Assaulting the Ryugyong hotel

Assuming your army got to Pyongyang without getting nuked and were assigned the duty of taking this monolith intact, how the hell do you do it?

The thing is a 1000 foot tall flak tower so heavily built that it's weight distorts the city streets around it, besides a nuke or three is isn't going anywhere. How do you take a place like that without atomic weapons?

I could swear that it's some IRL tower defense game

I send in wave after wave of my own men until they either clear the building or their rotting corpses get the defenders so sick they give up.

That would eventually lead to the defenders using your troops corpses as resources, congratulations it's now a nightmarish 1000 foot tower full of heavily armed North Korean C.H.U.Ds.

Lets go full HP Lovecraft: The city is inhabited by half a million ghouls.

how? Between not giving them any spare mags and the bomb vests they wouldn't really be leaving any intact gear behind. Although them potentially eating the bodies is a good point, I should poison my men before sending them in.

so its like, one brother is a cop and the eight other brothers are all crooks and NONE of them know each other, they're all in gangs in this big ass building with no contact.

Each time he gets to a new floor, HQ sends him a new squad and a briefing and each time he has to be like, "shit, thats my #2 (or 3 or whatever) brother, dont blow it, play it cool" and then everyone gets offed again.

Unironically? Assuming it's an option, siege it out, put some blocking teams and snipers in place to shoot anyone who comes out or pops their head without the intent to surrender.

    Gas, otherwise.

Final option is infantry with both the blocking detachments artillery/tank/air support since a little bit of shelling should still leave the building still upright. It was never finished so it's not as big a deal as it otherwise might be but it's still not optimal.

Sounds like time for a siege. Identify any underground tunnels leading to it and seal them off. Destroy their utilities. Secure the perimeter and fortify your positions to forbid any kind of ingress or egress and starve them out. Use drones and snipers to inflict casualties and terrorize them until surrender. The tower itself would be no problem. The main issue would be making sure you're ready for any attempts at counterattack or relief from outside the city.

      >The tower itself would be no problem
Crusader era forts held by the Syrian army held out for years and were devastating fire positions, there is literally nowhere in that city where a AA gun in there couldn't hit you. Sung built the entire city as a fortress, just getting close to it would be a nightmare. We are talking at least two Sabaton albums, maybe three.

I've always wondered what they're making in this picture. Is it a barrel of grease or something?

Yes, it is from them advertising a new chemical complex that makes specialist products like machine grease and hydraulic fluid. Un is very big on infrastructure and basic supply chain items, they brag about stuff like and irrigation projects this far more than they do military hardware but most folks ignore it.

Bombard it from twenty kilometres away with chemical munitions, I’m going to use everything. VX, mustard gas, hydrogen cyanide, phosgene, BZ, chlorine trifluoride, hell even shells packed full of fentanyl and grounded up plutonium.
Frick it biological rounds too, maybe get drones to drop box’s full of potato beetles and plague flees for old times sake. By the time I’m done the whole building will be more toxic than a Shanghai sewer, more polluted than the Ganges, more pozzed than a Omsk boy hooker who was also born in Baltimore.
Not even God himself will be able to bare to look at it without feeling disgust

it's not THAT solid. Has a big water infiltration problem.

I'd just shell it a la 1993 Russian coup.

It's mostly concrete, they couldn't make a steel framed building that huge so they basically made a monolithic honeycomb. The weight is why it is crooked, they fixed structural issues by filling in most of the floors so the core is one gigantic concrete column with access corridors going to the layer of rooms on the skin.

      >How do you take a place like that without atomic weapons?

Supposedly had subway access tunnels under it.

They still must have used steel, hell, I live in a commieblock myself and my concrete walls have steel inside them.

You can't tell me they built a gigantic concrete structure with 0 steel.

Bad quality? yea, you can still have structural problems (commies never insulated steel with plastic to avoid rusting), but I doubt it's a building made out of just concrete, it needs SOME reinforcement.

          Anonymous

Oh its steel reinforced, they just didn't use a steel frame. Some of the construction pictures clearly show rebar mats being used, it just isn't supported by big beams like a normal skyscraper.

He is inspecting the newly upgraded equipment at the Ch'ŏnji Lubricant Factory, it was quite the big deal for them at the time. Reading KCNA for stuff like that is rather fascinating, what they leave out or put emphasis on can give you alot of insight. Is that actually notable? A local boomer has a mild collection of military vehicles and sno cats in a parking lot and they've absolutely distorted the asphalt from sitting there for years

      Anonymous

It happened after the second round of construction and as originally designed shouldn't have happened. The long delay caused serious structural issues, the current belief is that they solved them by closing off the inner parts of most of the floors and filled them in with more concrete. There is a very good chance that at least half of it is a single solid mass.

If they did do that then for better or worse it's effectively there forever, the Germans can't get rid of 160 foot towers so imagine one that is over 1000 feet. It will be there centuries from now.
