The ballistic missiles with hypersonic glide warheads are somewhat neat, but not really groundbreaking.

The HAWC/HACM stuff is more interesting, a hypersonic cruise missile, while slower, doesn't have to take a ballistic trajectory. Though it'll be in development for at least another ~5-10 years compared to the hypersonic glide weapon that's going into service next year.

Nukes are realistically not an option, the moment you use them you open yourself up to retaliatory nuclear exchange they escalates to a full nuclear war.

Hypersonic glide missiles allow for a conventional warhead to bypass air defense radars and missile defense systems to hit critical infrastructure or other high value targets.

        True story.
You know those LRAD things you see mounted on trucks and directed at unruly mobs during protests to disperse them with noise?
That tech tree originated in the military (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Active_Denial_System) with a version that that make the surface of your skin instantaneously scream in pain for a split second.
That's on LOW power. On high it will peel the top dermal layer clean off your flesh. Just turn it into pork rinds. During testing there were sometimes apparently indications of second degree burns if subjects stayed in the path of the beam for more than a few seconds.

There's also apparently a variant reliant on a different wavelength that is said to just immediately rupture your grey matter and internal organs, scrambling you from the inside out.
Or maybe it's supposed to burst cells or expand water molecules or something? I don't know.

There have been times in history where a foreign power successfully fooled the US into thinking they were behind in certain tech.

This kinda backfires because the US has the capacity to actually build the tech.

      >1936, Japan is rumored to be fielding fast battleships after they rage quit the naval arms treaty. America freaks the frick out, designs and builds four fast battleship designs to counter by 1942.

      >1955, the USSR successfully convinces the US that they have more bombers than they actually have. America freaks the frick out and builds 2500 nuclear bombers by to counter less than 150 Soviet bombers.

      >1958, the USSR propaganda successfully convinces the US government that a missile gap exists. The US begins a massive buildup of nuclear missiles and by 1961 had thousands of nuclear warheads capable of delivered to targets in the USSR compared to the few dozen Soviet types that could reliably hit the US.

      >1967, the USSR deploys the MiG-25. America freaks the frick out and redesigns the F15 into an air superiority fighter, deploying in 1976 and to this day, has not been shot down in air to air combat.

The Germans would have had the exact same problem the Russians and Chinese have if Hitler hadn't aggroed the entire world, and the Nazi Party remained in power. It's a sickness endemic to authoritarian states.
        >b-but what about [insert historical monarchic state here]
Had an entire crowd of nobles who could theoretically replace the king, family members to shut him down, and institutions like parliament to keep him in line. Absolute monarchs were exceedingly rare and tended to get deposed, or their dynasty ended a generation or so afterwards as power passed into the hands of a less competent successor who still tried to keep said absolute power.

          Anonymous

More importantly, the reason why historical monarchies didn't have the same problems modern authoritarian states did is because there was literally no democratic alternatives for them to compete with.

            Anonymous

Indeed. Consider Charles I. The normal constraint on English monarchs was that there was no established tax, Parliament would vote to award the crown money by passing a specific tax levy. Charles tried to rule without them when they didn't want to fund his wars (despite Parliament wanting those wars until it was time to fork over the cash) then tried to strongarm them, and it ended up very messy for him. The moment Parliament achieved any power, the ability to grant tax, the crown's power was severely curtailed.

Statistics can be made up - especially in an authoritarian nation. The proof is in actions.
America, when facing an actual military, has historically done very well. (When it doesn't, it doesn't, as seen in Afghanistan and Vietnam.)
Last thing China did was get its shit pushed in when it tried to support the Khmer Rouge against Vietnam. Before that, it could only help Best Korea with massive losses. Need I mention the little islands Taiwan has near the coast?
America seems worse off, because freedom of the press forces the military to be somewhat honest when the truth comes out. This makes them appear terrible, but also makes them VERY aware of any weaknesses and provides an incentive to fix them.

Are you fricking moronic or something? From a military perspective, the US did well in both Vietnam and Afghanistan. Yes.
The only problem the US had in Vietnam, was not invading the north, meaning they couldn't win, because their whole strategy relied on the south Vietnamese homosexuals actually doing their job and not being corrupt pieces of shit.
The Americans literally won every battle.

I still fricking despise the Americans for being subhuman scum who enabled, and allied, with the commies during WW2, but that doesn't mean they didn't do well against third world shitholes in the post-WW2 world. The Germans were the last people who outfought the Americans to the point of humiliation despite fighting with the broken remnants of their military and 80% of their forces being on the eastern front. But as they tend to do, the Germans ran into that old logistics and attrition wall. It doesn't really matter how many enemies you kill if there's an endless supply of them.

In the minds of Wehraboos. Hitler losing and the Nazis being eliminated as a political force before they could sink into the kind of corruption and degeneracy we see from other authoritarian regimes means they never saw it fail, giving it a sort of King Arthur-esque quality, preserved in a youthful Avalon of "never been sufficiently tried."

It is well understood by fricking everyone that the western front of WW2 was the literal easiest nicest place to be. The germans humbled nobody but the French.

Not that guy but the US consistently raped the NVA and VC in every engagement between the two. The faceraping reached such an extreme degree that the VC basically ceased to exist as a fighting force by 1970.

The issue was that the NVA could keep trickling down south indefinitely, and the US had no real way to permanently put them out of action without invading the north.

That's pretty sad as far as propaganda goes. I mean, listing off lies, propaganda and irrelevant facts.
The US is further ahead in hypersonics, but hypersonics are generally a cope weapon that you rely on if you can't develop a technologically advanced missile that can be effective without just "going fast".
The "drone swarms" argument is based on a fake video, though at least on a general basis, the chinks actually do make decent commercial drones, so this is the argument that's the closest to the truth.
Also, the number of naval ships doesn't matter. The number of carriers and its aircraft, not to mention the number and quality of the other ships and their weapon systems are what matter, and China usually makes floating dogshit.
It's the same with the "serving members". Unless there's a massive difference, quality trumps quantity in every case. Russia vs Ukraine is a good example, with Russia being raped up the ass, while Ukraine takes comparatively few losses, despite the Ukrainians having rushed, second-tier European training.
Lastly, there's the case of experience, and American are moronic homosexuals who love to fight pointless wars instead of dealing with the commie homosexuals, israelites and Black folks destroying their country, so they have plenty of combat experience, and the R&D to back up that experience.

in the longer version of this video, the female "special" forces operators were conducting room entry without a round in the chamber. They're trained to enter the room first, chamber the first round, and then begin firing. Chinese training is a joke. Worse than russia probably.

Chang only has experience fighting unarmed peasants and it shows.

Worse, they're arrogant about it. They refuse to learn, because learning means correcting mistakes, correcting mistakes means admitting mistakes, admitting mistakes means losing face, and losing face means a Party member's career is damaged and the Party as a whole is stained. Can't have that, actual military effectiveness matters less to the CCP than keeping an iron grip on their own population. Russia was doing the same until Putin started believing his own propaganda.

They outnumbered them and caught them in a surprise counter-attack that no one saw coming (hence the surprise). Even with the element of surprise, Chinese losses were so atrocious it limited how they long they could keep it up. Take Fox Company’s stand: they inflicted enough casualties on three enemy battalions that Chinese command decided it was more prudent to stop trying to take the hill and just go around it. They very nearly succeeded in surrounding and enclosing US forces with a massive leg up on them, but still failed to stop them from consolidating their forces and successfully performing a fighting retreat.
If anything, the humiliation was on the Chinese for having the advantage but utterly wasting their chance to decapitate a good chunk of the US forces in Korea.

Heritage has moronic standards for "weak" vs "strong," if you read what they have to say it's nothing that unreasonable but their metric for an acceptable US military is
        >can the US military win a war on three continents at once?
if you say "no," then it's automatically marginal
if you say "no, only one," then it's automatically weak
their more substantive complaints are as follows,
        >Army: recruiting crisis, gib more money bcoz inflation
        >Navy: hurry the frick up and renovate your shipyards or rebuild commercial shipbuilding holy shit you're never going to hit the 355 manned hulls you are legally required to
        >Air Force: some valid criticism on the low level of the munitions stockpile mixed in with eternal F-35 butthurt
        >Marines: limited scope allows limited budgets to go further, happy with AVPLAN, also they foist frickups on Amphibious Ships onto the Navy rating
        >Space Force: still want more launching capability so real-time satellite datalinks are viable for soldiers (air force & artillery), considered to be improving but too slowly
        >Nooks: still angry about all the treaty-related cancellations under Bush n' Obama, also overreacting to "failed tests" that get publicized rampantly
        >Missile Defense: rightfully angry about the lack of missile defense at all levels, less reasonably bitter about the ones that actually exist and work great despite low budget and low procurement
        >Cyber: hackermans are cool (this is one of the worst areas in the US military but inexplicably Heritage thinks they're doing fine)

Via what statistic? You understand that just counting to a higher number is not a al statistic. The US has a much larger airforce. Larger collection of current generation land vehicles. Larger naval displacement and far more modern submarines and just more aircraft carriers. Sure China has more T72, and untrained infantry. But those are not statistics, just bodies.

they DID make some big grandiose thing with their ban on vidya games.
I am very curious as to what effect that will have on their youngest generation.
Will it actually have some kind of positive effect?
Or will their existing system tailored for the corrupt, cheating, and ruthless squash the potential.

I genuinely don't know how a society can continue to exist when everybody fricks each other over that much. The reused gutter oil, the lack of care in the construction industry, the murdering people you accidentally harm because it actually causes you less trouble than letting them live, etc. People tend to be selfish c**ts all the time in the west but it seems like the communist chinese take it to another level.
I wonder how much better their culture would have been if the actual republic prevailed, if it would have actually improved at all.

The factory worker peasants generate so much value from their 16 hour shifts, that the business owners can effectively cover up their problems with money.
          >ahh this guy fricked us over?
          >we'll just buy our stuff from somebody else and pay him extra to actually ensure it's high quality
          >instead of complaining and fixing the problem, i'll just mitigate the issue and leave it for somebody else
          Sad state of affairs.

I can't imagine them being successful in combat. Despite their intelligence and technology, you still need to be brave to win, and generations of cheater culture has likely cause irreversible damage to their mental functionality.
I just can't see enough Chinese men being willing to put themselves in harm's way in order to win a fight, when for their entire lives, they've been taught to always mitigate hard work as much as possible. It's a recipe for disaster. Compare them, to the wild yet selfless white guys who'd willingly sacrifice their own limbs to protect their brothers, or the latino savages who just love violence, and I don't think the individual soldiers in the Chinese military would be able to compare.
They also have gigantic egos, which would work against them as soon as any negative signs start to emerge.
But of course, only time will tell. Can't cheat war.

Hypersonic cruise missile spam from submarines. It's literally a fricking amazing tactic that would be an excellent precursor to air-strikes carried out by carrier fixed-wing aviation, and one which America has been sleeping on for too long.

Has china even seen a conflict outside it's own borders before? I was under the impression that their military is largely untested.

Up time for naval aviators compared to their chinese counterparts. Oh, and about 6 decades of modern blue water navy force projection experience.
