Battle of Mogadishu 1993

So /k/. Its been 29 years already when mighty American forces got defeated by rag-tag Somali freedom fighters. So..

>What went wrong?
>How come American so-called "elite" Ranger and Delta got their ass kicked that they're begging third-world Pakistan soldiers to save them?
>Why America didn't even thanked or even acknowledge the truth that Pakistan and valiant Pakistan soldiers only solely responsible of rescuing American during the battle?
>Does American ever learn this shameful lesson? What did they learn to prevent another "Mogadishu Defeat" in near future?

Same thing that's happening right now. Ukrainians are the ones kicking ass but American reddit morons act like it's their victory.

If America had given up on rescuing the pilot and the bodies they wouldn't have needed the Pakistani column at all. In fact the Pakistanis didn't even want to go at first because they couldn't understand the concept of no one gets left behind and thought the Americans were insane

I don't care enough to explain in detail, but I use to kit my squad out on Wildlands to look like a mixed bag of Delta and Rangers.

Vietnam was a weird cluster frick, the US didn't want to push into North Vietnam to extract aircrews because they didn't want a repeat of Korea. Add to that the fact that we didn't know which airmen we're actually still alive until they were shown in propaganda pieces or a recovered POW could confirm their status. I would have hated to be involved with anything that has to do with MIAs and POWs in Vietnam.

19 dead USA vs 2200 dead Skinnies
          >Asses kicked

That's not a good reflection of the events considering that a bunch of "skinnies" took down multiple helicopters which sent the UN presence into a panic started by the lead of the US.

The rest of this thread is full of morons so let's just talk about our loadouts on Wildlands.

What is the actual point of this post?

Like, the US should have stayed in Somalia even though they clearly couldn't achieve the humanitarian mission they were there to do?

The entire US mission there was intended to relieve a famine, why would we stay there if the starving people are shooting at us? What benefit does that bring? They "won" by convincing us that helping them wouldn't be worth the effort.

exchange ratio is a valid way of determining tactical efficiency
tactics is about maximizing enemy losses while minimizing friendly losses

its usually taken for granted that the victor will take less losses than the loser, since if it takes you 3 losses to inflict 1 loss on your enemy you werent going to win to begin with unless you outnumber them 5:1
so cases where small units can inflict massive losses on the enemy even in defeat, that is usually highly unusual at the least

Because they are not bullet proof, and their inflated ego think they are.

    Burgers are ungrateful bastards
    >>Does American ever learn this shameful lesson? What did they learn to prevent another "Mogadishu Defeat" in near future?

    >get into gun battle with an entire city
    >kill half of them, take 19 dead and a few dozen injured
    >leave country
    >half of them starve to death because the entire reason your troops were there was to prevent the country from starving to death

It makes sense that complete losers would idolize the Somalis in this situation.

does anybody make a decent colt 727 style upper thats 14.5 inches?
Ive been holding out for TNTE but theyre always out of stock and ive heard mixed things about their wait time.

Im thinking about either getting a 16 inch and calling it a day, or getting a regular m4 upper and swapping the handguard

What went wrong is that command got antsy and decided to conduct a day time air assault raid on the X in a major city with armed militant groups that they had pissed off with earlier raids. They knew the population had turned hostile.

    >October 3, 1993
    >Sgt. Matthew Eversmann leads his Rangers through the streets of Mogadishu
    >only minutes earlier, Black Hawk helicopter Super 61 was hit by an RPG and crashed several blocks away
    >only one thing runs through his mind - his chalk has to reach the crash site before the mobs of angry Somalis do, but also stay alive
    >as they make their way down the deserted street, eerie quiet gives way to the sound of something electrical, like thunder, but far more localized
    >a sinking feeling shoots through Eversmann that things are about to go from bad - to worse
    >as they near the end of the street, Waddell peeks his head around the corner, trusty M249 at the ready
    >he turns his head and almost whispers "Sarge, gotta see this"
    >ever so cautiously, Eversmann moves up and peaks his head around the corner beside Waddell
    >just around the corner are a group of 5-10 Somalis with AKMs at the read and a Jeep with a .50 cal pointed right at them
    >but that isn't what's getting their attention
    >in the middle of the street is young girl, no older than 16, skin as white as milk, hair as dark as a Black Hawk helicopter, eyes as blue as the ocean, and nine months pregnant
    >her clothes make her seem even more out of place, they're antiquated, looking like something out of a history book
    >a distinctive yellow star is sewn to her jacket, her only possession, a little notebook, gripped tightly with her delicate hand
    >she looks around, scared, and just as confused as everyone else
    >suddenly, Eversmann feels someone breathing down his neck, Cpl. Smith, his M203 already loaded, popped behind him to see what the fuss was all about
    >ever the one to speak his mind, Smith says what's on everyone's mind, "Holy shit dude. Is that like... Anne Frank?"

What happens next? What tactical advantage does a nine month pregnant israeli girl who can't even speak any of the languages everyone else is speaking suddenly appearing in the middle of the Battle of Mogadishu present to Task Force Ranger?

Then we had to sit through 30 more years of this shit-headery before somebody high up figured out all the units had become drunken Rambo-wannabees
