Best caliber for a SBR?

223/556 is moronic in a short barrel. It looses too much velocity for a velocity dependent round and all the unburnt powder creates a ridiculous fireball and shockwave that damages your hearing and annoys everyone around you.

    7.5 FK
There are no guns besides the FK BRNO and PSD that shoot this, but there should be. It's the maximum performance you can realistically get out of a grip fed magazine.

5.7x28, you can get either a SBR'd AR that takes P90 mags, the ps90, or rugers new carbine

7.62x39mm has pretty similar ballistics to 300 blk, definitely getting more bang for your buck.
I bet 350 legend would do pretty good, but I haven't seen any ballistic data for it.

      This

7.62x39 is the poor man's 300 Blackout. An underfolder with a short barrel would be pretty small and handy.

.458 SOCOM would be in the same vein.

It's already been said but 300blk and 8.6blk were developed specifically for short barrels (and suppression).
I'd say 7.62x39 if you already had the ammo, but if you're just now beginning the investment process, I wouldn't. I'd go with 8.6.
Then I'd invest in thermals and go hog hunting

Depends on your purpose, but I’ve wanted to build a 350 Legend pistol for hunting for a while. Easily suppressed if I want to get a tax stamp, and image attached shows why I think it would work well in a shorty.

Heavy grain 5.56 is actually quite good but if that still not your thing or you want to go shorter than 12/11 inches, 300 memeout or x39 are next best thing

If you're going short barrel, you should get the biggest caliber you can find behind the smallest case you will accept. .350 legend, 9x39, .45 raptor, etc. (This is precluding special uses such as suppression or magnum rifles)

7.62x39 is pretty good from a shorter barrel, as is .300 blk, but neither is a medium bore, much less a big bore. Big bores like .450 bushmaster use large cases that rob capacity, if that matters to you, and have substantial recoil. Medium bores make the most sense for practical purposes in my eyes, being a...happy medium, but a lot of people try to min-max, so medium bores are slept on unless you're talking about 9mm, .338 WinMag, .375 H&H, and perhaps a few others.

Honestly for a intermediate rifle 7.62x39 is a really good choice. But what the frick is .45 raptor?

    .458 SOCOM
