"Budget Gun" Is a Psyop

The term Budget Gun started being thrown around in retaliation to everyone with normal guns picking on people overpaying for meme brands and accessories back in 2008-2012 ish by calling them Gucci guns and Gucci gays. The industry then started running with this new retaliation term as a means to justify their new prices. Reminder, not Gucci is standard. Not "budget". In no real fricking universe is a REAL gun company that made firearms for 100+ years "budget" or not good enough. Don't let them make you feel bad for not falling for meme consumerism

The psyop here is that you perceive "budget" as a negative adjective. A budget product is a product to be proud of. Making something "budget" is both an engineering and logistics achievement. I love budget guns.

      This got me thinking
A modern day extremely budget rifle in a significant caliber.
Basically, what if Cobray Terminator, but in 5.56 and not a shit stock set up?

Still not as cheap or reliable as an AR-15 due to manufacturing scale

          >not as cheap
that can be argued, plus with modern materials and machining, I'm confident you could make one more affordable than something like an Aero lower, probably won't be PSAs price game but you could manage something.
As for the reliability part, yeeeeeaaaaahhh that's probably the straw to break the camels back.
Plus, open bolt single shot 5.56 probably wouldn't have the accuracy to make it worth it.

You're objectively wrong. If the majority has a standard set and someone comes out with a "pimp my ride" version that cost more. That just makes it extra. It doesn't make the standard "budget" all of the sudden...

Why are American gun owners so status focused?
Guns are tools and the raw utility value of being able to throw a metal object at my enemy is all i want. If it looks cool or has neat features it may sway me or make evoke cross shopping, but often I find myself grabbing the cheapest most rugged mass produced gun.

It's not just gun owners, it's pervasive in every hobby. Take fishing--some people have a rod or two and they don't really give a shit about the details. Other people go full nutzo, subscribe to fishing magazines, watch all the YT channels, and buy whatever new rod and reel they're shilling every 6 months. For others it's designer clothing or shoes. Perhaps its specs of their gaming PC or how fast they can speedrun SMB3. People love to dickmeasure petty shit, doesn't matter what it is. Guns are no exception for some people.

You're telling me the instagram thots showing off $5k shoes and $10k handbags or the diesel truck guys with $100k sunk in their rigs are somehow less consumerist than the average gun larper? And you expect me to believe that showing off expensive guns is somehow a uniquely American thing when museums across the world are packed with stuff like

guns have always been status symbols throughout history, and people with means purchased fancier ones, partly as a means of advertising their status or because it made them feel powerful. There's nothing new about this.

Not that anon, but a big part of what's wrong with the shooting community today vs conspicuous consumption in other aspects is that people regularly insist that all the bullshit they spend money on makes so much of a difference in performance that it could totally realistically make a difference between life and death in situations a normal person might ever find themselves in.

im telling you that the idea that a gun wont work unless you pay through the nose for it is unique to gun cucks yes. the guy that owns that boat and that truck likely doesnt think twice about a guy showing up to the boat ramp with a ford ranger and a bass boat

It has a lot to do with fragile egos. I gotta buy the biggest truck, the most expensive gun, have best computer, etc, etc. it’s not for them to use practically, it’s to show it off and have something, anything, to feel proud of.

I know that conspicuous consumption has been a fixture of gun culture since the 80s at least but it definitely has gone into overdrive in the past few years, with conspicuous consooming meant to show yourself off over nothing more than a fricking brand. It's womanly as all hell. Now if your weapon is truly a unique weapon, an NFA or an imported thing? Then yeah I get showcasing it. But if it's "Look at my milspec gucci-gang vutton AR15 that does the exact fricking same thing every milspec AR15 does just has a nicer rollermark at best" then you're doing the shit a woman does by showing some 4,000 dollar prada bag when to any untrained eye a 70 dollar chinese knockoff would look and function the same.

said, the rise of social media has led to a womanizing of men. I don't mean trooning (That too), I mean the womanly behavior of overly status-seeking combined with the autism of minmaxxing that infests every fricking hobby now. Fricking keyboards are boutique bespoked up now. Keyboards. As for social media there are people whose entire livelihood now is predicated on playing up these keeping up with the joneses. The level of shilling and grifting everybody's got to do now in everything drives a man insane. You have to mentally check whenever anyone is telling you anything to ask yourself Qui-bono? Because 75% of the time they are directly profiting from sponsorship or just have a vested interest in making you buy XYZ.

Who called your gun budget? What gun is it? There are very few gun companies that have retained their ownership and haven’t been bought up/redesigned in the past 100 years.

I hope you aren’t talking about Remington, Colt, Springfield or RIA. None of them are the same company they were 100 years ago during their golden days. There are good budget guns too, doesn’t mean it’s not a budget gun.

Missing the basis of the point. It's a shifting goal post type shit. If a new company started selling $10,000 ARs cuz new super coating and one off custom features, by your logic Daniel Defense now becomes a budget brand. The logic doesn't hold true. It's jus fanboyism and copes for what they had to pay. With ARs there are diminishing returns since all parts are interchangeable and most come from the same forgings....

The real psyop is PCCs, pistol caliber carbines. The most popular rifle in the entire country is the AR-15. That's an issue. What better way to neuter your armed population's home defense rifle than by turning into a big pistol? If it were by law, there would be a civil war, but people will happily neuter themselves and tell themselves that it's easier to control and easier to handle and doesn't "overpenetrate," when in reality it means the average gun owner is slowly turning their first-line defensive rifle into something that can't punch through anything even close to modern armor and will only wound on non-vital shots. Every company is shitting them out and marketing them as ideal home defense weapon, pushed by guntubers and know-nothings on forums exactly like this one. They're everywhere, and they'll tell you that you're being a bad gun owner by training with your guns. Who needs an AR or anything larger for home defense, bro? You're shooting at hallway distances, bro. Robbers don't wear body armor, bro. You'll kill your kids in the next room, bro! Your AR is for the range, bro. Also, don't do any sort of CQB training bro, that shit is so cringe and you'll never use it. Armor? NVGs? Thermals? You're not a soldier, bro. Who's coming for you, bro? Don't train in full kit with a rifle, bro, that's a total LARP and cringe. You need a supressor for it, bro. Don't worry about making yourself known directly to the ATF as a gunowner+ whose online activity should be monitored, bro, that's paranoia. Post guns, bro, specifically near identifiable personal items around your house. Paint them a unique shitty copy of your favorite vibrant COD skin. Now post them. Stop consooooooming equipment that's better than military grade gear. Stop consoooooooming the latest and greatest firearm technology. Now post them. Post them again, and again, so someone can confirm and track ownership of them and the ideological sentiments of the poster. Bro.

I think the only use of pccs is plinking with a cheap round while retaining rifle style controls. Not everything must be seen from a tactical lens.
