Because leaders make their decisions based off of numbers on a graph and these graphs don't show the injuries that result from people that start unbuckling their helmets and outright taking them off after wearing them for 36 hours straight when their comms have been being smashed into the sides of their heads the entire time.

      t. sgm who hasn't fricked his wife in five years and thinks everyone should be as uncomfortable in full kit as his spouse is uncomfortable sleeping in the same bed as him.

      >Makes helmet to integrate comms
      >Comms not built into helmet
What did they mean by this?

Why not just use a system where the coms clip onto the helmet? Allowing dudes to flip them up when they are not using them ie. low cut

What he said must have stung. Were you wearing your low-cut at the time you read his post?

Yeah, because they give a frick about being comfortable, and when they adopted high cuts, the rest of the force still had fricking PASGTs in some units. The ACH, and especially the ECH, were unironically fine if fit correctly.

High cuts are for having comms in them
I loved my ach but its not comfortable wearing peltors under

Well with FAST helmets it was a comm reason behind the design, the PASGT then ACH (and ECH) was all about fragmentation. So why not combine both? The new IHPS's it supposed to be level IV and has more room on the sides for comms while also providing that frag protection.

its uncomfy as frick to use comtacs with the IHPS, the rail system does not work well.

Got ya, in the Reserves and I make do with my ACH. I can fit my Sordins comfortably but its not exactly top class, especially sometimes with the straps while trying to put on or take off the helmet

The IHPS LOOKS like it can fit electronic earpro but it really can’t without being uncomfortable or impractical. I try to fit my Walker’s Razor and it barely fits when you take the pads off.

Sadly IHPS sucks poo poo for earpro use even compared to the ACH. I have amps, they're not comfy under the IHPS, my unit (NG) was issued them because a lot of active duty units dumped theirs.

Did they go back to the ACH, or what?

From what I was told, they're using ACHs with new liners instead for the time. Supposedly a lot of issues are being fixed with the new version of IHPS but I have no experience with that, my sample size with the IHPS is two (personally owned one and issued one) and it isn't great.

          [...]
isn't the whole point of the IHPS was to integrate comms?

I think it's just overengineered and the geometry in the ear cup area is just wonky. Genuinely new production ACH cuts made by Gentex or something with ARC rails would have been better.

Lmao, you think OCIE is decided on the unit level like that? Why would you even bother larping on the internet as some national guard dork? Go big and say you're a SEAL Delta Ranger or something.

Every helmet built after the PASGT is ugly as sin, i wonder why cant they just smooth out the shapes so they dont look like they're poorly built.

the only good ones for comms are high cut?
are there any stats on the injuries from shrapnel for highcut vs midcut?

This isn't really comparing lowcut helmets but if you look through the kind of testing they are doing you could see how a low cut helmet just isn't ever going to fly with any surgeon general.

You moronic? They don't even come close to stopping regular old greentip, and most rifle rounds will either penetrate them or compromise the shell catastrophically.
