I feel like the sleek look and compact shape were done with mountaineering in mind so that the rifle will stay out of your way and not get snagged on shit when you're climbing up a mountain.
I’ve been interested in Augs as well, so I might as well use this thread too
I really like the aesthetic of them, and the cold war history and look to them, but I have some main questions
-How bad are the triggers, really?
-How are the ergonomics of using one? I am so much more used to a M16/M4/AR style, I feel like it would be weird to get used to
I think I’ve already decided that I would at least get a true Steyr mag version so I still get the bolt release, but I have never handled one before so I don’t know how they feel
I’ve experienced both shitty worn out milspec triggers and really nice two-stage DMR triggers
It would be so much more simple to get an AR like everyone else, but I feel like I would be missing out on how unique an Aug is
>How bad are the triggers, really?
Pretty standard mil-spec trigger. Not great but you can get used to it easily enough or just change it out. >How are the ergonomics of using one? I am so much more used to a M16/M4/AR style, I feel like it would be weird to get used to
If you're already used to AR ergos, then yeah, it feels odd. Nothing too bad but it takes some time to get used to.
Great guns though. Don't regret buying mine. Easily my favorite from my collection.
trigger on the standard stock is not bad, especially if you buy the red springs from Steyr and tune the trigger bars. The NATO version only has one trigger bar vs the Standards two which tremendously fucks the feel of the pull. Honestly the nato version should not even exist.
>How bad are the triggers, really?
They're not going to fuck your wife or kill your firstborn son like the internet would have you believe, but they're definitely heavy. There is a clearly defined wall though, so it's not difficult to shoot accurately once you learn it. There are also aftermarket trigger packs you can throw in that make them signifigantly closer to what you'd expect in an AR. The trigger pack is one big box that pops out of the gun so it's a super easy change to make, it's just a 3-400$ upgrade. >How are the ergonomics of using one?
Fucking divine. The rifle balances incredibly well, and for prolonged shooting having a more compact package does wonders for arm stamina. You still have LRBHO and a bolt release, so you just need to learn the manual of arms for rifle manipulation. Once you get past that hurdle, it's amazing.
They stopped using FN chrome lined barrels on the US ones and started using some button rifled nitride shitter while keeping the prices the same.
based retard thinks chrome barrels matter in anything except machine guns and aks
If you specifically want an AUG, yes
If you just want a bullpup they’re near the top of the bunch but are lacking in some modern design choice areas that other newer bullpups have but it can be worked around
If you’re just wanting a rifle to be you go to main squeeze 5.56 rifle then no, buy an AR
There were compelling reasons for adoption of bullpups, the AUG is an average offering, as a rifle it's unremarkable.
It's heavy so not well suited to auxiliary use despite it's short OBL, mechanized patrol gets good value out of it. The triggers are not good but perform better than most bulpups.
Steyr has made several changes to the mold for the stock over the years and yet has FAILED to add an attachment point for a brass deflector. They have also not added a QD point somwhere behind the charging handle.
>stock made out of low quality plastic that cracks >cheap psa-tier nitrided barrel for cost savings >awkward controls, poor ergonomics, terrible trigger
It’s a novelty purchase, a range toy, like all bullpups.
If you want a practical, usable 5.56 spitter, you buy an AR. If you already have an AR(s) and want something unique, you buy something like this.
not at that size, no
if you live in these conditions, then yes

Americans always forget that it was designed with mittens in mind and your sleekness theory makes sense with that design aspect too.
Yeah the Aug looks strange when its presented with other firearms but it looks right at home alongside climbing equipment.

If I wanted to suppress them, what do I need to do and what to get?

yes, they're super fun

Explain how you’re better off without a chrome lined barrel.
What is that light laser combo suppose to be? It looks dope.

Not hard to find a chrome lined barrel online if you’re patient if it really bothers you.
Steyr has made several changes to the mold for the stock over the years and yet has FAILED to add an attachment point for a brass deflector. They have also not added a QD point somwhere behind the charging handle.
Would be a pretty good hog hunting gun, but otherwise no
If you want it yeah, it’s a unique one, maybe less practical than just getting a basic bitch 556 AR but way cooler for sure
Are there any STANAG variant AUGs around that aren't dogshit, or are you stuck with the proprietary waffle mags?
Imagine owning an AUG without a cold hammer forged chrome lined barrel lmao
