>Armenia-U.S. military exercise

>Armenia and the United States began a joint military training exercise on Monday, a U.S. army spokesperson said, at a time of high tension in Armenian relations with neighbouring Azerbaijan. The 10-day "Eagle Partner" exercise involves 85 U.S. and 175 Armenian soldiers and is designed to prepare the Armenians to take part in international peacekeeping missions. It is taking place at two training grounds near the capital Yerevan.

>Though small in scale, the drill has irked Russia, which has a military base in Armenia and regards itself as the prime security guarantor in the region. Armenia and neighbouring Azerbaijan have fought two wars in the three decades since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and each side has accused the other within the past week of building up troops near the border.

Will US training and weapons be able to turn the tide?

    >US training
Yes, I'm sure 175 Armenians jumping around with 85 Americans for a week and a half will destroy Azerbaijan.

    Just that, no.

Full integration into the US' style of military, yes. That doesn't necessarily mean joining NATO, but it does mean becoming aligned with the US.

See how Ukraine reformed their military between 2014 and now.

it’s a symbolic gesture meant to get the azeris to stop going crazy. The US wants Turkey (and thus their pet Azerbaijan) on their side regarding Russia and Syria, so they can’t directly threaten the Azeris.

that's a considerable misunderstanding of the caucasian mindset. "ethnic cleansing" cleansing is not "crazy", it's a bad tuesday morning.

I think so, but they're in a border war with Azerbaijan, and Russia has failed to keep the peace. Armenia is losing, so they've been turning to the US.

A smaller border war also broke out between two of the 'stans.

The Central Asian 'stan countries are going to be fighting one another in the coming decades over water and ethnic nonsense. Fuckin' Soviets really did a number in that part of the world with drawing borders and catastrophic agri-business projects.

This, Uzbekistan will be the key player as they have the manpower to absolutely dominate any of the other Stans 1-on-1.
The only chance the Tajiks or Kyrgyz have is to go to the mountains and raid. Kazakhs have some strategic depth to exhaust the Uzbeks, but the Turkmen will have a hard time fending them off.

Though that isn't taking into account equipment, and the overall competence of each army

After an unfavourable negotiation with Artsakh cut-off from Armenia, RU peacekeepers prevented Azerbaijan from presuming the war in bad faith, but since then Nagorno-Karabakh has been left with a tiny corridor to supply itself. That corridor has been under siege since the start of this year leaving the Armenians there starved of essentials

Hasn’t Armenia abandoned the CSTO? I believe membership is for life and if a member doesn’t show they just pretend that the absentee is still there.

Anyway, no one is going to help Armenia. It’s a poor country with nothing to offer anyone trying to maintain a territory which doesn’t historically belong to them (NK). Even when Russia was supposedly protecting them they had to PAY Russia for it. They should just give up, negotiate with Azerbaijan to let go of NK and at least get something for it. I’m guessing the reason they won’t and are desperate to find a big daddy is because some oligarch is cashing in on NK and his money runs their government.

Armenia is fucking retarded for pushing what was left of their relationship with Iran. Now they're going to get gang banged by Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey if she hits the fan. You get what you deserve.
