B-52

I’m tired of all the attention the B-21 is getting when the B-52 is the superior plane, it’s unrivaled in payload and logistics capabilities.

    B-52 has a crew of 5.
    B-21 has a crew of 2.
Take 10 people, and the ones flying the 5 B-21s can drop more bombs compared to the 2 B-52s.

Why wouldn’t you want more crew?

Because we already have manning issues in our military? Being able to do more with less bodies is ALWAYS better.

Not for the B-52s role? Also you have no idea how the Air Force works if you believe they’d be willing to train 6 million pilots on the B-2/B-21 instead of a B-52. I am demoralized however da

Because the US military is going through a recruitment crisis, with no signs of stopping.

People are expensive. They have to be trained, paid, fed, housed, paid retirement, offered healthcare, etc. And each person on the pointy end of the spear requires many other people to support them, from trainers to cooks. Then you can triple the costs or more when you deploy people overseas.

That's the same reason the USN tried to reduce manning with the Ford and LCS, and keeps short-staffing the Burkes.

Practically the perfect plane for what it was designed to do. Good looking plane, too. What are those black lines on the elevators?

It would greatly benefit from a redesign: swapping those damn eight turbojets to four modern high bypass turbofans would probably double its range, which in practical terms means halve the fuel load for each mission and increase the payload accordingly.

in a peer conflict the B-52 isn't survivable anyway. So its only role would be launching standoff weapons, something the C-130 or C-17 can likely do way cheaper, see

I dunno the rapid dragon system might take standoff role from the B-52. At which point the only real role is carrying a enough conventional weapons to flatten cities.

it will also outlive both the b-2 and b-21. Just like it outlived the f-117

Don't forget about range. It's funny how the B-2 and the B-21 being the superior/advanced "flying wing" design still gets beat by the B-52 in range and payload

B-52 range is excessive. It can fly all the way around the diameter of the Earth.
B-2 and B-21 have enough range to strike anywhere in the world and return still.

Trying to say the B-2 and B-21 aren't good is such a dumb take.
B-52 is just useful for logistics and bombing people without AA.

dumbest take ever. Boeing is garbage now.

          [...]
B-2 and B-21 need to do areal refueling in order to do intercontinental bombing. It's funny how despite almost a century the Flying Wing design is still gets beat by conventional design aircraft: https://youtu.be/dByvPIyIbZE?si=W_I7kfrKzT9PQXN3

It still has enough range to go from the US to China/Russia with safely refueling more than 3,000 miles away from the target.
The B-21 is surely significantly longer range given it's two engines and more modern ones. The range and cost were the only disappointing things about the B-2.

Have you been living under a rock and not seen Boeing's string of Ls the past decade?

The company would have gone bankrupt by now if not for government handouts.

aren't B-21 and B-52 supposed to complement each other, with the B-2 and B-1 being retired?
B-21: go into enemy territory despite air defenses
B-52: launch standoff munitions from afar

They're giving it new Roles Royce engines that give it even more range, and testing the newest generation of missiles on it. This magnificent plane is going to be up there with the 1911, the Ma Deuce, and the Maxim as weapons that are practically immortal just due to fantastic design.

I hope they do new build B-52s one day. Like, ACTUAL new builds, not "modifications" that make it a B-52-looking new aircraft ala the Super Hornet, just crack out those 1950s era blueprints staple on some Gulfstream business jet engines and send it to Boeing. Another 50,000 flight hours or your money back.

Fuck it, slap methane + LOX tanks on it, some Raptors and send it to Mars.
