They are, but they also upset many /in/cels because it reminds them of their self-inflicted poverty and mental illness.

I don’t mind flexing on poors.

RVs are for sure PrepHole and they have distinct advantages and disadvantages. I dunno Airstream specifically buy they seem better made than most others and are priced accordingly.

You trade all the comforts they offer for more limited locations for your camp. A lot of the places I go an RV can't get to because the roads to the primitive sites are too rough, and most of them don't even have the space. Most of the sites that can handle them are in groups so you have to deal with RV culture...people who play music all day, burn lights all night, get drunk and argue, kids screaming, etc.

On the bright side they make good base camps to hike out of.

Most of my current car camping is dispersed, so I don’t have a problem just driving away from other people to get my solitude.

They are acceptable for people over 65 or people with kids under the age of 11.

I’ve been thinking of getting an airstream with a good frame and axles to remodel. Shells before covid were going for $2000. Now a good shell with a nasty interior is going for $6000. I would want to strip out everything and refit it, but that’s a huge commitment to drill out ten thousand rivets to remove every interior panel and replace the insulation. Might as well refit the plumbing and electrical while you’re that deep. It’s easily a $30000 or reject with lots of labor. You can buy some other brand of camper in good condition for $10000 but you’re buying the cheapest shittiest box on wheels. It’s not an investment it’s a towable piece of junk. Keeping my eyes out for good deals but so is every other wienersucker out there

I’ve been thing about doing this but with a school bus. Been seeing school buses and even shuttle busses on auctions plenty and it does take some elbow grease to make them a legal RV. Not everyone likes to camp in tents anymore and chances are that someday I’ll grow too old and frail to enjoy that too.
Maybe a simple pop-up would be nice but you don’t see them as much anymore.

        >Here’s an idea:stop buying things

Why make posts like this? moron. There was an influx of money into the economy and people with the freedom to work remotely. A bunch of those people bought airstreams, something which is no longer made and therefore in limited supply. Consequently they’re more expensive. It’s still viable when you consider Brad and Stacy are paying six figures and more for modernized completely refurbished airstreams. You could make one perfectly livable for less than 30, 40 you could make it nice, 60k and lots of expertise you could make it extravagant. Enjoy living in your cuckshed, larper

Buying one that big your limited to RV parks. Spend a shit ton of money on gas, packing it is like moving every time just to go park within 10 feet of some old butthole that wants to talk your ears off about what your doing wrong.

        Well maintained dirt roads.

But if you are on low or unmaintained roads you won't be able to get them in there. They don't have much clearance and are generally not built to withstand much rough terrain.

Parks and BLM and FS land all over the west is full of roads you couldn't take an RV other than an Earthroamer very far down.

Not being able to go down unmaintained dirt roads and being confined solely to RV parks are 2 very different things.

The anon I was replying to said airstreams are confined to RV parks. I said you can take them on primitive roads
So you replied that RVs can’t go everywhere. No shit. What did your comment add to this conversation exactly?

                Anonymous

It added that there are plenty of "primitive" roads they can't go down.

I get that you are upset that you got called out for being a poor reader, but it is OK. You can, with diligent study, pass an adult remedial reading course and better yourself.

The poster I replied to noted he’d seen people haul RVs down dirt roads.

I noted that not all dirt roads are the same, and some are not suitable at all to pull RVs down.

The only person who thinks of this as binary, as in they are either confined to RV parks or can go anywhere on the planet, is you. You think this way because you are a dummy and probably autistic, incapable of understanding a multivariate world.

NTA but I am currently typing this from my Outdoor RV travel trailer that is parked on my property in a small clearing on the side of a mountain in northwest Montana. I've moved it to a half dozen spots in the year and a half that I've been here and I've had to literally cut shrubs and small trees down to drive through to get to a spot several times. They can't quite go anywhere the tow vehicle can go, but they can go a shocking amount of them.

Nah, being homeless is being homeless.

I've been homeless, was employed as well, never panhandled.

Didn't even accept the stimulus check, let alone govt handouts.

Living in your car is struggling, but a lot of people struggle in life, and it's better than being homeless.

Living a converted van or RV is a luxury. It costs money, and it's something that retirees do as well, or just nomadic people who don't want to pay rent or a mortgage. They really don't care what society thinks of them, lot of people with all sorts of fancy things that are miserable as frick and hate their own lives.

Spending your whole life in a mountain of debt just to have housing and other amenities, contributing all your labor value to some rich man who just wants to have more millions from your hard work, that's "success" to some people and sure let them chase after that.

No freedom, shit ton of debt, and all the consumer goodies you could ask for.

Everything the world tells you that you should want, work for, strive for, consume, then fricking die.

      Vs.

Total freedom and complete control over your destiny.

Based and truth-posting pilled. I admire the upward mobility of entrepreneurs and hustlers but every business owning hustling friend I have works 80 hours per week and looks 10 years older than they are. I’d rather face facts and enjoy my youth before I’m crippled and the earth is even more scorched and abused. When I see Boomer Bob out on his boat from the shore of the lake we exchange a knowing look. He traded his life for safety, I traded my safety for a life

You ignorant twatwaffle. RVers are typically rich boomers who have sold everything to travel the country in their $250k trailer/truck rigs. Sure, there's a few people that live in a clapped out trailer on the side of the road, but that's because all the RV parks cater to rich boomers and don't allow ghetto ass RVs on the premises. Have a 1 year old and 3 year old. Camping is still our thing but I also like traveling and camping like 6 different sites in 10 days. Lot of shit to setup and tear down over and over..

My parents just bought one last year and they've been digging it. They both backpacked and camped plenty, but were getting older so they wanted something to stay out of the rain and take a shit in.
I checked it out and it's actually pretty comfy. They're bigger and heavier than you think though, so you gotta have a respectable vehicle to drive it anywhere that isn't flat ground.
