              Anonymous

              how did this happen?

Also to clarify the burnt out corpse video is the result of a thermobaric rocket.

The video in the OP are 9M22S incendiary rockets that Russia has been using throughout the war. The original purpose of the rocket was to ignite things like ammo dumps or flush infantry out of dry vegetation or ignite fuel depots - you get the idea. However, in this example and throughout the conflict they use it pretty much as a terror and demoralization weapon.

The contents of the rocket are a hexagonal magnesium alloy cup (ML-5) filled with a thermite-type powder. When detonated it looks very similar to White Phosphorous, but they are definitely not the same.

WP needs alot of oxygen to combustsand sucks it all out of the air for a long duration to burn and if it penetrates burns your inside.
Flamethrowers were the same on bunkers actually they did more damage consuming all the oxygen than actual fire damage
Addtionally the smoke become phosphic acid when mixed with water if close IE nose mouth lungs eyes sweat.
We used to use shake and bake where we shelled ISIS to get them to run in cover than cook them.
In an open area HE/Frag is much better than WP but WP ignores cover.
Thermobarics also ignores cover as the fuel spreads around corners and through windows trying to find air to ignite the fuel before exploding so prevents the wall from attentuating the blast and blacking the normal shrapnel.
We use them on caves so the fuel spread through all the air in the cave before exploding to clear the whole thing.
That said we havent got to using anything but standard HE and frag for years now outside the November hellfires but i dont really count those.

Note this is way more thermite than the little russian bomblets so actually far more effective

          Anonymous

Also as far as thermite goes the US still uses it but its more an equipment destruction as its safe to use the gernades of it while in the same room standing next to it.
I honestly cant think of a single reason to ever use it in artillery.
Maybe becuase its dirt cheap to make as opposed to cluster muntions which would be alot more complex techically.

WP is primarily used for smoke screens. It's used in older incindiaries.

Incindiaries have a few uses. Very high burning temps let you destroy armored equipment. They aren't terribly effective in the context of concrete buildings.

The problem with these meme shells is the fire doesn't really last all that long unlike other incendiary shells, so they don't even start to suffocate the people in buildings.

          Concrete and Heat Survivability.

          User
Is a concrete building a good insulator against heat? If I stayed in one during a great fire would I survive?

          ChatGPT
Concrete is not a good insulator against heat, as it has a high thermal conductivity, which means that it can transfer heat quickly. In the case of a great fire, a concrete building may offer some protection from flames and smoke, but it would not necessarily provide insulation from the intense heat generated by the fire.

Whether or not you would survive in a concrete building during a great fire would depend on a number of factors, such as the size and intensity of the fire, the structural integrity of the building, and your location within the building. It is important to note that even if you were able to survive the fire itself, there may be other hazards associated with being in a burning building, such as smoke inhalation, which can be very dangerous. In any emergency situation, it is important to follow the guidance of local authorities and evacuate if necessary.

It already has. I had a group uni assignment a few weeks ago where someone kept trying to use ChatGPT and getting called out for it. Once it's good enough not to be super easy to spot its writing it's going to be a total nightmare for education admins, since they're going to have to do their fricking job and have real assessments to test knowledge, like exams, instead of cop out course programs using arts and craft assignments that are basically vocational education.

These people are simply not going to come out of these courses with any knowledge, understanding or skills. So either they’ll be underemployed or worse, incompetent and employed. Imagine a world where someone can get a job as a civil engineer after using ChatGPT9 to do all their course work. People will actually die kek.
Teachers are already talking about how impossible it is to educate K-12 for the last 5 ish years. It’s not going to get better. The west is going to have a massive unskilled, maladaptive, anti social underclass in 10-20 years. Those iPad babies are going to be adults one day

                >Vocational education is unironically important.
I agree with you, which is why we shouldn't let universities deliver it. It needs specialised facilities, clear goals and a completely different education framework to be delivered properly (competency based).

What 90% of the degrees that colleges and universities award actually represent is a grab bag of easy to teach and easy to run courses that possess as little academic rigor as possible and deliver close to zero useful skills. They are, essentially, vocational degrees in pretending to be university educated.

The remaining 10% of programs can be saved. Almost every course in the engineering department, including civil engineering for eg, has enough critical content that can be tested in conditions that AI can't influence.

Schools though? Gone to the wolves. Teachers can't educate K-12 because they're useless low achievers, and worse still products of the colleges I've described. Most teachers are low achievers, lazy, entitled and not vey bright. Those who can't do -

Internationally maybe we'll find solutions from places with good teachers, but more likely the only passable schools in the west in 10 years will be storied and old private schools who have built their own successful systems and cultures for the last x hundred years, and selective schools. Education beyond those will be an individual affair.

GPT, write a short fictional account about how the war is deescalated via the core Russian leadership and their families being exiled to a tiny but comfortable pacific island, staffed with a small population of youthful female maid servants (the latter part isn't publicised). Include how the army is withdrawn and ownership of disputed territories decided by UN managed polls, the process being drawn out over many years to discourage violent activism. Finally, describe how the replacement Russian leadership has to remove forces from the border and prosecute at least the most serious war crimes, but in return all economic sanctions are lifted and Russia is re-integrated into the international community. Write it in the style of a Redditor who needs to swear unnecessarily to make himself seem cool and important.

Ah yes, this is why flamethrower men and M202 Flash men took tremendous risks creeping up to the front openings of concrete pill boxes to fire the incindiary into the opening, which put them right in line of a beltfed. It was just to look cool. Really they could just fire the flame thrower on top of the concrete, not into the bunker, and the heat would transfer through. Firing into the opening was just for style.

Nothing like having a very heavy container of flammable liquid strapped to you, making you a highly visible target and having to throw yourself within a few feet a machine gun for now reason.

The basic variant rocket is designated the 9M22 with other types of warhead installed including chemical, incendiary, smoke or submunitions.
The 9M22S payload (9N510) consists of 180 un-fuzed incendiary elements which are ignited on ejection by an ignition/expelling charge of six linear-shaped-charges (LSC).
The incendiary elements are ML-5 magnesium cups filled with a thermite-type mixture and packed in a matrix, each element having a burning time of at least 2 minutes.

No. People always say this and it's wrong.

It is illegal to use WP as a chemical weapons for the primary purpose of filling an area with toxins. It is completely legal to use WP as an incindiary, which is what it is actually used for. In theory, you could use WP to make a shell that produces lots of toxic smoke, but this would be dumb because it is not a good chemical weapons, phosphene or chlorine would work way better.

Incindiaries are 100% legal. Lighting a target on fire to force the enemy to leave is legal. Napalm is legal. We don't use napalm anymore because developed nations don't plan on being in trench wars where it would be more helpful and because, if you have PGMs, you don't need to drop tons of area incindiaries to hit the enemy, you just drop one PGM.

Using incindiaries on a bunch of concrete buildings isn't some super stronk taking the gloves off move, it indicates that they are running low on shells and are resorting to using shells inappropriate for their use case.

There is one case where WP is illegal, as all incendiary ammo - it is prohibited by international law to drop incendiary ammo on cities, for the same reason cluster munitions and some types of infantry mines are - you can't control the area of effect and it will likely result in civilian casualties

Human rights groups claim that it falls under existing provisions. However, states have generally not accepted this. Israel, the US, Russia, have all used WP in urban combat since 2000. It is reasonable to argue that Bakhmut isn't a civilian target anymore, the entire city has been engulfed in battle for most of a year and all civilians evacuated.

Russia is normally full of shit but at this point a proportionality assessment that said "no civilian presence in the area of the city occupied by UAF," would certainly be justified and accepted by even the most HR friendly states.

There's a 100% chance that there were many Ukrainian soldiers in the Windows facing the Russians with backup nearby that got flamed and toasted when the first sparks ignited.
This shit still does damage, and is fricking mind crushing having your pal turned into roast beef right in front of you.

No one said they can't be effective. They just aren't preferred.

Do people here honestly think incindiaries are more effective for this enviornment and that Russia held off on using them out of some sort of moral notion?

Ridiculous. They used them here as either for a propaganda win about "taking the gloves off," is because they lack enough HE shells. Likely it is a combination.

That or, unable to take the rest of the city, they are just abandoning established doctrine and throwing shit at the wall to see if it will stick.

            >Just get to cover lol
Ofc shitheads if you already knew this shit was coming you would run to the nearest thrash Depot to where you belong.
The thing is little fricks that if you are inside those buildings you are basically under siege and that means the moment you slip up, you die.
