Boomer gun advice is killing me.

Grandfather (very wealthy) asked which gun he should buy as his first gun for home defense. I suggest the following...
>CMMG BANSHEE, MkGs, 9MM, 8"
>M300C SCOUT LIGHT
>UE-SR07 SCOUT LIGHT REMOTE SWITCH
>Trijicon SRO sight

Take him to the gun range
>Show him ease of use
>Show him effectiveness in small spaces
>Explain ammo capacity, reliability, etc...
>double taps targets easily out to 15yards, reloading like a champ, and mentions how light and easy to shoot the gun is.

He asked his boomer brother-in-law what he should get.
>JuSt GeT A ShOtGuN!!!
>YOU DON'T EVEN NEED TO AIM TO CLEAR OUT A ROOM!!!
>Buys Tac-13

The autistic rage I'm feeling right now is unreal.

Its anecdotal but I saw a guy get shot point blank in the eye with a .380 and he lived. But later saw a dude take a single .38 lead roundnose to his belly and die. Handguns are so unpredictable

People who have had their bodies hijacked by parasites and get shot in the gut tend to die (like stargate). At this point the proper drill would be gutshot, chestshot, headshot.

The very first question you should ask anyone that wants to know “What gun should I buy?” Is “How much money are you looking to spend?”

How is it dumb? I am the most "serious" and "put together" in my family and friend circle so they used to come to me to vent their bullshit and I put a stop to it fast because I hated listening to them, giving them advice, them completely ignoring it, then coming back to me for help.
I'm mostly still in contact with the ones that would do that, they just either listen to my advice now (mostly because they didn't listen the first ten times and i helped them out of whatever hole they dug) or don't vent to me.
Here's one example of an idiot that never once listened to me
        >bro i found this girl she's the best
        >that's nice dude
        >one year of him b***hing about her to me later
        >aaaa im going to leave her
        >good
        >she told me shes pregnant
        >get a dna test, leave her anyway and fight for your rights
        >nah im going to marry her 🙂
Ten years later a messy divorce happens, he didn't take my advice to stop smoking pot so his ex wife brings up his drug use in court and he loses his rights to the kid and his house. Also she cheated on him twice and he stayed with her despite me telling him to leave
        >nah bro you don't get it, you can't understand what i feel because you don't have a kid and you aren't married
Literally laughed in his face. He was right, I had not gotten cheated on by my wife twice so I couldn't understand.
        Anyway
        >tldr
It gets really annoying to have people vent and ask for advice then ignore it all. You need to be direct with people or they will just use and abuse you.

Obviously they have recoil but it's not unmanageable. If you're not braindead the problems with recoil are follow up shots and how your shoulder feels after a range day, not whether or not you can shoot without flying back twenty feet looney toons style. Every senior farmer I know can shoot 12 gauge with or without a stock. Everyone and their grandmother can learn to manage it to at least be somewhat effective.

Look anon, I'm not gonna say you're wrong because you're partially right. My SBR is the only rifle I own that would be considered modernized with an optic and a white light, which is why I had my dad use it because he was asking about modernized AR pattern rifles. He bought an A2 pattern because he did the smart thing and bought something he was already familiar with as a combat veteran. Given the layout of his house a 16" probably would have been more sensible, but after watching him do sprints for the first time in twenty years and still ring steel on the first shot at 400m with his A2, I'm not gonna say he made the wrong decision.

He doesnt need to clear rooms dude. He needs to protect a choke point or just shoot a guy in a hallway, after calling the cops or call them afterward. The cops will help clear the house and make sure everything is completely secure. He doesnt need to clear every nook and cranny. Burglars dont hide in the crawlspaces with AKS74Us waiting to ambush homeowners. They come in, look for the valuable stuff they can take easily and roll out. Holding a choke point and yelling out "get the frick out of my house I called the police" is the best move. If they come at you, shoot them. If they don't, they're running (most likely dropping anything that slows them down) and you saved yourself a nightmare in court. If they say frick you and stay the cops will nab their asses.

There's a funnel from the house to his bedroom hallway. that's the choke point. If he retreats into the bedroom, the angle into his room would require him to drop the gun to retreat. A simple shorter barrel would allow him to keep sites down range while retreating.

Solid advice though. You would probably understand better if you saw his house.

How in the hell would he be required to drop the gun? Bring it into his body like a modified present arms position. If he can fit the gun can fit. I've cleared all kinds of shitshow houses when I worked for the PD and was on the part time SWAT unit. I used a 18" 870 since thats what my cheap ass dept would let me use, despite having a better shotgun at home. Having seen two people killed with a 12g I can tell you one shot is pretty damn effective. Thats two homicides, didnt count suicides which were truly a spectacular mess with a shotgun.

Move back into the room and hold the inside of that corner if he cant get his tac-13 up to hold that one. If anything the shotgun will be even more effective in the shorter hallway. Also get him a brace for the tac13 for christmas and a light and he's frickin set.

The idea that you’ll never have to clear rooms is kind of unimaginative.
My dog figured out how to fricking open doors (we have the pull down lever ones so she just hops up and uses her weight to pull it down) , so if one of my family members forgets/doesn’t lock the doors sometimes she’ll open it on her own and get out. Every once in a while we’ll come back and a door will be open. I’m not gonna call the fricking cops just cause I come back home and the back doors open, but I will clear the rooms in my house real quick.
This is just one example in my life I’ve had to clear a room. It takes no time and id rather be safe than sorry.

                Kek, yeah, I agree.

Okay, his grandpa isnt getting a carry gun. So he'd have to run through the unsecured house to retrieve his HD weapon and then clear it in that scenario. Plenty of people call the cops if the back door is open on their house. Like I used to get that call once a week. Sometimes their house had been burglarized, sometimes it was nothing. If you have a carry pistol I get it, but if not its a reasonable reaction

Sorry I wasn’t talking about OP’s specific scenario, I sidetracked about room clearing.

Change the lever style to a door knob.

Good idea, it’s not my fricking house tho.

Your dog is a week link in your security status. Get rid of it.

We have two dogs, both are big dogs and are good for security. The only issue is when we come back we’re not sure if they’ve gotten out, or if someone is there they could’ve just shot them while we where out.
This is just my specific scenario but I’m just saying room clearing may be a necessity at some point. Especially if you have family members or a wife/gf. You should avoid room clearing at all costs, but still be able to do it. Maybe I’m just being autistic and enjoying myself, but I’d rather be safe than sorry.
