Can you help me identify this shell casing?

I know its from WW1, but I dont know if its Austro-Hungarian or Russian. I also dont know for which piece it was used for.
I found it in the forest near my village, where frontline used to go. I cleaned it and put some wd 40 on it. Picrel was taken 2 years after I found it.

Its in cm instead of inches. So its more like 8x3 inch shell

Is it hollow inside? Like the other anon said, those are driving bands, so this is the shell not the casing. I'm wondering if it could be some kind of canister shot.

        >just a big lump of cast iron
that sounds just like something unstable high explosives would say
you wouldn't happen to be unexploded ordinance would you?

Its hollow. It was full of dirt when I found it. Considering it was hollow and with flat bottom, I just assumed it was a casing. But maybe it was a shell that used to be filled with some payload like explosives or even gas idk.

        (me)
Also the corroded top didnt appear rounded so thats where I probably made a mistake

Probably canister shot then, a little on the small side for canister shot being only 3 in / 75 mm but not an oddity. With how corroded it is it might be hard to ID without being an expert though, I'm unfortunately not one.

Probably the back end of a shrapnel shell in that case. They were designed to separate in flight.

This is probably it. It doesnt say which gun tho. I guess it wast that big since I found the shell on like 60/65° incline on the mountain

Just look up the Austro Hungarian 75s, given you found it on a mountain it's probably from the Skoda mountain gun

Yeah, that would make sense. Funnilly enough, I found it on the western side of the mountain. I guess it was there to bombard the valley or defend the hill, for some reason.

Diameter of around 75mm indicates french round instead of austrian-hungarian but I can't find french 75mm rounds with 2 driving bands. Germany used 77mm but those shells have a rounded top. The worthpedia-picture looks a lot like what you have so I'm guessing it is austrian hungarian. Austria hungary did have the 75mm Skoda so that's the most likely culprit.

Yeah, Skoda is probably it. Thank you all for the info. It seems to be a shrapnel shell. Not sure if fired or broken. Really depends if shell could survive the impact. If it was fired, it would make sense that it was on a western side of the hill, since then it was probably fired towards advancing russians.
