Are there any?

Are there any /k/ related single player games (with mods if necessary) that don't push you into playing as Lord Death of Murder Mountain? The level of violence a lot of /k/ related games tend to portray requires a significant level of suspension of disbelief when it comes to the extreme numbers of people you need to kill on a regular basis, and I feel this is just as important of a part of realistic portrayal of guns in games as other issues that are more commonly talked about here. Even in games commonly discussed here where you can try to avoid engaging in unrealistic amounts of killing and mod your health down to that of enemies, killing crazy amounts of people still commonly ends up being the path of least resistance for solving problems due to other gameplay factors and the enemies' ability to use guns being unrealistically gimped in other ways.

Go outside and rub two sticks together. The whole point of video games is to do the impossible, including becoming lord death of murder mountain, duh.

But to answer your question, probably the old school Tom Clancy Splinter Cell games. They had a big influence and emphasis on stealth aspects, and required the player to really hammer down strategy and AI pathing.

Just because that's one of the impossible things people want to do doesn't mean everyone only wants to face off against morons in a world where you're the only person with remotely competent gun handling skills.

Then try Call of the Zone. It has a main story line (if you really need one) and it is no where near as turbo-crazy-item-bloat-pain as anomaly. It also has the kind of combat you want because all of the enemies are "lord death of murder mountain" and you are just a normal guy, so if you try to confront everything you will get wiped out and CotZ has a reputation system so if you try to kill every problem you encounter their faction WILL remember what you have done and hold you accountable.

        https://www.moddb.com/mods/doctorx-call-of-the-zone/downloads

Also, if there is still too much fighting for your taste you can go into settings and just crank the stalker count way down and crank the mutant count way up if you want.

You will want this weapons mod for it too. It's really good and more realistic than sdalger's original weapons.

        https://www.moddb.com/mods/doctorx-call-of-the-zone/addons/ao3-for-cotz-12

CoTZ 1.2 + Ao3CoTZ = the only stalker game you will ever need (but stalker complete 2009 is pretty good too.)

    >hurr why aren't video games more real durr
because they are meant to be entertaining to a very wide array of people and most importantly profitable. if you were to make a 10 hour long single player fps where you killed 10 people start to finish it would be a very boring game and would be a huge financial failure. if you want a game perfectly tailored to your specific flavor of autism you're going to have to make it yourself

      >if you were to make a 10 hour long single player fps where you killed 10 people start to finish it would be a very boring game
Sure, if killing people is all the game has to offer, but that's a failure on the part of the developer for having nothing else interesting about the game beyond killing people.

if you cram enough non combat stuff into a fps so that people wouldn't mind only 10 kills in a 10 hour game it would cease to be a fps game. even something like portal which is a puzzle game has more than 10 "kills" throughout the campaign

what could you put in a first person shooter other than killing npc combatants that would make it fun and entertaining and still justify the player having guns in the first place? if you spend 9 of the 10 hours doing non combat tasks or exploring the world without using a gun why is there a gun in the game at all?

          >even something like portal which is a puzzle game has more than 10 "kills" throughout the campaign
Only "kills" in Portal other than the end boss fight were on turrets that couldn't move and had intelligence limited to searching for and shooting things directly in front of them. That isn't even remotely comparable to regularly killing groups of enemies who are supposed to have comparable intelligence and capabilities to yourself.

            >supposed to have comparable intelligence and capabilities to yourself.
dumb ai isn't the same issue as killing unrealistic numbers of combatants. combat and killing are core components of shooters and if you limit those enough it stops being a shooter

              >dumb ai isn't the same issue as killing unrealistic numbers of combatants
Yes it is, because it's what makes regular fights involving killing unrealistic numbers of combatants possible, and therefore necessary for game devs to design fights around for combat to be remotely interesting and challenging.

Shooter unironically and specifically involves shooting targets. So you probably want more generalized form of game, which is called action game. Of those there are many and what I am gonna name, are already known to general audience. But anyways, Try portal, tomb raider or dishonored; the latter can be completed with as low as 0(zero) kills (you can just knock out all of your enemies with right strategy).

How hard would it be to mod games to give enemies reaction time and aiming ability comparable to the player rather than just health/damage? Thinking of all the games where you're constantly popping out from cover, locating, and shooting enemies who are also partially behind cover before they can shoot you, with you frequently using the exact same piece of cover while engaging multiple enemies.

I'd love to try this in New Vegas, even if it meant getting absolutely dominated by enemies if I went up against more than a couple of them at a time.

        Anonymous

Do enemies in New Vegas even get the accuracy bonus you get from using the sights? Visibly they don't use the sights (being particularly visible with handguns).

          Anonymous

On looking it up, there's a Sight Usage stat for each weapon that sets the minimum distance enemies will use the sights on guns at. It's set as a multiplier of fCombatIronSightsDistance (normally 512 units), so setting fCombatIronSightsDistance to 0 would make enemies always use iron sights with every gun. I don't have NV currently installed to check the values my self, but the Sight Usage stat (1.5-2x) I'm seeing for a lot of guns in screenshots of GECK online puts it at about 1/5 the max view distance for enemies and longer than 1/2 the Max Range stat for what NPCs will try to fire a lot of guns from. Some guns like the minigun have their Sight Usage stat set at a longer distance than the normal max view distance, effectively stopping NPCs from using the sights entirely.

The enemies in Kill Switch Engage did that on higher difficulty levels. Usually they would try and hold down a position taking cover and trying to lay down suppressive fire but they work as a fireteam and start to flank you and stuff. If you can't kill them fast enough an alarm gets tripped and they start moving to figure out what's going on but theyll usually pile up on a choke point and you're screwed when too many of them.

I strongly recommend The Long Dark. It's a first-person survival game where there's an eternal winter and you have to survive alone for as long as you can while hunting, looting abandoned homes etc. Fine to play on low difficulty just to enjoy the scenery, but the adrenaline of getting chased by a bear and having to hide in an old car while worrying about freezing to death is something else.

      Reddit or Not sadly
The AI is extremely twitch, most missions are a crapshoot
It feels like a game made simultaneously to defend what cops do and to appeal to COD kiddies
I became pretty disillusioned after the umpteenth time of turning a corner to see a guy at low ready instantly pulp my brains with a shotgun in .001 seconds
And instead of working on making reaction times realistic, making flashbangs not a coin flip, and/or making builds besides heaviest armor possible workable, the devs listen to Reddit and pump out beta maps over and over

I'm not sure why Hideous Destructor feels so different from other games modded for more realism. I think it's the bleeding, where while you die in battle just as easily as the enemies, you can also die after a battle is over from the injuries you sustained which is a factor that most other games modded for realism don't feature.

Imo a lot of it has to do with how much weight everything has
took a penetrating hit to the chest? You're leaking blood and you had better find a safe place to take your armor off and staple yourself shut before you collapse from bleeding, it would probably be a good idea to check blood levels when you get a safe moment and maybe attach second blood to yourself
compare it to something like red orchestra where you hit a single button to fix all bleeding, the whole process only takes a few seconds and you are right as rain

Flight sims baby. I'm currently flying a historical campaign in IL Battle of Bodenplatte in VR. Half of the time you don't even encounter enemies. When you do, it's often more expedient to outrun them rather than dogfight. And if you die, it's permadeath.

Plus the planes have real flight models, unlike DCS where the AI planes can pull off speeds and maneuvers that are physically impossible.

New Vegas, FO3, or FO4. They all have mod support. If they could remake New Vegas, and put fallout 4s combat system and crafting system in it, it'd set the bar for me. They also need to fix the bugs in it, and some of the dialogue is fricking moronic, mostly from Benny. Skyrim has decent gun mods now. I don't know man, all the games I've played, and it's like they can never get it right. Somewhere out there is an idea that would blow every game in the past couple of decades out of the water. I always felt like developers aren't making full use of their abilities. The only games I feel have actually transcended all others in the past few years is HZD and forbidden West. The first one felt complete, and the story was interesting. The gameplay was fun, unique and looked great, and they still managed to outdo themselves with forbidden West. Why is it so fricking hard for companies to do this? Oh and mercenaries 2: world in flames. Frick I can't believe I just remembered that, I think that's the one I'd recommend you my fren. Just don't tell Todd Howard about this.

      >fallout 4s combat system and crafting system in it
Vanilla was way too easy. There is a total gameplay overhaul called Horizons that turns the game into a scavenger survivalist experience with some robust skilltrees and perk overhaul on top so you can actually build a character.

The glowing sea for example is impossible without the specialized rad suit and even then you will be chugging anti rads and rad aways.

        Anonymous

Yeah it was too easy. I always felt like fallout had the potential, and a great foundation for a more hardcore survival/horror game. That's what I mean when I say they can never get it right, the mods that turn FO4 into an actual wasteland, survival and horror type game make it feel more like fallout than Bethesda did. And I feel like the world could be way more diverse, as in the foliage, creatures, weather, armour, and especially the weapons. it felt way too plain to me. The concept art for the game had some pretty fricking cool enemies and other badass concepts, and they went with some of the most plain and basic versions of things they could have.
