Azov have made a post on their telegram praising the NLAW system

https://t.me/AZOVsof/1866
>It is no exaggeration to say that in the early days of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, the NLAW ATGM (also known as MBT LAW and RB-57) played a significant role in repelling the attacks of the Russian invaders. This Swedish-British development terrified the enemies so much that they were forced to hastily weld "chicken coops" to tanks. But the fighting showed the senselessness of these "defense systems" on enemy armor. NLAW in the hands of our soldiers turned out to be a powerful firepower that gave nightmares to enemy tank columns. Small dimensions and weight, the possibility of using ammunition by one person, minimizing the time from target detection to its destruction, the "shoot and forget" principle, as well as a passive targeting algorithm that does not allow laser radiation sensors to detect a threat. And above all, the ability to master this formidable ATGM in an hour. All this leveled the chances of our mobile groups on the battlefield. The only question was how many such ammunition sets our defenders would have during the military deployment. At the same time, already during the first battles for Irpin-Hostomel, the extraordinary advantage of NLAW over other ATGMs was revealed: they could be used to shoot down enemy helicopters and airplanes. It was the saturation of this firepower of our units that allowed us to slow down the pace of the Russian offensive in the first days of the war. In addition to all the mentioned advantages, NLAW has another one - a convenient tube, which performs many useful functions in military life, and is highly appreciated by our soldiers. However, it should be noted that even such formidable weapons would be ineffective if our soldiers did not fight so selflessly and harmoniously.

I don't doubt it. A short range top attack rocket, light enough for almost every man within a squad to carry, sounds like a fantastic weapon for fighting in urban or forest environments.

It's top attack but flies over the point of aim and hase a proximity fuzed (magnetic and laser) shaped-sharge that fires downwards into whatever triggers it
It can't tell the difference between a helicopter and a tank - it just knows there's something metal a couple of meters below it. So theoretically it could hit a helicopter

I'd like to see a video of this.
As far as I understand the thing has no seeker, just inertial guidance to stabilize it. It might fly in a perfectly straight line as long as it has fuel, and it can help the user aim at a moving target by leading it automatically, but that would still be quite a trick shot.

Azov had little-to-no presence during the early war. After the Russians pulled out and reconstituted the invasion they ran into Azov (and marines, border guards etc). Azov were getting supplies supplies via helicopter for a while until the Russians encircled Azovstal and cut off the chopper corridor. After weeks of starvation and constant Russian propaganda about how well they’d be treated as POWs, they finally broke and surrendered. It’s noteworthy, however, that they needed permission from the government to do so. Even with morale at 0 with no possibility of rescue they still maintained enough discipline to hold on until they got permission.

After the fall of Azovstal and Mariupol, the Azov seemed to disappear. Sure there was still Kraken but they seem to be involved in propaganda for the most part — a small group. Where did they all go? I think it’s very likely that they all went onto a UN bus and landed in a POW camp. Azovstal wasn’t a hold-out for one part of Kraken, it was ALL of them.

      Anonymous

is this cope or just plain ignorance?
it's been talked about a million times - Azov has many units, most of them were not in Mariupol but rather in other areas, the guys who stayed behind volunteered.
      They haven't "disappeared" at all.
The POWs were returned and leadership (captured leadership) sent to Turkey as part of the peace agreements

Don’t try gaslighting me. The regular Azov — guys with the extremely distinctive full-body tattoos were Azov. After Azovstal where did they all go BESIDES a POW camp? In all the vids posted since Azovstal I haven’t seen one Azov guy. Only a few Kraken who seem like fresh recruits and without the full-body tats. So where did all those real Azov go?

      Javelins were sent:
      1. much later
      2. in lower quantities
      3. are heavier
The first NLAWs arrived in January 19th, giving it plenty of time to filter down the Ukrainian logistics system.
4000 NLAWs were sent, versus less than 500 Javelins.

You're right about the Javelins arriving in 2018.
But there's still the numerical difference:
In January 2022, you have 210 Javelins missiles and 37 Javelins launchers in Ukraine.
          Versus 2000 NLAW launchers.
That explains why the majority of the early war footage were of NLAWs.

Shit, my bad then. I apologize.

But the fact that Javelin is a crew served weapon with a less photogenic engagement envelope and a more difficult manual of arms has ensured that NLAW was going to be far better represented in dramatic combat footage.

          Anonymous

I'm pretty sure we're agreeing with each other here. No one in this entire thread said that Javelin were bad.

The fact is that there's roughly a 10 to 1 ratio of NLAW launchers to Javelin launchers.
So it's only natural that you get a roughly a 10 to 1 ratio of NLAW kills versus Javelin kills.
And like you pointed out, NLAW is lower range and top-down direct fire, which leads to more photogenic footage, so it's only natural that you get something like a 20 to 1 ratio of NLAW footage versus Javelin footage.

Again, no one in this entire thread denied that there were plenty of Javelin supplied, or that there were plenty of Javelin kills and Javelin kill footage.

ignore the morons who responded before me
Javelins can be used by one man and the range is far greater but if you've got shitloads of NLAWs using those in close range combat makes a lot more sense. Javelin works far better at the sort of ranges we saw outside of cities

Azov was fighting in different environment, I remember one four men team that had 12 confirmed armor kills with Javelin

      Anonymous

Javelins were useful when the war turned into a slugfest/offensive, in defense, NLAW is far superior as it works best in isolated environments like cities
They're also just better in some ways
      >weighs less
      >larger quantities
Since they were designed for either urban environments or Sweden, they're actually meant to be carried around thick forest and steep hills, the weight and disposability is a feature cause it makes fighting way easier if you can just go somewhere, motti a supply line and then rtb
I believe the Cold War Swedish tactic with its AT4s/CGs was to outfit entire squads with one each, they would just show up at the treeline, wreck the logistics and clog the road, then tail it out of there.
Of course, the NLAW makes that task pathetically easy, so when raspubreastsa hit in Ukraine, the best-possible circumstance for its usage happened (enemies always choked). The only thing they really lack in Ukraine is poor visibility, but they don't need to traverse steep hills every kilometer like in Sweden
