Spoon feed me some good handguns to take with me on hikes in the mountains that would be adequate enough to protect me against a bear if a precarious situation were to arise

Thank you for the non-meme answers, I appreciate it
Bring your AA-12 or CIWS and you should be good
>CIWS
How do you bring CIWS into the woods? Every time I do this it becomes C-RAM. Does anyone else have this problem?
i've done guided fishing vacays on the Kenai for many years. ALL the guides carry 12 guage pumpers with slugs. Dipshit tourists like me carry 8lb .454 Casulls...
>it's another bears require a cannon of a gun to stop and are totally a threat across the country rather than an absolute minuscule area outside Alaska thread
Black bears break into homes and occasionally kill people where I am that isn't Alaska. Killed and partially ate some woman very close to me earlier this summer.

Was that the stupid hippie who was cited for feeding them in her yard and kept doing it?
The best defense is not being a moron. Sorry OP

Just carry an AK.
Remington 870 loaded with slugs
>black bears
nothing, theyre just big puppies
>brown, grizzlies
12g slug or any rifle round thats starts with a 7.
The bear spray is safe and effective.
Bear spray is better for break ins from humans while also being armed with a real gun. I carry both innawoods
>using spray indoors
Nah
.45 ACP hardball has been taking care of the bear issue for a long long time. In case of griz, 45-70 or 12 gauge hard cast slugs are indicated.
anything 9mm or larger is fine if you use good ammo
I don't know, op, but what I do know is that terminal ballistics is important. A lot of self defense rounds have hollowpoints that work well when shooting center mass at a human but expand too quickly to reach vitals in large predators. I'd look at soft points over hollowpoints, and at least give due diligence to researching whatever caliber you choose to make sure some higher penetration stuff is available.

I would take at least 45 acp or 10 mm but Desert Eagle or a powerful revolver would be more efficient.
