California

I’m moving to a really shitty town in California for a year or two for a job opportunity

I was wondering if all the rumors about the cucked gun laws were true, I’m finding a lot of conflicting information about it

Is it legal or not to own a magazine capable of holding more than 10 rounds? Is it legal to own a firearm capable of fitting a magazine capable of holding mote than 10 rounds?

How legal is it to shoot someone who is physically assaulting you?

How legal is it to shoot someone who has broken into your home?

No; no; legal if you have proper licensing and can prove you reasonably felt your life was in danger; legal if they break into your residence and you can prove you reasonably felt your life was in danger

      >Is it legal to own a firearm capable of fitting a magazine capable of holding mote than 10 rounds?
Yes. Otherwise every handgun and external magazine fed weapon would be illegal. How can get that wrong is curious.

        >several manufacturers make Cali specific handguns which just come with a smaller mag
        >several online retailers won't ship mags over 10rnd to Cali
        >Cali has an approved handgun list, all of which have Cali models
Curious how one could miss that.

Out of state people can bring in their handguns just fine and it was one of the only ways newer guns could make it here after they cracked down on LEOs reselling off roster shit.

You being from elsewhere during april 2019 would mean you'd get fricked for the mags. If you were a resident then there's no real way of proving a mag is post 2019 save for date codes like a magpul mag.
Out of state people can bring any gun they want as long as it complies to basic rules like awb shit (fin grips/no flash hider) or overall length rules like folding stocked guns being measured with the srock closed rather than open noting that a folding/collapsing stock is an evil feature that may need to be fixed in place. Protip stock up on non CA handguns but not so much the atf knocks on your door with this new bullshit. Glock 19x and 43x is popular, avoid p320 as it's now on the roster.
Shooting someone here is not much different than anywhere else besides having a scummy da and the details on CC legality in the county (do you have a CCL did you pay the sheriff the bribe etc.)
Shooting in defense of your home is castle doctrine just don't shove your barrel down their ear and get grey matter under your floorboards at an exact 90° angle.

So I have a Taurus G2C 9mm - subautomatic pistol. Its magazine holds 12 rounds.

I would simply have to get 10 round magazines for the handgun, and leave the 12 round magazine behind, as owning a 12 round magazine would be illegal?

Additionally, what are the laws about owning shotguns for home defense? Are there shorter barreled but non sawed off shotguns I can get that are legal in California?

I don’t really know anything about guns, I only know how to shoot pistols and low caliber subautomatic rifles. I just want to be able to defend myself.

Keltec ksg is legal and half assed shockwave mossbergs (they have the full 18 inch barrel so it's just a mossberg cruiser with a different grip).
The taurus would need 10 rounders to sell in the state however the agricultural checkpoints don't really do shit for arizona and nevada people. Maybe idaho or iowa/whatever farming state but desert dwellers generally go unmolested (yes people smuggle shit like fireworks all the time just look at LA during 2020s 4th of july) I'm not giving legal advice but a common thing to hear among CA border patrol is "why the frick are we here?" while waving you in.

Do you know if the Keltec KSG can be modified to only hold 10 rounds? It looks like it has a 14 round capacity according to the site

Why would you do that? Manually operated firearms are exempt from capacity laws.

              >as owning a 12 round magazine would be illegal?
It's not illegal. There was a brief a few years ago in which a federal judge suspended the Californian law on magazine limits, you can simply claim to the authorities that these magazines were bought during that period. Any burden of proof showing otherwise would fall upon them.

Plenty of BLM area to shoot on surrounding San Bernardino County. If there are any non-handguns you want to transfer/buy after you move, have the FFL separate the receivers before shipping (receiver only transfers). If they're fudds who think they're somehow sticking it to Darth Newsom by refusing to cater to gun enthusiasts in CA, send it to a middleman FFL to have them field strip before shipping it to your local FFL. Wotjek Weaponry does good middleman services. You should also have a easier time applying for a CCW in any county that isn't the bay area or LA county.

Enjoy all the BLM land out there anon. I have to drive a few hours to get to there but its so much more preferable to shooting at a range. Frankly I have no idea how anyone could enjoy shooting at a range once you've gone shooting in the mountains/woods/whatever on your own terms.

Consider the Castle Doctrine non-existent. The bluer the city is, the more likely it is that you have the duty to retreat when your home gets broken-into, instead of the right to fight back.

Buy as many off-roster handguns as you can before you move. Buying off-rosters for the peasantry here means buying them used through private party transfer at a premium from cops who are exempt or somebody else who moved in with them. AR lowers and gen 5 glocks will be easy to flip. SP5s and other PDWs with brace buy it all when you move in. You can liquidate it all easily if you really do move out after a year or two. If not then count yourself lucky to not have to wait another millenia for the roster case to start moving its way past the appellate court along with every other 2A case that the state is trying to delay with Duncan.

Bring in a bunch of Glock 43x MOS and Sig p365s. Uncucked Sigs and 43x MOS can easily be sold for 2-3x the price. Also, KAC 15 lowers sell for a huge markup, they can only get the 30s.

    >How legal is it to shoot someone who has broken into your home?
its legal because california has castle doctrine which means the law is in your favor and gives you the benefit of the doubt that anyone who has broken into your house is intent on committing great bodily injury or harm to you thus lethal force is allowed even if they dont attack you or have weapons. in practice though this is not advised because you will be judged by blue haired dykes and bullring nosed hamplanets who will be furious you dared to buy a gun and then killed a 200 iq phd nobel laureate who was just jogging home from astronaut school and confused your house for his post doctorate cancer treatment research laboratory

California actually has a pretty lenient definition for justifiable homicide, it's the way the courts abuse jury trials to get the jury to convict an otherwise lawfully innocent person.

    https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=PEN&sectionNum=197.

By the letter of the law yes you can kill anyone attempting to kill you or another person, or IN DEFENSE of your property (not just anyone who enters your home, a demented old man or curious kid wandering in trespassing are not ok to shoot).

You may also resist in defense of property but not with lethal force.

    https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displayText.xhtml?lawCode=PEN&division=&title=1.&part=2.&chapter=1.&article=

This vaguely written "resistance sufficient to prevent the offense" means yes you can shoot someone trying to steal your car just to protect your property, if all other means of resistance were exhausted or couldn't be attempted. California is oddly based in some areas.

      >but not with lethal force.
      *not immediately with lethal force

They will judge this like Graham v Connor is used during police shooting investigations. Ability, opportunity, jeopardy, and preclusion. No I will not spoonfeed you notrains any further, but they will investigate whether preclusion was sufficient, meaning did you attempt other means (grabbing, punching, OC spray, etc) before jumping to lethal force or was jumping to lethal force immediately necessary to protect lift or property?
