds of kilometres away from people but I am not fkn allowed to, because so how all land that is not even claimed is owned by the fkn government

Good. They no longer need change or support from the public then, since daddy Trudeau will take care of them with my tax money.
A friend had a small “tent city” appear in a vacant lot behind his house - so we ran the hose under the fence and it flooded them out with cold water within a few hours.

The homeless need to be put into mental institutions. You give them housing and they light fires indoors, rip through the sheetrock, and sell the copper pipes for drugs.

    >instead of giving them shelter spaces
I'm sure that like EVERY first world country, Canada has plenty of homeless shelters and places the homeless can go to help them get their shit together, get a job and pay for their own accomodation.
Many homeless people just don't use them. They don't seem to want it. So just leave them. The options are there, that is all you have to do. They can use those services or stay out on the streets and die of exposure. It's their choice. You can't break your neck trying to save everyone.

Attention seeking is a big part of it. You can go get your government provided attention and share it with all the other bums in the shelter, or you can sit and shout about shit on a street corner and monopolize the attention of everyone just trying to walk past

Give them space to build shacks, and have wood stoves. Pretty much how most people used to live.

Doesn't work. In the US we've built mini homes for homeless people to use. In days they were destroyed, covered in poo, full of used needles, etc...

The truth is, you can't solve homelessness.
Most of them either want to be homeless, because they cannot function in society, or they are mentally unfit and need handholding help (or an asylum).

There needs to be a system (and I don't know how) to separate the clinically homeless from the normies that are just down on their luck, to allow the normies those services without the crazies fricking it all up for them.
