I've settled on an MDRX in 308. Trigger is really decent and I'm overall very happy with it, they have had major QC issues in general but I'm not one of those bit (so far). Do you have any comparisons in usage?

          >if the MDRX can get 2moa id consider it in .308
It can, at least if you make sure DT didn't forget to actually put fucking loktite on a bunch of the screws for your fucking locking block bolts because their QC was shit. If they didn't just put it an and retorque but damn. It actually is apparently possible for it to do sub-moa though I've never done better then 1.8 and it's really picky about ammo for that. Under 2moa isn't as hard but again, I think it's pickier then actual "precision rifles". And some ammo is all the way up above 5moa. I think officially DT claims the target is 2-3 with 1-2 "reasonably feasible" but it's not really a precision gun per se.

If you want to see an absolutely utterly exhaustive report on fucking everything with more info then most would ever want you can read:
that page has one of the ammo tested list, you can see a single one managed sub, a reasonably handful was 1-2, quite a bit 2-3, and then some stuff just fucking awful. So if you get it really have to test.

I think it might be worth waiting until next year though honestly and see if they do a gen3 like rumored. They've also been doing a lot of work on finally investing in and improving their archaic QC which didn't scale from when they were a young startup.

Anyway here is an old picture of mine in its silly autism config without can or some other stuff since when I was first fucking around. It was meant to be more a simple fun thing but I ended up liking it a lot.

Called "Ryker Grips" and go along with that semi-elastic sling, they're a side forward grip. I originally thought they'd be gimmicky but since this was to be a fun experimental rifle went for it figuring could always change it, but the combo is actually surprisingly really good and comfortable/natural to use so I've kept them. Main downside is that it's not ambi so autism compelled me to put one on the other side and keep it symmetrical which is otherwise stupid. random video from way back when they first came out if you want to see it in actual action:

wouldn't recommend it for everyone same as wouldn't recommend anything I did for everyone or even most but I've enjoyed using something pretty different.

I've never seen or heard of these before, I wonder how something this weird slipped by me

It's a 0.9-1.5 moa rifle. That's the only reason I'm getting one. Lot of reviewers consistently shot within those numbers. Not bad for a semi auto let alone one with excellent features in such a compact package.

In my experience with it (backed by others fwiw) it will be extremely picky with ammo though to get to that and to maintain it unless it's a gun made in like the last few months you will almost certainly need to fix DT's fuckup on screws and secure/retorque them properly with red loktite.

I mean, I love the gun but the QC issues were definitely real, not universal but more than one would hope at that price tag.

How do you deal with normal guns, extended stock? LOP on mdrx is like 15" which is a solid 1.5" longer then a standard rifle, fits me well and is in the same range so I'd expect that part at least to be fine for anyone fine with a normal gun. Hellion is like 16-18", that's even farther. If even that is too short for you I assume you go custom somewhat?

It's weird. I mean, if this was a total boomer only place and nobody had touched a bullpup except for an unimproved 80s era Aug I could understand some lingering bad impressions but even then I'd expect some curiosity about what almost 40 years of improvements had brought. M16 and pretty much every regular rifle in existence took a lot of refinement too.

Most posters can't fathom spending more than $600 on a gun

The number of gucci ARs with glass alone worth far more than $600 means that doesn't really explain it on PrepHole. Though maybe that there is no real decent budget options is a factor, a lot of people with expensive fancy ARs probably started with cheap ones, maybe even Ship of Theseus'd a cheaper starting AR into a lot of spend over time.

Another thing is you're basically asking a truck owner to get a smaller truck. Not happening, he wants his guns as long (and black) as possible. Seriously there are dudes that bitch when others paint their guns, when there's really no practical reason to have a black gun. There's also no practical reason to have your gun be unnecessarily long when you could have the same barrel length in a more space efficient package.

This was my rifle, unfortunately had to sell it but it was picky with .223 anyway. I’m back on non-bullpups and honestly while I liked the MDRX I didn’t trust it to be anything but a range toy.

The guy that ended up with the carry handle put it on his X95, also very BR-55 adjacent. Unfortunately TriStar stopped selling the handle (from on of their shotguns) on its own because once I posted this MDRX online a bunch of people called them about it lol.

Haven't bought once because im having enough of a problem feeding my 10/22 with how tight things have been. Put a few magazines through one at the range i go to since i get a free rental. Shoots nice, safety is just odd. Just about everything about it tells you to flip it the opposite way that you need to very surprised there hasn't been some aftermarket parts to change that. Bolt release while awkward isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Since I was only using one mag i can't really tell you too much on the reload but it didn't feel weird when shouldered it before loading. I like it but its out of my range for a while

Bought one as my new truck defense gun. I friggin love it. Has almost no recoil, it hasn't jammed on me once, and I can actually move it around inside my semi without bumping into anything. I haven't noticed any half second delay to fire, but I have noticed there's like, a catch in the trigger halfway back, where it feels like you've pulled it, but you haven't. That might be what that Anon is talking about.

I can maneuver even 16" AR's and my 12.5" AK just fine in the cab, and plenty of police videos show them doing the same with their eyy arrs, making me think, in the most non-confrontational way possible, this is an imaginary problem.

I've held it in my LGS and the length of pull is really fucking long, even with the buttstock in the shortest position. This gun is clearly designed for 6.5' Croatian Chads (so not me), who won't care for the heavy weight either. The FAMAS is much more manlets friendly. The ergos are fine but the MDR ones are clearly better imo, except for the adjustable gas position above the barrel, which is neat. The plastic used is kind of ugly but it looks solid. The trigger is still mushy, better than the Aug but worse than a milspec AR obviously. At least it has a clean break. It's probably the closest to a FAMAS you can get right now, that's its main selling point.

Care to show groups ? Do you consider it MOA accurate or worse ?

      LOP literally doesnt matter

It makes the gun even heavier to hold when you're shooting standing. Not really an issue for a civilian, but it's kind of a big deal when you're a soldier who has to keep his gun at low ready for an extended period of time.

Bullpup center of mass is so far back compared to a standard rifle that it makes no fuckin difference.

I guess I'm too used to shoot ARs because the Hellion felt uncomfortable to hold because of that LOP.

          Anonymous

          Not true.
Most memepups other than the Tavor tend to balance around the pistol grip, most non-AK's tend to balance around the back or middle of the magwell, it's not "so far back", and if it were, like the Tavor, it causes more problems than you'd think, though, I think the Tavor is just hot shit in general, so other problems are more "apparent" than just the ass-heavy awkwardness (you don't keep rifles shouldered perfectly level 100% of the time), such as the piss-poor accuracy, gassiness, old problems with the accidental mag releases, and so on.
Also, if you have armor on, the shift is further away from your shoulder, so it's still not as "close" as you might think.

        Anonymous

        >trigger is "mushy"

You notrainings do know what a 2 stage trigger is vs a 1 stage trigger right? Wtf do you mean by mushy? Feels? The feeling of a trigger isn't going to throw your shots.

        >It makes the gun even heavier to hold when you're shooting standing
No it doesn't. Bullpup weight is behind your dominant hand so it's easy as hell to hold up for extended periods of time compared to conventional rifles. LOP is definitively a complete meme with modern shooting stances and body armor.

          Anonymous

Leverage/muscles doesn't work that way, it's more about it being closer to your shoulder than behind your wrist.
If something is trying to roll over the top of your wrist, it's harder to push it back down than it is to hold something pushing from under your palm.
Shoulder, not hand, that's more what people mean, even if it's still not important like they think it is.

            Anonymous

Your left shoulder will tire quicker with a M4 than your right shoulder with the LOP of a bullpup.
I'm a Bong and I find the C8 feels heavier than the L85 despite not being heavier due to the front heaviness. Not that either are heavy and anyone who complains about weight and it's not a GPMG is a massive pussy.

              Anonymous

Not necessarily, it's more about how you "mount" the gun and hold it, your sling, plus what you're specifically doing of course, etc. You're also putting more weight into one arm than two besides, think 80/20 instead of 60/40 or similar.
I also see people using bullpups more often rest the barrel on things than non-bullpups for whatever reason, and "rested" shooting is what most people will be doing MOST of the time anyways, but that's more of a "training" issue. (If Marines can learn to short-stock M16's in Fallujah, people can learn not to jam the barrel of their Tavor into concrete walls, for example. Or, at least, I'd hope so.)
But, I was more speaking about the "behind your hand" part of the post rather than the general practicality/utility/etc. of it.

I think he's talking about an electronic release to a conventional mechanical trigger, rather than electronic ignition.

I could only find two examples of electronic fire groups - one of which sends a charge to ignite the primer, and the other using a current to generate plasma.

Google "solenoid trigger". Its how you fire a gun when you can't access the trigger in a conventional layout (like in a tank or on a plane).

Electronic != wireless. A solenoid trigger would achieve the goal, but no one uses that for small arms because depending on a power supply to make gun go bang is not a good plan. Solenoid triggers are used in vehicles because they have a power supply anyways, and if they don't they're useless or nearly useless anyways.

Nobody uses it because it's not feasible to make an electrically controlled trigger that the ATF won't call a machine gun due to how easily it could be converted for that purpose.

I think that's why you don't really see the digi-trigger much anymore. They said they could make a """forced reset"""-esque model in passing once IIRC, and ATF sent the van immediately.
Speaking of, I hope the FRT lawsuit goes in RareBreed's favor, and soon. I'd love for them to get more developed like the "selectable" model they mentioned (that TommyTriggers already made before they did), or more models, like for AK's especially.

Holy shit anon. Electronic has zilch to do with wireless. Simple wires and circuits even inside shielding are frankly going to be more reliable then mechanical components. Like what fucking decade did you just wake up from? All modern military equipment and doctrine is based heavily on electronics.

Electronic != wireless. A solenoid trigger would achieve the goal, but no one uses that for small arms because depending on a power supply to make gun go bang is not a good plan. >but no one uses that for small arms because depending on a power supply to make gun go bang is not a good plan
No that's not why, it's just that tech wasn't there a few decades ago, the gun industry is conservative and there hasn't been any real driving need. The power is a non-issue, it takes very little so a single battery can go for ages and can be small and it'd be easy to do stuff like just integrate them into a magazine. Charge mag along with reloading it, all it needs is enough power to fire the solenoid the number of rounds the mag holds done.

Although a gun integrated battery (swappable obviously, just another "magazine") with a standard electronic rail would probably be a major improvement vs all the electronic devices we stick on guns each with their own battery. It'd be a lot more fundamentally efficient if they just pulled power from a central source rather then more and more separate batteries each with their own housings and all the other dead matter needed for them.

But again, there wasn't much point. Maybe with smartguns it'll become a thing though, just because if you're going to depend on power ANYWAY might as well squeeze the most out of it.

You posted an image primarily about wireless, and posited "interference" of some wireless kind. Given that we have sent electronics into gas giants, around the sun, through electromagnetic storms, run them inside nuclear reactors, use them in critical medical situations, and everywhere else like how fucking dumb can you be to not at least consider that perhaps this is a problem that has been long solved? Even if you're never heard of a "Faraday cage" or hardened circuits or the like? Like, basically aspect of a modern military is highly electronics dependent. High performance modern jets just won't work without computers, they're unflyable, and that's enormously more complex then a simple firing thing. If "EMI" was such a problem literally most of the modern world around you wouldn't work so you should have asked yourself why it does.

So what you propose is we take billions of dollars of R&D put into shielding billion dollar projects to protect from interference and somehow package that into an affordable firearm.
                >most of the modern world around you would work
Consumer electronics are very easily impacted by regular shit you can find driving down the highway already. Out of curiosity was the flow556 not out yet when you got it or did you have some other reason? OSS always has done quality stuff though. While I'm going with CGS for 30cal I think OSS is simply superior for 556.

            Anonymous

The flow only just came out recently so theres no way I would have gotten it i submitted the stamp info. I picked up the gen 2 with the flash hider part not too long after it came out. OSS is great if you want something that is less blowback/wear on your firearms. If you want something to be as quiet as possible they are not the best.

First that's too short even with subs and you wouldn't be saving anything really because of so much unburned powder, you've lost major sub performance and it's louder/flashier which a longer can would merely maybe negate. 8" is already 3.5" shorter than a Micron and complete burn or close would allow shorter can anyway particularly if integral since you can use asymmetric designs that are still effective (like my Maxim 9 is shorter with 4" barrel then typical equivalent 4" standalone + 9mm can).

That said second MDRX can't do that at all. Can't run 300bo even at Micron length, the gas system simply cannot adjust that much and have it run reliably. That's why they don't offer a Micron in anything but 556. Their are rumors of a dedicated Micron design next year though (as well as a gen 3 MDR), if so that'd be interesting.

12.5" Micron with 8.6bo is another interesting possibility.

Where did you gear the rumors about the gen3/dedicated micron design?

            >12.5" Micron with 8.6bo is another interesting possibility.
yeah that one kinda interesting cause mdr already built for 30cal supers. that means sbr micron kinda a heavy girl for [email protected]". but 8.6 would turn weakness to strength right? 12" barrel but much heavier round but gun already built for full power 308. mitebcool if 8.6 goes anywhere.

I know someone has turned their .308 MDR into an 8.6 with a custom barrel

              >The flow only just came out recently so theres no way I would have gotten it i submitted the stamp info.
Ah, can't be helped then. Can I've got coming is good but similar deal, there is something that might actually be better now and is much cheaper, but it only appeared in the 8 months (and counting) since starting F4, just another little irritation about the whole process.
              >If you want something to be as quiet as possible they are not the best.
Actually I think they unironically are the best now for 556. Not at other sizes but the flow is very impressive (AND compact on top). Competitive time right now.
              >Where did you gear the rumors about the gen3/dedicated micron design?
I'll see if I can find a video or something for you, it was as part of the conversation around DT doing a big mea culpa on their QC this past, March? Feb? April? Feels like this year has been so long. But they know about things like people really wanting a 300bo Micron, and have officially confirmed that the reason they don't is simply that they can't with the "current gas system". There are a number of little niggling things and stuff they've improved, same as with MDR. So a gen3 would probably be similar to gen2: rolling up a bunch of polishing and so on they've been doing on repairs over time. But they'll probably need a dedicated Micron design anyway to do 300bo, I might be wrong but I suspect complete modularity from 30cal [email protected]" all the way to 300bo subs at 8" (or even 11") along with full adjustable gas and everything else is just not really optimal. MDR has proven fairly popular from the sound of it, I think they could afford to split the line.

Though obviously it'd remove a nice little bit of legal QOL given the nature of American law which would stink. So I guess that's a factor too.

I wonder if Desert Tech could make like a 5.5" .300 blackout MDRX with an integral suppressor that would end up more or less with the same size as your normal micron? A rifle like that would end up significantly smaller than even the sig rattler with a suppressor. I'd think that at least law enforcement and so on would be interested in something like that because smol.

It’s sort of heavy in 5.56 but it’s less so if you compare it to other “ar18” rifles on the market, but compared to the scar 17 or the sr25 it’s much more competitive in the weight department.

Or maybe a lot of anons just stick it in its own category alongside PCCs, even vs 5.56 it's in a different lower category of performance. On the completely opposite side of the spectrum, don't see the GM6 Lynx (50bmg bullpup) come up often in these threads either, but I know for a fact at least one or two PrepHoleommandos have them, came up in a great thread around this time last year and one said he loved it, one of his favorite guns. But in terms of cost/size/performance it took is obviously in an entire different category from all the normal ones that get brought up. Both are wicked cool guns though.

it annoys me a little that more people have the latest zoom zoom FOTM novelty bullpup that will be forgotten in time instead of something more cool and timeless like an AUG, P90, F2000, Tavor, etc. i would include famas but i realize that's impossible to get anyways.

wat. Is there any such thing? Like what "novelty" one has happened even in the last few years? MDR is one of the newer ones and that's like 6 years old now. Bullpups are still relatively unpopular overall vs ARs and while yeah there are many more options it's still a niche and nothing like other guns. And a lot of us who have them are not interested in "cool" or "timeless" whatever the fuck that means, they're our actual primary rifle. Functionality is the point. And since bullpups have only gotten a fraction of the development of normal guns it makes sense there is more low hanging fruit. I have no particular issue with what you listed (except that the F2000 isn't even made anymore right?), but I don't think there's anything wrong with those interested in ongoing development either.

Holy shit, they make one in 6.5 sneedmoore. I'm gonna consoooooom right there with you anon

I'm gonna stick a thermal optic on there and have a fantastic time

Definite enjoy then. There are some neat accessories as well nowadays. Check that PDF I posted earlier though and make sure the gun you get doesn't have those screw issues. If it's a brand new MDRX then I think it's sorted, same with the charging handle, but make sure since it's an easy thing. And put a decent number of rounds through it first to shake it down before taking it out. If you get a normal good one it'll be solid, if there's any QC problems might as well discover them early.

5.7 is a touch rich for my blood for plinking but no doubt very fun. For HD yeah absolutely solid. But probably you're not pushing out to hundreds of yards either? Still a cool platform.

effective range on 5.7 is 200m, so kind of but ehh would want to. 100m and in is stellar

Sure and "effective range" on 5.56 is like 1000yd or something retarded according to the military, by which they mean it can theoretically cause debilitating injury (60 fpe I think is the threshold?). But not something generally expected to engage that far and for hunting one needs way way more to be ethical.

100yd sure though. And while in that range I'm sure lots would prefer 300bo subs those are a solid 20% more expensive then 5.7 even.

People who want really really short ARs and/or want to suppress things. Personally I don't see much utility in it. It's one of those things where people force an AR into a role it wasn't particularly designed for. Probably helps that a round with guns already engineered for it like 7.62x39 is a cluster fuck to get a good one in the states. If you want a short rifle, bullpup it so you can use non meme ammo.

5.56 suppresses like absolute shit. That's the reason for 300bo. Then people also decided to make supers with it because might as well, but the point was to have something out of an 8" barrel subsonic and effective to 100yd or so with good suppression characteristics. That's it. I don't actually use it myself, I just have 22, 9mm and 308 lol. But I've heard it with friends and it does work. 8.6bo that came up earlier in thread is basically "can we extend subsonic to 200-300yd?" I don't know if they can but that'd allow subs for basically any NA hunting at all short of weird edge cases like elk in the west or something.

Hah, I've given up the torch on that one. But it's interesting how the concept grabbed people and still gets brought up. Maybe someday.
