Are magazine sidecar holsters the biggest concealed carry gimmick ever?

You could just toss an additional mag in your pocket, or you could pay to get this bulky tumor tacked onto your pistol holster because you watched a guy do some sick fire 2/reload/fire 2 drills online. And it always seems to be pistols that hold 15 rounds or more riding in these sidecar holsters too. These might be nice for an IDPA holster, but are a complete meme carry. If people are actually buying these things, then we probably have until 2030 before they start demanding concealable USPSA belts.

The speed of the reload doesn't matter at all for concealed carry because reloading at all is entirely irrelevant. Even for cops, the last time a police officer was killed while reloading was a guy with a revolver and loose rounds in 1986. To my knowledge, there has not been one case of an American police officer with a semi auto pistol being killed while reloading. Speed reloads matter for competitions and nothing more.

Just a few months ago an armed security guard emptied his pistol into a man, then shot him with 12 gauge buckshot, shich he tanked, then needed a second 12 gauge round.
The video is up on ASP.

Ok, so what? He wasn't a concealed carrier and there was 10 seconds between the last pistol shot and the first shotgun shot, so speed didn't matter.

You are an idiot and an ass if you don't think the security guard doing that shit faster would not have been better frick you

In an age where gangs of Black folk roll around in 700+ horsepower cars waving Dracos and Glocks with switches out the window, why do you seem to think that papaw’s 5 shot .38 is still enough?
Sure, will you *probably* never need your spare mag, or even a single 15 round mag? No, chances are you wont need more than a few rounds.
But chances are, you wont need your gun at all. So why not just leave it at home?
Chances are, you’ll need a fire extinguisher many times over before you’ll need a gun. Maybe see if one of those holster companies can make you an extinguisher holster?
        You see what im saying?

We're not talking about capacity, dude. I don't care if I'm carrying 16 in the gun already, I always have a spare mag. What I'm not going to do is worry about reload speed when it's not even important for cops, and I'm certainly not going to walk around with a kydex codpiece just to carry that mag.

        >biggest concealed carry gimmick ever?
Not always. Plenty of people live in elevated crime areas. I would wear one in brazil.
But it's a gimmick for most people who post here.

This anon is right for 99% of cases. But if you can fit it under your clothes without extra printing, then ok why not. It's your money.

        Leftoids:
        >why carry a gun, statistically you'll never use it?!?!
Because it's better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it
        morons:
        >why carry a spare mag, statisticlaly you wont need it?!?

It's not the same as anti-carry arguments. Why not? Because it's a question of diminishing returns.
Even carrying a revolver can save your life, but having 15 rounds is much better. 150 rounds is not going to add enough advantage.
You have captured the majority of your advantage with a revolver, the supermajority with a glock 19, and basically all of the advantage by carrying a spare mag. If you die because your mag was in the pocket, versus on your belt, your case was effectively hopeless unless you elevate up to carrying a rifle or other unrealistic options like wearing plates 24/7.
The main issue is that the advantage is not guaranteed. A 15-round advantage over 5 rounds, that's guaranteed. A 2nd mag is a guaranteed advantage as well.
Your belt is a better place to keep a mag... depending on your clothing. And whether or not someone is grappling with you. Maybe the pocket would be easier to get to in certain circumstances. Maybe you lose your mag in a grapple because it wasn't in your pocket and it slid off the belt from friction.

So, it's not a guaranteed advantage. It's not even a guaranteed mag. A pocket essentially guarantees access at the cost of speed. A pocket is more protective than the kydex. Do people think about this stuff when they buy these products? Not really.

It's situationally acceptable but usually I use it as a moron filter.

Weee ooo were ooo idiot alert. Outdated statistics like 3 feet 3 rounds 3 seconds no longer apply, have you seen the world since soft on crime da's the fentanyl king riots and now the 3rd worlder heist gangs? The world those statistics came from no longer exists.

Nobody in this thread so far has said that carrying a spare mag is stupid. We're talking about how sidecar holsters in particular are stupid. Did you purposely misinterpret the conversation?

Do they offer any benefit for comfort due to making it closer to symmetrical?

Sidecars are moronic. Just get a separate holster for your magazine, they're so small you can put them anywhere on your belt and it's way more comfortable than increasing the holster size of your handgun.

You do you. I like having an organized pocket.

    >muh never need to reload
You can watch cops mag dump and need to reload to dump another, maybe even a third mag. That is the standard for gunfights, fighting for your life, if you expect the threat to run away then only a handful of shots is needed. Might as well carry a noise maker instead if you think that’s all you need to keep yourself safe. If it’s a kill or be killed scenario, it is not shots fire that will get you out of it, it’s shots hit.

I have one of those low profile mag pouches that attaches to your belt iwb and i just put that where the sidecar would go. Does the same shit but can be flexed around and can even go under the belt line.

Yes, because your extra mag should be on the opposite side of your firearm.

    holsters are big business
there are tons of people with drawers full of holsters
once they finally settle on one a new thing like a wing, wedge, or new clip comes out
    then new colors or decals
then side cars, belly straps, and knife sheaths, and phone holders
once all that shits gone and everyone found the meta holster
companies will do something crazy like add a magnetic charger for a light and phone
then the cycle repeats once more

that looks a bit off, but maybe it works.

mag ahead of gun's slide works because mag is smaller so it "hides" in the empty space created by the bigger gun.
also nice to have gun and extra mag in one unit.

Clint Smith has a story about the baseplate of his 1911 mag failing and being left with a single round and no reload.
Magazine springs fail, and that's an enormous failure at the wrong moment. I had a sidecar knockoff and found it uncomfortable, now I carry two holsters, one for the gun and the other for the spare mag in another position on my belt. My pockets have shit in them, but you can do what you want.

    No
    >Carry in a sidecar appendix
Most comfy holster I own, conforms better and keeps the pistol butt dug in so it doesn't print, extra magazine is just a bonus. tucks my massive wiener down and away when I'm sitting so it doesn't run down my pant leg, the non sidecars just push it over
