I'm getting my first rifle soon. I've had a couple pistols, right now I just have a CZ 75 SP01. I want to make a smart decision, but one that also takes sex appeal into account. No, I don't really want an AR, at least not now. What I have my mind set on is the WBP Fox or WBP Jack. I would prefer the Fox because it gives me an extra method of mounting an optic, and I'm not yet decided on how I would want to mount an optic. Can I trust an archer rail to hold zero any more than a side-mounted rail? If I want to make an AK tacticool, should I just get a Galil Ace instead?
Fuck off to akg
cant watch anymore youtube about this it has honestly just made the decision harder
Ak general you fucking retard
oh yea thats pretty retarded of me shit
Try to find a used Saiga and convert it
Wouldn't be against it but that's debatably too much work for a first rifle
If you do find a saiga the vast majority of the time anymore you'll be looking at fudd prices and barks of "THIS IS A GENUINE RUSSIAN AK SON". Frankly with the right replacement stock I wouldn't bother converting it either aside from the feed ramp
yeah, it feels more like a collector's purchase
Galil .. Ace? No
Not hard to convert a Saiga, if you don't feel comfortable with a dremel a trustworthy smith can put it together for pretty cheap, not expensive either unless you want to convert the front end, rivet the triggerguard, etc. Hard part is finding a Saiga for a reasonable price
i agree the ace is not that sexy, i listed it as an alternative because it is basically a modernized ak that I would easily be able to mount what ever I wanted on. Saiga I would have to do work on and is probably too expensive, the WBP is still not cheap but is a new good polish akm, which is why i was drawn to it
I was just just fucking around bro, wanted to post my Galil. The Ace is great, especially with a plastic delete kit. I'd be all over one if I had more money or less guns
If you can find a serious deal on a Saiga I would recommend one, got this one bone stock in 2018 for $650, had the front end converted with Russian and Bulgarian parts and still need to get the rear done, have all the parts, AK-100 trunnion, triangle folder, Bulgarian triggerguard, etc. but a bolt on kit is just as fun and a lot cheaper
lmao good shit, thats a sexy Galil and saiga. I'll look more into the Saiga, but unless I can find one soon for a good price point, prob wont. I might consider the Ace some more as well, but leaning more towards getting a WBP
Galil Ace is not an AK, no parts commonality and it's plastic. It's an entirely new rifle design
This is the best option but also pretty expensive. I'd say get the WBP and see if you like AKs first. Imo the best choice for an intermediate caliber rifle.
Yeah i know, thats fair, just considering the galil as kind of a hybrid between the AK and AR
I'll probably just get the WBP Jack
If mounting an optic is a major concern, side rails are definitely solid. PSA has some options with a dust cover rail but I'd look up some reviews on whether or not it holds zero, same with the archer rail. You can only really go off what reviews say until you test it yourself.
Okay, good to know. I'll probably just get the Jack and use the side rail
A Galil Ace is an AK.
In my mind, a Galil is a Galil. It's based on the AK platform, but It has always been its own thing.
A galil is a valmet with cosmetic changes
That's fair enuf
A Galil is a valmet clone with some FAL-inspired furniture.
And guess what, the Valmet is an AK - the first prototypes were literally built on AK receivers.
You can literally drop an AKM bolt carrier into a Galil and it will work in a pinch.
Because it's an AK.
vz 58 if you're old school, SCAR if you're new school, AK if you're a masochist
I like the vz 58, would consider it. Scar is too expensive. I understand the disadvantages of AKs but I like them more than ARs, which is maybe gay of me. That being said I would like to mount an optic, flashlight, maybe a vertical grip, which is the main thing holding me back from going full AK purist or other old school guns
>I would like to mount an optic
Optics wise you can either get a side rail mount, a railed dust cover, or an ultimak. I use side rail mounts because you can have multiple optics that you can take on and off. I have an LPVO on one mount and a red dot on another. I dont have any experience with the railed dust covers but apparently the texas dogleg and the FAB defense work well. Zenitco also makes one and is a great source for modernizing aks but since they are russian they are not cheap and easy to come by anymore. The ultimak simply replaces the gas tube on your ak with a rail. You will hear rumors about the heat killing optics but unless your optic is a cheap piece of trash it will be fine, bear in mind this puts the optic pretty far forward on the gun so a small reddot is all it would be useful for.
>flashlight
You can google AK rails and find various ones available with mlok or picatinny and put any light you want on them. You could also get a barrel clamp mount if you dont want to buy a set of rails. There is no wrong way it just depends on how you want to setup the rifle aesthetically.
>maybe a vertical grip
Either get some rails and put any grip you want on it or if you want to go old school try to get a romanian milsurp dong.
As far as the rifle itself I would recommend the wbp jack since it is standard akm pattern and will be the most compatible with the most aftermarket parts. The fox uses a proprietary stock im pretty sure.
Thanks for all that, I'm thinking I'll get the WBP made pick rail handguard, I've been hesitant to look into the gas tube pick rail because of heat but also because it seems kind of awkward to have the optic that far from your eye. I'll probably just use the side rail mount, people seem to all swear that they're great except for the AR guys.
People complain becaause they add weight but I think they are the most flexible since you can have multiple optics that you can clamp on whenever you want. I think if I were you I would buy just the rifle itself and shoot it for awhile then you will know how it handles and feels and you can make an informed decision about what you want to change to make it suit you better. I dont think you mentioned it but I would recommend a sling as well. Its just nice to have.
Yeah, it seems like honestly the best option for mounting an optic. I'll definitely grab a sling, probably a cheap one to start with, but if I feel the need to get a nicer one I will
WBP Fox has the beryl rear trunnion tab for the beryl rail, it’ll interfere with some stocks.
WBP Jack doesn’t have that tab.
Yeah, I know, I would be into getting a Beryl rail, do you know how it compares to a side-mounted optic performance-wise? Will it maintain zero better? Should I get something else if I'm not just an AK purist?
The beryl rail locks in pretty tight, but it elevates whatever optic you’re putting on it vs. a side rail that can hug the dust cover closer. It also alters the profile/look of the AK, if aesthetics bugs you.
honestly I was wanting to maybe get the Fox because the side optic aesthetically bothers me more than the rail for some reason.
you want a good AK ? Arsenal and zastava, keep in mind Arsenal AK are compatible with whatever you can find on the market, Zastava have a different size for their handguard so you'll have to either make the modification yourself or find compatible parts for it
don't bother with modern Galils they are all shit
What are your thoughts on WBP vs Zastava?
are you euro ?
Arsenal can be hard to find here so WBP is acceptable, on par with zastava
don't even bother with SDM it's chink shit, unless you want their SVD but even if they changed the barrel to fire more common 54r ammo the gun itself will punch you to shit if you feed it 180gr ammo
Im not euro lol but i like euro guns more generally
what can I say I'm a hipster I own a CZ 75
CZ75 isn't a hipster gun, it's one of a few choices for a good metal frame handgun. The polymer CZs are the Czoyboy meme ones.
All my homies that conceal carry give me shit for getting the cz75 sp01 but fuck em i love it
That being said its a little too big for CC
Get a FAL. I have a ton of guns and shoot a lot. None are as good as the FAL. Light recoil big bullet heavy gun (it will make you aesthetic if you carry it enough).
This is a big heavy arcane gun, shitty sights and seems cobbled together. If you're going to get a battle rifle and want one with a steel receiver that can shoot steel case, get a G3 (PTR91). It's more accurate and better put together than an FAL, easier to find now too. If you want a gay aluminum receiver rifle that can only shoot brass get an AR10.
Yea its completely unreasonable but i must admit a swag firearm
dude trust me if i could find one for a good price id love to
Go on Akfiles market and buy an arsenal, a saiga conversion would also be good but it'll probably cost the same or more than an arsenal.

7.62x39 and 5.45x39 are dying in the US. Surplus is being ate by whales and the two moron countries duking it out. Russian ammo? IMPORT BANNED.
5.56 NATO is supreme
Yeah, I thought about getting a Beryl, or maybe a WBP jack in 5.56 but I think if it gets to the point where 7.62 is actually obsolete and/or too hard to get, I'll just get another rifle that shoots 5.56, maybe sell the Jack.
Why did the US drop 5.56 then? Meanwhile 7.62x39 is still the best urban/close woods round. Your intermediate set up shouldn't be your long range set up.
>buy once cry once
>wants an AK
You've successfully failed the easiest decision you could have possibly made you fucking moron
