Title. I've seen Vatniks claim that Abrams turrets can be thrown off from ammo detonation. I believe this to be patently false.
Only cases I've seen of Abrams turrets being legitimately thrown is when several artillery shells were detonated right below it. And by thrown, I mean detached and landed on the rear of the tank. Did not even travel 5 meters.
If the Abrams has Ammo stored in its hull (which no nation that operates them does) and said ammo is set off, then yes the turret of an Abrams can be thrown.
But that's a monkey model.
It has been covered before sheesh.
1) Massive IED overcoming the weight of the turret, which is retained via gravity on the hull
2) Blown up with excessive explosives internally, AFTER the tank was disabled/captured
> retained by gravity
if the tank was at an angle going up a hill and a blast or hit occurred could the turret be unseated and disabled without destroying the tank?
that anon is a fucking retard. you can see in abrams assembly videos where they bolt the turret to the hull
Do you think a few bolts could retain a 15~ tons turret if a tank is violently overturned?
Are they riveted bolts?
>Massive IED
Like the ones that the West is using in Ukraine now
Like the ones that cost sixty bucks to make and destroy an entire Abrams tank
They are just anti-tank mines really like the ones being used right now
>made of several arty shells
>60 bucks
Where can I buy one of those anon?
Well you have to go out into the countryside and dig up some UXO left by the Americans (or even the Soviets) and then wire them up to a Nokia.
No. Those were 1000-2000 pound IEDs. A normal AT mine is about 15-20lb HE.
>big IED makes turret pops off
Gee, qho would have known that a pressure from an IED would result in a turret toss. Fuck off dennis.
>a shitty IED can blow straight through Abrams tank armor
lmfao
>a shitty IED
A shitty IED wouldn't.
A big enough ied would rip a tank like a coke can.
If the explosive force is enough to literally throw a 70 ton main battle tank into the air, it's not a shitty IED.
A shitty IED would not. Do you understand the makinga of an IED? It can range from explosives that can barely penetrate through a tank to a cocktail of explosives and shells that can send a vehicle flying in the air. IEDs in iraq were made up of shells that were used by the iraqi army. But a cocktail of multiple 155mm shells and other anti tank weaponry would turret toss any tank if its been hit at the belly. The belly of the tank is the most vulnerable spot.
there's a video of abrams driving over an 155 the moment it was set off and pulling a sick wheelie.
There's also a video of a t72 taking a hit from an obsolete atgm straight into state-of-the-art-no-western-equvilent kontakt ERA and killing its entire crew in a microsecond.
All tanks can easily be destroyed. Fucking t14 will fold to a well placed LAW. I'ts just western ones tend to value the crew a bit more.
But it's fine since your russian lives matter to literally nobody.
to be fair there was no guarantee that era had any guts inside of it to begin with.
K5 era is from the 90's.
Cope moron.
Video of a T90 taking a hit to relikt side skirt and survived.
Relikt didnt seem to help the First destroyed T90M to be carl gustave'd
Monkey model.
>The Marina Americanus awakes from his slumber to find that his home has been destroyed while he was hibernating. As he stands up, we will soon observe him be his usual self. The disgruntled member of the Forcus Americanus family tree will now go into his hunting mode, usually called "Being absolutely pissed". He will scavenge the area for a sixpack of cheap beer and possibly a Hustler's Magazine.
The mechanics of a tank entering the turret throwing olympics don't work with the Abrams ammo stowage arrangement. The only way to blow the top off of one would be to either pack the crew compartment full of explosives or detonate a fuckhueg IED directly beneath it that causes the turret to detach while the tank is flying
This is exactly what I was thinking. Just another Vatnik coping mechanism.
Thank you all for the input, I am thoroughly remoralized.
