Combat boots are garbage. I had to wear black boots for work until recently when they started allowing sneaker style shoes and my $70 Nikes completely mog my $200 leather boots in every aspect.
What do you want your boot to do? What are terrain and weather like? Do you have a weight limit? How much do weight are you going to carry?
You will have to give more information if you want a decent answer.
Danish army ones, if you like classics. Two years ag bought them for an equivalent of 50$, held up very well. Although you need to break them in and use thick socks as they have no padding.

Lowas come with a 1-year manufacturer warranty. I send them in around 10 months and Lowa gives me a brand new pair.
They’re harder to waterproof, get damaged by mud, and are less durable than conventional boots. I don’t really see any advantage.
As for OPs original question, there are many different answers.
Generally in a very hot and wet area you don’t want gore tex boots because they’re going to get wet anyways, you want something that will both drain and dry quickly.
Most military boots are kinda garbage, they’re intended for mass production and are made to fit .mil standards that don’t really apply to the average consumer that needs a good boot.
There’s also the question of recraftable vs gloo’d soles. I prefer a recraftable sole, which means my boots are usually heavier and more expensive. I think it’s worth it though in the long run.
If you want a really good general purpose boot though, just get some Salomon Quests, they’re extremely popular and are of good quality. You can find them “waterproofed” or not.

They take 5 seconds to put on instead of five minutes and you can get your laces done just the right away one time instead of everyday.
If these are for daily wear, side zips are absolutely the way to go. They're not fragile, they don't turn your boot into a sieve and don't wear out any quicker than any other part of your boot unless you bought them at walmart >recraftable
that I agree with, make sure your soles are lugged and can be properly replaced.

You take 5 minutes to lace your boots? Are you moronic? is right. Besides, picrel makes side zip existence obsolete.
If your doing any serious work in your boots, surplus mil boot will destroy your feet. Get a good expensive pair of civilian hiking boots >but I poor
Well how much do you value your feet and spine? Spent the money, one thing you definitely should not cheap out on is your boots. Instead of buying another gun for $600 buy a $600 pair of boots. Your older self will thank you. If it's just for fashion then it doesn't matter, what ever you think looks nice.
New Docs fall apart fast. Some of the original workers in England started a new company, Solovair when Docs moved manufacturing to China. So if you want boots that are true to the original DM quality you can still get them but they're called Solovair now.
Boots are obsolete. Footwraps are back in.
Why would you want the worst footwear on earth?
Get good boots. As in new, well fitting, and worn in by your foot. Hiking/hunter boots are far better than standard issued boots beaten to frick
Going to go ahead and recommend Asolo's or Salomon's. Seconding what says, boots are just something you don't want to skimp on.
Only good ones are the swiss ones
Thanks for making a new thread instead of posting in qtddtot

I got these for $30 on ebay, pretty good condition and the leather was supple without creasing
Corvcoran or something

boots are terrible footwear. resist the boot meme.
they seem alright for snow and mud
but yea one has to be careful about ankle knee and hip injury
Just get Lowa Zephyrs, simple as.

Are side zips really that bad? I'm looking at pic related, I'm sure they can't possibly be that bad because they're Salomons.

or bates. they're perfectly acceptable.
I just like em bros, although their quality has been pretty bad as of late. I wore OTB Junglelites in the Army though and they were cash money
I got a pair of Docs a few weeks ago. They seem pretty solid. I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them. Mine have white laces for extra style points
