Best Ammo

What ammo do you prefer and why? I've never had a malfunction in any of my guns. I'm going to fire through 10 different types this weekend to see if there's any difference.

The Sellier&Bellot does seem the highest quality. Cleanest brass, most compact package/ammo tray, doesn't leave as much lead on your fingers, and sealed primers.

    9mm FMJ 124gr. 115gr is also fine.
    Works everytime.

Idunno how much it really matters, and I've got guns of several calibers that have never shot the same brand through them. Only 2 of my guns have ever mis-fed. But having said that, as a general rule I tend to prefer Federal for standard common calibers. For the rarer calibers I use S&B, never had a problem and they do seem high quality. For anything 7x62x39, literally anything steel case, doesn't seem to matter. It all stinks and cycles perfectly through my SKS and Saiga.

Why does Buffalo Bore charge $26 to ship 20 rounds when Lucky Gunner charges like $16 to ship 50 rounds?

For old fricks who find luckygunner and wonder if it's legit but are too fricking stupid to google search and find out so they order "direct from" and when they eventually run into problems they will say "I always order direct from the company" to customer support as if their own stock isn't frick all old because and barely sells and the shit they send out to real retailers is the good shit.... 100% they are still buying original spec .45 ACP too.

      ONLY BUY UNDERWOOD AND MAGTECH

Because it's easier from a logistics perspective to send several pallets to a distributer than a box via UPS. Different business optimize for efficiency at certain scales. An online retailer will be better at retail than a manufacturer that also sells direct on the side.

Also Fiocchi if it's 9mm because who cares, also @OP, MAGTECH owns Sellier & Bellot, they are just produced in different places, and MAGTECH is basically always hotter for about the same price, sometimes less.

You're moronic. "Hotter" ammo is not always a good thing. In many cases, like with semi-autos, it's a bad thing and can cause misfeeds.

I stick with Federal products for handgun ammo.
    Cheapest:
    >115gr or 124gr Blazer
    Match:
    >150gr Syntech
    Defense:
    >147gr HST

    I only buy 124gr Belom.
$300 for a case of 1000 rounds local and I've shot over 4000 rounds with no failures.

Random comment but it honestly boggles my mind when some manufacturers don’t put the caliber on the front of the box. I get that on shelves it’s on the side facing out but hell some shops have them facing up and it drives me crazy they don’t have the caliber and grain(ie the only possible thing I need to read) on the front of the bloody box.

Isn't S&B super cheap? How do they get away with being one of the cheapest brands AND beating out shit like Federal?

S&B is foreign made, likely very cheap labor compared to Federal.
I'm not knocking it though, I've always found it to be good ammo. Prvi Partizan is good too.

S&B typically has harder primers, even with new ammo. I've broken a firing pin on their .32 before. But other than that they are fine.

Depends on what the ammo is for.

    >precision rifles
    Federal GMM, Lapua, handloads

    >just plinking with handguns
    Whatever, doesn't really matter

    >skeet/trap/5-stand/sporting clays
Remington STS is my favorite, followed by Winchester AA

    >defensive handgun
Speer Gold Dot, Hornady Critical Defense, or Federal Ranger HST.

    >big bore handguns
Magtech is great value for money, performs well for hunting too.

      >or Federal Ranger HST.
      What?
You mean Winchester Ranger T AND Federal HST, right? Btw I carry both of these in every caliber I own for defensive use. Both reliable and fricking fantastic.

I agree that Sellier&Bellot feels higher quality than a lot of other range ammo and yeah, no idea why S&B is able to package 50 rounds in a nice compact box but Blazer and Federal have to use those Xbox hueg trays and boxes.

For 9mm I run whatever is cheap but I do always try and stick with 124 grain even for range use, because I buy my defensive 9mm loads in 124 and I want the recoil impulse to feel the same if I ever have to use it. Train like you fight and all that.

For .22 I like Remington Gold Box stuff because they don't have an exposed lead nose. Federal bulk stuff does but I'll still buy it from time to time if I'm feeling cheap.

For handgun ammo, all the big brands are about the same in regard to reliability. "Clean burning" is a meme that boomers fall for. There is no difference in how dirty your gun gets. I think that a lot of boomers shoot snub nose revolvers and mistake unburned powder in the barrel for "dirt," and randomly attribute cleanness of burning to certain types of ammo. If you find a brand that misfires too much for comfort, stop buying it.

With rimfire ammo, IME, there is a big difference in reliability, but it depends on your gun. Some guns will only feed brand X while other guns feed anything and still others feed brand Y and Z only. I have a Buck Mark that feeds Federal Automatch, but chokes on CCI Minimag, but with my 10/22, it's the opposite.

I would love to speak out my ass about rifle ammo, but I don't shoot enough rifle ammo with magnification to say much about accuracy except to echo the reliability comment I made about handgun ammo. It's all about the same reliability.

S&B is just really consistent good quality ammo. They don't have the fancy loads like black hills 77 gr or the most hi tech self defense pistol loads. But I've never, and I mean never had a squib, ftf, fte etc. With their 55 grain 5.56 or with their 9mm jhp and fmj ammo. I'll use other manufacturers in my hunting guns and my revolvers but it's the only ammo I'll use in my 9 and my AR because it's just that reliable.

Who makes good rimfire ammo? Most of the bulk box stuff is hit or miss regardless of brand.

Federal - good, but I had some bad boxes of automatch
Remington thunderbolt - runs good but extremely dirty
Aguila - good, but never tried it through any of my autoloaders
CCI - just tried some minimags for the first time and they're the best quality by far
Armacor - haven't tried yet but it comes neatly packed in tiny boxes perfect for pocket carry

    Best ammo for what purpose?
    >hunting
Brenneke TIG for everything, TAG for lead free

    >plinking
    GECO

    >competition
    RWS

For plinking with my 9mm I just grab Federal or Blazer. One time I had a couple of cases getting stuck in the slide while ejecting with Federal but it might’ve just been a bad batch, hopefully. I did buy like 17 boxes of some German made brand which is apparently high quality, but I figure for drills and general range shooting, the shittier the ammo, the more experience I’ll get. Only problem is that I’m an HK gay so I need some REALLY shitty ammo
