California Legal Guns

What are some of the best options for a reasonable price? For hunting, sporting, target shooting, self defense, or just because they're cool, whatever.
I want to get four guns: A rifle, a shotgun, a semi-auto pistol, and a revolver. Just one of each, to have around because it's neat.
My dream gun is one of those repro Winchester 1887 shotguns but currently getting one is impossible

Well yeah, but I'm a newhomosexual looking for recommendations on what's reliable/easy to handle
The only gun I've ever used is one of my parent's Mossberg 500A, and I don't have any of my own, so no experience

I've been looking through it, there's a little more than 809 handguns here and I don't know what I want.

Flintlock pistols are always a popular choice.

Pick the one that's in your budget and you're able to sample at a local store. Bonus points if you're also able to rent it at a range.

This. Reading bullshit on the internet is damn near useless. Just go finger frick and dry fire some guns and rent them if possible.
              >reliability
Most guns on the market are reliable enough and if you have any issues you can typically get it fixed under warranty. Although you actually have to shoot your gun enough to find them. At least through the break in period and if you only have a couple malfunctions you're good to go.

For an example of how moronic internet gun people are. I was assembling an AR-15 kit the past weekend and was looking up how to insert the front takedown pin. Everyone was talking about this special tool for it or grinding down a razor blade to hold the detent down and inserting the pin over it. After looking at it for a bit I just stuck a flat head screw driver through the other end to hold it down and pushed it out as I inserted the pin and it was easy as frick and not mentioned anywhere on the Internet.

Just pick stuff you recognize from movies/books/games/anime but check online first to make sure it's compliant, affordable, and not a piece of shit meme. Small arms design hasn't advanced significantly in 70 years. As long as quality control is good, the gun will be fine, except for rimfire. Most rimfire guns are jammomatics.

Cucked commiefornia gay here. Search on Calguns in your area for good deals and just be mindful that if no one's biting for days or weeks, it's probably not a good deal. If reasonable prices are what you care about most, stick to common calibers if you can. Look at your LGS's that have good deals per week, month, or season. Want a good starter handgun on-roster that's 9mm? Grab a Beretta 92fs or PX4. Glawk 19 if you want aftermarket, Springfield XD9 in 4" or 5" if you want something better out of the box while their promo is still running for cheaper than the glawk. Plinking handguns in Cali? Browning Buckmark, no questions asked for a 22. Shotguns? Mossberg 500 or 590's, can't go wrong. Rifles? Don't bother with AR's because paddles suck wiener and mag-locks are insanely frustrating to unfrick while out on the range. Get something like a Ruger PCC in 9mm for cheaper rifle shootan, or for a plinker get a 10/22. Semi-autos in CA aren't worth it past that. Bolt actions? Don't start with 6.5 Mememoore if you want affordable, get something chambered in .308 or .223 if you want rifle calibers, or if plinking, get any CZ or Savage that you can find. Lever-action rifles? Henry golden boy for a 22. Revolvers? S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 in .357, or a Ruger SAA for 22. Have fun, get one of everything, rimfires save you money.

Forgot to mention. The Beretta handguns are DA/SA which I preferred for starters, the glawk and springfield are striker-fired. Either one works well but the external hammer is just more fun to look at. The PX4 has a $75 rebate going on at the moment while the Springfield promo is a free small handgun range bag and 3 mags ($25 each value) for any new XD line of handgun. Best choices for handguns right now. If you really had to have an AR, everyone says build your own, but if you're hellbent on buying prebuilt, you can often find fair deals for S&W M&P-15's on Calguns for about $600. Ignore Springfields for AR's. For home defense, some people prefer shotguns, some prefer handguns, some prefer AR's. If your house has really tight hallways, lean towards handguns. If you have a bit more tolerance, shotguns or rifles, but ultimately just use whatever you think you'd be most comfortable shooting from inside your house if SHTF.

NTA but I would say at the very least get an AR because when the CA AWB is ruled on (aka struck down again, this time with next to no chance of being delayed) there will very likely be a run on any and all rifles while the CA DOJ will scrambe and try to ban new things. Of course this wont impact handguns but just some food for thought while youre looking.

A .357 magnum revolver. You won't have to sacrifice its dignity to have it in your shit hole state. Unaltered yet still beautiful and deadly.

you gotta go to the local gun store and ask for a variety pack
then you gotta hold each one in your hand, pick one that feels good and can reach all the controls

    for all we know you're a manlet and can't handle a 1911

      Anonymous

How is a single stack handgun too big for a manlet? Plenty of manlet from ww2 loved the 1911 and the boomers offsprings are the reason why 1911 is still around. If anything double stack mag handguns are usually the reasons why small hands dislike Glocks, Sigs, CZ etc.

The most I'll get is one of those m1 garand style rifles like the mini 14
I greatly prefer that look either way

A compact 9x19mm is a good first gun. Check if CZ/CZ-USA guns are on the cuck list. The P-01, 75D PCR, and P-07 are all great for a hammer fired gun. Lookup the SKUs on their website. Make sure it's one that comes with a de-wienerer. If you like striker guns the P-10C (or M) are good.

If you want something more compact, the Sig P365 9mm is 10rds. The .380 ACP variant is probably the same. The Ruger LCP Max .380 is also 10rds, that's about the smallest you can practically go without sacrificing too much imo. Smaller guns are harder and less fun go shoot. I think the first 2 handguns a person should get are a subcompact 9mm or .380 for concealed carry and a compact or full-size 9mm/.40SW/.45 ACP/10mm for home defense and range use. After that get what you want.

Whatever you buy make sure it's high quality. I also wouldn't buy a Glock unless you have a fixation with how common they are and the availability of spare parts and mags. There are plenty of nicer guns out there.

For shutgun a quality 3" pump like a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500/590/590A1. I prefer the Mossberg 590 with the Retrograde furniture for looks and the 20" barrel with the 8+1 round capacity which gives you 10rds if you ghost-load. Look at their websites to see what you prefer. Later on if you decide you want another gun a semi-auto shotgun like a Mossberg 930, Benelli M2/M3/M4, Beretta 1301 are good choices. Turkish semi-auto shotguns are cheaper and can have some quality issues, but good enough if you're a poorgay. I suggest going pump for your first shotgun due to the reliability and utilitarianism.

For a rifle I'd go a battle rifle first and a hunting rifle second. An AR-15 in 5.56 is the common first choice. Lurk the AR generals. Too much to list here.

Idk about revolvers, but I'd get that one last. They're cool, but out-classed by modern semi-autos and they're the least likely to be affected by future bans.

Does it really matter if they're outclassed? They're cool as hell.

        yes
literally the best you can do for on roster in CA unless you want to pay a premium for some cz shit or sig. Alternatively I think the Taurus G3 line is approved so you could probably take that over a glock which isn't a bad choice either

Unfortunately true. Unfortunately I generally like it here although I am planning on moving somewhere with seasons for at least a while

CA is annoying because of the assault weapon ban and handgun roster but you can get everything you really need.

      >Handguns
All 3rd gen Glocks are on roster.
Plenty of different 1911s as long as you don't mind them being 45.
Springfield XD (old model), Kahr CW9, Bersa Thunder if you want something a bit cheaper.
      Hi-Point C9 if really poor.
      Beretta PX4, Beretta 92, CZ75B, H&K P2000 if you want a DA/SA.
Ruger GP-100 or S&W 686 if you want a DA revolver.
SA revolvers with 4"+ barrels are roster exempt.
      C&R handguns are roster exempt.
Olympic target pistols are roster exempt.
There aren't a lot of good 22 pistols on roster though. You can get a Ruger Wrangler for pretty cheap and that's an ok option since it's exempt.

      >Shotgun
Mossberg 500 or Maverick 88 is the standard go-to. Cheap and reliable.
If you really want an 1897 try a more modern shotgun first and then try an 1897. They look cool but with the bolt projecting out of the receiver they're a bit tricky to use. Having the hammer and bolt enclosed in the receiver is much more practical.

      >Rifle
Build an AR with a compmag. Easiest solution to ratio of cheapest and most versatile/capable. Easy to reverse.
Alternatively consider a Ruger Mini-14 or some variant of the M14 (Springfield M1A being the cheapest and by far most common). They get pretty expensive though.
SKS is a bit cheaper and makes for a good EZ CA legal milsurp gun. It absolutely must have a fixed magazine though.
Alternatively bolt or lever action rifle.
Alternatively a good basic 22 rifle is also a great cheap place to start.

      All good info.
      >1897
Very cool gun but I typed 1887, a nice long one like pic related
And I'm not a fan of ARs nor do I want or need a semi auto rifle so I'd probably get a bolt action gun because it's tactile

Any fellow caligays here gotten their CCW's with the new ruling lately?

I'm extremely confused if we need a CCW course or not to apply first.

      Anonymous

It depends on your county's process of obtaining a CCW, it all differs. But from my understanding most if not all will require CCW training.
Go to an indoor range and they usually will have more info on the latest CCW process as they usually will host the CCW instructor's training courses.
