>Are shotguns really worthwhile anymore?
I live in the SW mountains. We have herds of javelina and mule deer, and that brings coyotes, mountain lions and black bear. Everyone here keeps a shotgun by their front door, and I carry mine if I have to go outside my fence line after dark.
shotguns are cool because you don't need ammo to have fun with them. you can walk around your house pumping and dry firing and making doom sound effects with your mouth. i guess you can do it with other manual actions but it's not the same
There are so many now and specialized for various things I still use my 870 wingmaster with a 24 inch barrel and modified choke and the awesome wooden dowel to limit rounds or my HR 12 gauge single shot fixed full choke man best 100 bucks I ever spent on the HR it is a joy to carry and shoot and knowing you have one shot makes you better. My best advise is to go to your local Cabelas/Bass Pro/Sportsmans warehouse and take a look there are an utter shitwhack to chose from and all reputable brands
It really depends on what you are after, I'm partial to over/unders because I'm used to the swing (extra heft as there's the weight of the second barrel), but if you want to bag more birds in a flush, or prefer other actions then that's your choice.
Best advice is to go to a clay ground with a shop that'll let you try their guns before you purchase.
If it's all you got, but both inside and outside a house, the are a bottom-tier choice for defense. They're for hunting birds or brown bear protection with hardcast slugs. That's it.
Pretty much the answer I was looking for. All the posts itt say it's good for hunting, which I don't really plan to do, other than hunting shitskins when SHTF, in which case I guess it would be good as a backup to a rifle
I grabbed all the 00 buckshot (3 cases 12 guage) I could find while the george Floyd riots were happening. A 12 guage is very powerful and should be respected.
During the last riots in SA, the security contractors were flying in plane loads of 00 Buck from the US bc they were shooting all theirs. I feel like you can never have enough.
Suppose you're in a justified home defense situation
In court do you want them to talk about how you shot one shell of 00 buck out of a wooden shotgun or 9 times with an MPX?
You can also hunt with them, shoot many types of loads, bird shot is relatively cheap compared to 5.56, so on.
shotguns are good for shooting flying targets, breaching doors, and shooting funny ammo like beanbags and rock salt. buying one for self defense is pure fuddlore.
yes, as the above poster has stated between 9 to 15 .32 caliber lead balls flying at around 1300 to 1500 fps could never realistically pose a threat to a home invader as humans actually have buckshot resistant skin, the more you know.
No, modern rifle design makes shotguns completely irrelevant now. If anyone tells you otherwise it’s just cope. >but muh water foul
There’s a rifle for that >but muh bush gun
There’s a rifle for that >but muh HD
Why shoot many projectiles with one shot when I can shoot 1 projectile with many shots. >but muh versatility
Yeah, my collection of rifles is versatile too. Cope.
The bantz can't be contained. I'm not even that anon.
Shotguns are by far the most fun you can have for the money, both in the price of the gun and the price of the ammo. I promise that shooting cheap soda, pumpkins, and other trash with birdshot is way more fun than upgrading the backup sights for your backup AR. Remember that guns are at least partially a hobby and you'll have a great time.

Guns are nothing BUT a hobby for me. Sure, a hobby I can use to protect myself from upstanding urban youths, but I've never been in a situation where I've needed to.
12 gauge is so much more fun to shoot than 5.56 it is unreal. I barely even practice twice a year with my AR, but I'm getting out the shotgun at least twice a month because the first rule of gun safety is to have fun.
>Shooting waterfowl with a rifle
You have never hunted. I'm even suspecting you've never gone outside either. >Why shoot many projectiles with one shot when I can shoot 1 projectile with many shots.
I mean, it's easier to hit someone when the size of your shot is roughly the size of a fist rather than the size of a tic tac. Rifles are better against multiple opponents, sure, but if it's just one or 2 guys I'd feel more comfortable with a shotgun
Ever been shot with .50 cal rat shot at point blank? Neither have I, but I’m pretty sure it’d make a fist sized hole. Want more range? Just load it up with no.4 buckshot instead. Cmon, at that point just use a rifle.
Shotguns are superior in situations where close range damage is more important, and overpenetration is not ideal, such as home defense.
I use a Benelli M4 as my bedside companion. 7+2 rounds of buckshot/slugs/whatever the fuck else, and a 15-round shell belt in reserve are more than enough to paint my floors in intruder brains.
I respect my neighbors enough to not want to send 5.56 through their walls while gunning down morons shopping for a 5-finger discount.
Also, they are more fun than rifles, just as a general rule. Tell me you don't enjoy blowing a target into confetti with a barrage of shells at 5 yards, and I will know you aren't someone I can trust.
>yeah i'll tell yew whut when i saw them there riots on the teevee i went down to the gun sterr and bought the first turkish pieceashit shotgun they had and the cheapest tergit loads i could find, dint wanna be caught lackin when the brown hordes show up
>Are shotguns really worthwhile anymore?
Sure >Are they still useful over a good rifle?
Depends on the task >Any point to them now?
Yes. They're jack of all trade civilian guns. Home defence? Yes. Shooting birds in flight? Yes. Hunting small to large game? Sure, as long as ammo is right.
They're easy for hand loading. Enormous variety of practical slugs as well as meme loads
If I was rushing into one of these ukrainian brick houses with spetnaz holding up inside I would want to frag the rooms first and have a point man with an automatic shotgun and buckshot rounds.
Why do we have this thread every fuckin night? Yes, shotguns are good for defending yourself and your home or any other fixed location. Yes, shotguns are good for hunting various game. No, they are not good assault weapons for storming hills and shit in warfare. But that's okay because it's not their purpose. If you're dead set on using a rifle for home defense then do it. Nobody else cares.
shotguns are absolutely still useful, they're a fucking wall of small balls of lead going faster than sound. they're best used when percise aim is either hard or dangerous (no time to do so) and they're very good when used on crowds and in confined spaces

not sure, Ive never shot a gun before
Only if you get them with wood furniture
No, people are immune to shotguns now. Animals are starting to become resistant now too
this moron has never heard of a rifle
What?
I called you a moron because you're too stupid to understand the OP in the proper context

Maverick 88 is the only shotgun worth having in your arsenal
They are far superior to a rifle when it comes to shooting small to midsize flying animals.
Recommend hunting shotguns please. I have a 590A1 but I think it's kind of a meme so I've considered selling it

Still my fav and go to for any unexpected guests.
It's a tool. If you don't need it to solve something then it's not worthwhile. If you do, then it is.
What's with these banal questions on PrepHole lately?

When I was a cop back before everyone had AR’s, I always felt like I could hold my own with my basic model 14” 870. At least make things unpleasant.
Has your perspective changed since then?
I have a bunch of AR’s, but a 14” 870 is what’s next to the bed. I just love the shotgun.
During the last riots in SA, the security contractors were flying in plane loads of 00 Buck from the US bc they were shooting all theirs. I feel like you can never have enough.
yeah cuz they go *CHK* *CHK* *BOOOOOOM*

You already knew this though.

Shotguns are a meme
Waste of digits.

no, I exclusively use a PTR-91 for bird hunting and clay shooting
shotguns are good for shooting flying targets, breaching doors, and shooting funny ammo like beanbags and rock salt. buying one for self defense is pure fuddlore.
Shotguns are the multitools of the gun world. They're worthwhile and they pack a really mean punch. Great for fast target acquisition
Well said. I have ghost rings on mine, don’t have an interest in RDS maybe if I buy a semi.
yes, as the above poster has stated between 9 to 15 .32 caliber lead balls flying at around 1300 to 1500 fps could never realistically pose a threat to a home invader as humans actually have buckshot resistant skin, the more you know.
I rike my winchester (turk) 12 gauge pump, skeet shooting is great fun
Yeah. Shooting down drones with birdshot, which are being used for warfare more and more often these days.
No, modern rifle design makes shotguns completely irrelevant now. If anyone tells you otherwise it’s just cope.

You are totally shooting flying ducks with a rifle, anon.
Yeah.
>there’s a rifle for that
>For rodents of unusual size
Finally a round specifically made for shooting garden gnomes
this is antisemitic, please go back to your containment board
The bantz can't be contained. I'm not even that anon.

Shut the fuck up and post guns moron
Everything you can do with a shotgun, you can do with a .50 cal retard
waterfowl with a rifle
>You have never hunted.
You can shoot waterfowl with a rifle.
>You can shoot waterfowl with a rifle.
Techincally? Yes. Is it in any way practical/safe? Fuck no
This post worked better than it should have. Have a (you) farmer.
Yes because they are fun, nothing is more fun then blasting away with a semiautomatic shotgun extended mag

shotguns penetrating less than rifles is fuddlore. anything that will reliably kill a person will go through drywall

t. dylan from generic midwest town of 2000 people
Yeah most gun owners are retarded.
Ever try and shoot a bird in flight with a rifle?
Flexibility with ammunition.

Shotgun might be ok for clearing a house CQB. It has to be automatic tho.
If I was rushing into one of these ukrainian brick houses with spetnaz holding up inside I would want to frag the rooms first and have a point man with an automatic shotgun and buckshot rounds.
why don't they have a few of these lying around for CQB
No, you send in one of these first. Then you know what is inside the room.
shot guns are better for shooting sport.
trap and skeet is way more fun than shooting stationary 2 liter soda bottles.
Are Sneedguns really Feedwhile anymore?
Are they still Chuckwhile over a good fuck?
Any suck to them now?
Shotgun cheap
Me poor
Shit thread

Shotgun for inside the home, rifle for outside the home.

I bought an over under and have been dabbling in trap with it; excited to try sporting clays too.
